In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

To my shock I found my female patternless like this when I was feeding everyone this evening. I had just introduced the male the night before, they weren’t even together for a full 24 hours. The seemed fine enough when they were introduced to each other. The male was introduced to the females cage (yes very certain female, unless males started laying eggs). The female wasn’t too much smaller than the male so I’m not totally sure what went on to have such a gruesome encounter.

After I cleaned up the wound. Actually doesnt look as bad as when I found her, hopefully she wont drop her tail.

This generally occurs when there is fighting over food. Such as, if the male was hungry before the female was introduced and you fed them after introduction.
Sometimes that 1st dinner date becomes the last date! And no, no kiss at the end of the date... not even a peck!

how can you tell how fat it is from looking at its privates and tail? and the leggs... she seems fine to me... MAYBE shannon has small hands OR maybe its just a smaller gecko.... do not be so quick to judge, mr. fireengineredleo

The male was fed before he was introduced to the female, in his own box, to make sure he’d be ready for the night ahead. I have everyone set up singly, and I introduce the males to the female’s boxes instead.

Also to my knowledge the male has actually done something similar in the pass from the pervious owner/breeder, not on the tail but rather on the head and not as gruesome as the tail looks.

Shannon? :uhh: lol I was totally unaware of my name change, well other than my last name changing back to my maiden. Which you actually reminded me to change that here on fauna, thanks robin ;)

Yes guilty of small hands, so I’m told. My ring finger size is slightly bigger than 5 1/2 but smaller than 6 so my rings always slide around. Also if it makes much difference my ring finger is just sly of 2 1/2 inches long and my pinkie barely 2 inches lol

I hope we don’t start sizing up our hands now lol

This happened to one of my females.....

Last year one of my females had a huge chunk taken off the top of her tail by one male shortly after introduction. I separated them and let her heal for a few weeks assuming he was overly aggressive only to have her get an equally large chunk taken out of her back when I introduced her to a different male. I again waited for her to heal. She eventually only laid two eggs and they somehow got crushed in the hidebox during the time i was at work. I determined that this female fights off a mating attempt so aggressively that it triggered these males to fight her and tear her up. Luckily for her the male she is paired with this season is smaller than she is and probably takes more of a beating than she does. Unfortunately, she has yet to lay any eggs despite the fact that I have already had a clutch from a different female from breeding with the same male (all 3 were in the same tub for 3 weeks). I removed the gravid female hoping that by eliminating the other female, the male would be forced to breed with her only. I have another female that has already laid 2 clutches in this time span. I am starting to think this female will have to be sold to a friend or someone as a "pet quality" animal as she is short circuiting some of my breeding efforts this season. She was purchased at a reasonable price from one of my favorite breeders, but has just not panned out. It's a real shame because she had awesome tangerine color and is fine when not paired up. :crap:

Just looks like a skinny tail compaired to most breeder leos I have seen. Im sure its a perfectly heathy leo but breeding puts alot of stress on the females. Its alwasy a good idea to beef them up a little.

frank that pretty bad. sometimes females just arent ready to mate, and wont let the males get on them. did you cool your geckos down at all before attempting to breed them?

That females tail look perfect to me, thinkness wise...... Some people relate being fat to being healthy when in actuality it can be just the opposite..... As for worring about the leo loosing its tail, it most likely would have dropped already..... Some males can be overly aggressive while breeding and will bite the female, especially if the female is not receptive to the males advances....

Ouch!!!

Poor baby! That looks like it should heal up real nice if you can keep her on paper towel with some antibiotic ointment on her wound. I have had that happen with mine a few times, and it was when the male was nibbling at the female's tail for mating, and she just ran away real fast. The male tries to hang on, and the tail gets torn.

I had a blizzard male actually take the entire end of a female's tail completely off! Another male bit a female so hard in her side that her entrails came out, and she survived! The same male bit a different female on the head so bad that it tore the skin down to the skull. She recovered just fine, but needless to say he is now in a 'single gecko home' living the good life.

I had a female totally beat the crap out of three different males...it was bad....
As far as them being "fat" enough- I am tending to keep my guys a bit leaner then your usual fat Leo. Not skinny or what not, please don't misunderstand me, but I worry that these over plump Leos aren't actually healthy. I have two girls that are fat no matter what I do and tend to drag themselves around...I've really reduced their food intake but well, not even Jenny Craig can help them....they've lost a bit of "girth" but not much!

What is everyone else's opinion? Maybe I should post a new thread about weight=health?

IMO I think XXXL leos are a product of shoe box style houseing. they have little room to move around, or chase down their food. they are like those cows that stay in the pen and only the head sticks out to eat the food in front of their faces. that leos is be all means heathy but i just think pre breeding season females should be feed a little extra, and especialy while she is gravid

Vince, I so agree with you. Nobody (except me, and now you) ever talks about leos needing exercise to keep fit, which is a part of being healthy.

not to take attention away from this thread , I hope your leo gets better real soon and doesnt loose her tail. but there is a new thread about this check it out.

SORRY KIMBERLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SORRY KIMBERLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its ok robin lol I was just harassing you ;)

Vince I’ll give the female (no name yet) a few days to relax after what happened, then take a full body pic, also with a scale so you can see just how big this girl is.
I’m pretty sure she’s going to hang onto that tail now :)

you dont have to do that for me, it was just something I noticed at first glance, at least it sparked alot of conversation , and even gave someone motivation to start another thread. and checking out the other pics posted I learned a little , that some geckos are just differnt from others.
