    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

When to start posting to sell?

Hows it going everyone? Hopefully this is the correct place to ask this. Well I will be moving to a new place in August that unfortunately wont allow snakes, no questions asked. So for this reason I will have to sell my small ball python collection. Now I know its only March, but would it be a good idea to start posting them for sale now, just so I know they will be sold by the time I move? I notice a lot of classified ads wont sell for quite sometime.

I have one more question. I would like to make this clear, I am in no way looking to solely profit off of my snakes, its a bummer that I have to sell them. Now that thats said, my females are getting some size on them and are absolutely pounding rats right now. I have no doubts that one will be ready to breed next season. The longer I keep them the larger they will be by the time I sell them, which sometimes could mean more money. If you were in my shoes, would you wait it out a little to sell them or would you start posting them as soon as possible?

It really would depend on what snakes I had? If they are morph females and you have the food to feed them it couldn't hurt to hang on to them and build up some weight before you sell them but if you push it to long you may have to cut prices anyway to sell them all before you move? I may start listing them now but make sure you have all your shipping supplies ready to go! What do you have?
 
Be careful...once sales are mentioned, getting too specific is just looking for trouble. The topic itself is fine, advice is great....but, as soon as specific animals are mentioned, it's just too easy for somebody to make an offer or otherwise express interest in a purchase
 
Thanks for the input. I wont get specific with sales and what I have, but they arent normals and I do have the food to feed them. Is that ok to say?

I might start posting them possibly in April maybe May. I just dont know.

And about the shipping supplies, I'm very fortunate to have a well known breeder about 20 minutes from me willing to help out with shipping supplies and everything. Haha so basically whenever I need supplies I got em :)
 
If you've got morphs that people want and you post them for like 50 bucks less than what they tend to go for on King Snake you'd probably sell quickly. I'd give myself two months at least to sell off a whole collection if it was small in size, if I had over a dozen snakes I'd give three to four months. A local around here waited till last moment to sell his collection thinking that someone would jump on his snakes for sale and ended up with too many snakes and not enough buyers.
 
When I say 'a local around here' I meant here in MN, I saw him on CL reducing the prices on his snakes every few days.
 
I would start trying to sell them as soon as possible, that way you don't have to scramble to get rid of them at the last minute. You might be able to make a little more money back on them since you won't be so desperate to sell them like you would if you waited longer.
 
Those are some good points. I actually think I'll be posting them sooner within the next week or so, rather than later after reading these replies.

And if u have alot of males, be willing to throw them in as package deals with some females. If u wanna be strict about certain groups not being split up then start posting now. If u wanna just sell them first come serve one at a time then I would prolly start post in the first week of April If u wanna get some weight on them. 4 months should be decent time depending on what u have and what size. If they're girls up in the 700-1000g range I would post them even later, some breeders babies hatch out around May-June, so after those sell people wanna get some almost ready girls for next year. 400-700g I would wait until April like I said before. And any less than 400g start posting now. Thats just a random thought process tho and I've never done it before. But if it helps Im glad I could throw it out there for ya! :D

:iagree: You can price them however you want now, but if you wait 'til you're under the gun, you may end up giving them away (hopefully not literally, but you see where we're all going with this).
 
Once again both Danny and Matthew make great points and Im goign to have to agree with what there saying here... Scrambling to move them at the last minute will more than likely be a headache
 
I would sell anything under 300 grams now because 2011 hatchlings are about to come rolling in the masses. 400-900 should go at anytime depending on demand. Every female over a 1000 grams can pull a pretty penny after september.

I would definitely list my males first since they will be the hardest to sell. I would assume most people buy 1:3 when it comes to males:females.

If you decide to cut deals or sell below the average, definitely sell as a package deal ONLY!! If not, buyers will pick the cream of the crop and leave you with the less desirable, harder to sell morphs. Most will buy the package, reap the good deals and sell the harders ones at their pace.

If you have no reason to hold the snakes other than stetching out your final days with them, I would just let them go now. If you plan on getting them bigger before you sell them, then I would hold out rather than taking money up front. Other than poor weather, I don't think many would be happy holding off on their snake for so long without a good reason.

Wow. You all have exceeded my expectations on this question. After thinking, Im actually going to be putting them up within the next few days, if not right after I post this reply haha. I really have no reason to hold onto them at the moment, other than to get them a bit larger. But Id rather find someone to buy them period, rather than asking for a little more in a couple months, and not being able to sell them at all.
