• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

OK, here's another question.........

Say someone has like, oh.......95 warning points, lol. ;) Is it possible they could ever be like, a REALLY good boy for a reallllyyyy loooooonggggggggg time, and earn some of those warning points to go away? Like getting time off from your prison sentence for good behavior, so to speak.......? Just a thought.

You would think that after someone got 95 warning points they would be able to figure out the fact that perhaps their personality and this site are possibly not compatible. So two choices present themselves to them: (1) Make a very strenuous effort to really figure out how to become a socially acceptable human being on this site, or (2) SERIOUSLY start looking for a new playground.

Remember that one of the main reasons I decided to keep the warning system as a publicly viewable record (and this is an OPTION, not a requirement), was because I wanted everyone to have an audit trail of the reasons behind what myself and the moderators do here to try to keep the peace. In that way, when someone does get themselves banned, all someone has to do is to look at the history behind that event and make their own determination as to whether it was justified or not. Yeah, there will always be some disagreement, for certain. Some people would do a permanent ban immediately with merely 10 points, and others might want it to ride along to 1,000 warning points (or perhaps NEVER). And yes as well, some people would choose to treat someone differently depending on who they were rather then being unbiased about it.

This site is being run how I choose to run it. And it is being done by the seat of my pants. I have never done something like this before, and there really are no guidelines or "Idiot's Guide" workbooks on how is best to do so. Sometimes I will change my mind when things don't appear to be working as I had hoped. And I will admit that most of my problems likely stem from the fact that I find some peoples motivations and outlook on life to be completely incomprehensible. Why anyone would want to come to a public message board with no other goal then to simply be a pain in the ass to everyone else defies everything I would consider as being reasonable and sane. But it happens all of the time, so perhaps my outlook is at fault.

Beats me. My goals were pretty straight forward, I thought. Set up a website where people could discuss things close to their heart and/or wallets. Give them a place such as the BOI where things could be discussed that might make the world a better place. Seems simple enough, doesn't it? Yet some people would like nothing better then to tear it down to the ground. What is the motivation behind someone like that?

I'll tell you, if this is a cross sectional sampling of humanity in general, we are all in REALLY bad shape. No wonder the world is like it is. It is a result of US.

Roz, last I heard Wes was still hanging out in *HELL*, so it's possible to join there and get the benefit of Wes' opinions. You probably heard that already, but I didn't see it in this thread so I wanted to point it out.

With Wes' popularity, he may want to consider charging $10 a year himself for people to get on an email list for "Wes Rants", since I think he's probably the major draw into *HELL* at the moment :)

Rich,

There are people who are mentally unbalanced, people who need or simply want attention, etc, etc. Like children who are needy, even negative attention is "good" attention for such "attention whores". For some it is a game. Their personality is based on "one-upmanship" and they feel they have "one-upped" you and your site by disrupting it. For some it is simply based on an anti-social, narcissistic, or other personality disorders.

I can go on and on but I think that you get the point. If people only behaved logically and morally there would be many fewer prisons and prisoners. Human nature is not always rational and logical, much less moral. Frankly, I would rather attention whores disrupt internet forums than burn buildings or "go postal". That doesn't mean that you should tolerate it on your site, but it's a small thing in comparison to how some people act out their antisocial tendencies. That it surprises you after all this time is the only thing I find surprising in the least. You are not a naïve man. Maybe too much of an optimist at times...

I don't know where you heard this but I have not seen him there. Last I heard he is banned from the site.

I don't remember exactly, but saw several references to being able to only access Wes via *HELL*.

Of course, I may be mistaken, which is why I said "last I heard". There are a few forums here that I've decided not to take part in, *HELL* being one of them :)

Actually folks I can't believe nobody has noticed this yet. I think Webslave has noticed but has anyone else???

Dennis can't make any one of you respond to him. He's playing with some people on this site and they're falling for him hook, line and sinker.

If you DID NOT respond to his disrupting posts, do you think he would continue to post? He would get tired of being ignored and simply get with the program or go away.

Sorry JimO but you just described yourself to a T. Your continuous responses to Dennis1's posts prove that.

actually last time I spoke with wes, he did not have access to hell either...........

You want to elaborate on that Karen...or is this your typical hit and run?

Really? Since only Wes is banned and he does not seem to be accessing Hell, where is this info coming from?

Karen Hulvey said:

I'm not sure that is true. I haven't tested it myself. I opened the HELL forum to be open to people who were fined & suspended as well as outright banned, but I think there may be a block built into the code to stop someone in their tracks right at the front door.

I certainly can't see paying my programmer to change this, if that is the case..............

So then if a person who pays for access to hell gets banned and cannot access that forum, and you wont make changes necessary so that they can, you'll prorate the fee paid to access hell and return the balance to the banned member as a refund?

LOL. I doubt it.

Sure, I'll elaborate. I don't know where you're getting "typical hit and run," maybe it's because I don't have to post 50 times to get my point across or to up my post count.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WROTE.

You kept respoding to Dennis1's posts when all you had to do was ignore him. In fact you also posted that people should ignore him. You posted that over and over but you continued to respond to him.

Quote from your post above. . "For some it is a game. Their personality is based on one-upmanship and they feel like they have one upped you and your site by disrupting it." That describes you to a T! You don't own this site but you sure play at one upping.

Why didn't you simply ignore DD? Were you too busy one upping that you didn't see what he was doing? One person can't disrupte a whole site. It takes more than one to tango.

And sadly the one person who used to make sense of it all and chase away those who would seek to disrupt and corrupt these forums isnt here to do just that anymore. Thats what this threads about, Karen, where is Wes, not how fast can I jump on Jim. Try and stay on topic please.

Simple fact remains it should not have to come to that........

Members of a community, especially a paid service, should not be forced to ignore such an individual who is out to cause nothing but trouble and make no contributions whatsoever.

Rich's system works, and works well...

Unfortunately when it comes to someone like Dennis, someone who enjoys dancing around the rules and causing as much friction as possible without stepping on those "trip-wires", we're forced to deal with it until the 100 point mark. And in the meantime, he can sit back and make those "Because I can" statements and rub it in our faces. We should not have to reach the point where someone like this must be tolerated, but unfortunately we're left with little to no other options. Either ignore and watch as discussions are destroyed by this person, leave a place we've paid to access, or rough it out until the inevitable 100 mark is hit.

The system works, just seems to put members through hell until taking appropriate action.

So then everyone who responds to him is just as guilty. People who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

Who was it who set "won" the first reward? :>poke2<:

For the record I've attached a list of who responded to dennis' recent thread. I'm in good company...look it even includes you Karen.  Take a long hard look in the mirror. But take solace that ALL of the mods also had posts in that thread.

Oh so sorry. Everyone else can go off topic but when I point out the obvious it gets people's panties in a wad. . . Just remember what I said above is TRUE and it wasn't only Jim who kept feeding DD.

TOPIC AT HAND. Here's the answer all have come here to read. Wes is over at TRR.
