    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I have a 48x24x12 cage with a 65 watt radiant heat panel on one side. 2 - 3x8 air vents in the back. I have a Johnson A419 thermostat. Where should I place the thermostat prob?

Thanks

I was thinking the same thing? I have alot of cages/rack systems and all of the probs are on the floor of the cage/tubs on the hot side. But what happens when the water spells or they go to the bath room? Are they water prof? I was thinking of just putting the prob a 1/2in of the floor. Just so nothing would toch the prob. What do you guys think about that? I have not done it yet, but it should still read accurate right?

Thanks, Josh

Water wont hurt the probes,their sealed units. Depending on the substrate you use would determine placement.
If you put your probe under 1-2" of cypress or aspen your temps wont be spot on because youll loose a few degrees at the surface where your animal is.The use of temp guns is well worth the money spent IMO,it makes adjustments much easier.

this may not be the right place to put this but oh well. ive got a helix therm and it keeps on saying "E3" (invalid night time temp). thing is i dont have it set to have a seperate night temp. i want it on one specific temp 24/7. it is still registering the heat changes and whatnot. regardless, it is a pain to think that in some way my therm isnt doing something properly. what should i do? anyway to reset the unit or "fix" the nightime temp?

Yeah, get a temp gun. They aint that expensive anymore, and it makes checking things much easier.
I put my probe directly taped to the floor where the flexwatt is underneath, and set my thermo, but check with a gun on surface to adjust the thermo.

Rob, Don't own any helix's YET, but i would imagine setting the night time temp would rid you of the error. Don't see why you couldn't set it at the same as the day time temp.

hmmm. i guess i shouldve put down that there isnt a clock or anything on the helix system. it is a simple set desired temp and youre done type thing. so im kind of wondering if there isnt a clock how does it know when it is night?

I believe that that helix system has an additional light sencing module that in darkness will send the thermostat into night mode. Problem is, you have to buy the additional equipment.
