In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Which Thermostat?

Does anyone have or use heat controllers from ESU/Big Apple (the ones with the dials)? Do they have 3 pin outlets? Or should I go with something like the Spyder robotics or Ranco?

I noticed I didn't answer your question. From memory, I don't remember the ESU and Big Apple Herp Power Controller as having three prong plugs. I'll check when I get home tonight and if I'm wrong I'll correct my comment.

I'm assuming you don't want an opinion on the good, the bad and so so features of each.

Thanks. I also found information on themostats from one of the links in the sticky thread above.

Eric:

I use Herpstats and Rancos.

Generally I use the Herpstats (Spyder Robotics) for my racks because they are proportional and maintain a tighter temp. range than non-proportional thernostats. I use the Rancos for my space heaters as they are able to handle the higher wattage.

For the Herpstats you can either order directly from Dion at Spyder Robotics or The Bean Farm.

Dennis Thomas at DXReptiles is a great source for the Rancos and Johnson Controls units.

I have the following thermostats I checked and I have listed if they are three prong (3) or two prong (2), if you care here it is:

ESU -2
Herpstat II - 2
Big Apple - 2
Helix - 2**

Ranco -3
Johnson -3
Habitat Control 4 Way (Old, no clock and New, with clock) - 3

** Helix - I think Helix makes a three prong for and extra $20 or so.

I don't have think I have enough different kinds maybe I should buy more. They all do a good job although I'm not using the ESU or Big Apple any longer.
