    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hello everyone. I thought we might have a little fun trying to ID what I hope is a rather obscure lizard, it would stink if someone got it straight away. At least I can say that I have never seen these in captivity.

They are sexually dimorphic, males are larger, about 10-12 inches head to tail and colorful, the pics I have are of a male. Females are smaller and mostly all brown. Yes this one is eating bread, and he is fairly representative of the species, minus the fact he is missing a leg.

I cannot tell you where I took these pictures, that will give it away as they are named after the Island they live on...:rolleyes:

When did you got to islands? A cruise? Must a been a hell of trip. ;)
 
Finally found its scientific name...I think your lil guy is in the Ameiva sp.

Am I right? My brother went to school in the west indies and I saw a lot similar look guys running around. I don't know if it's the same ones.

not a bad guess but no, not an ameiva. Another hint, these guys are herbivorous.

In fact some of the pictures I have seen it would be impossible to tell them apart. But I guess it ends here, it is the Bonaire whiptail, Cnemidophorus murinus

Cruise ships do stop in Bonaire, but as an avid SCUBA diver I fly in for a week at a time. It is one of the cheaper dive destinations in the Caribbean, and in addition to these guys the place is crawling with iguanas as well. A warning for iggy lovers planning to travel there though, they are on the native diet:eek:
