Why do leos glass-dance?

i guess i should exlain the pic of the over all expearement just in case you cant tell what is goin on. the dog was put behind a double sided mirror. he had a tube in his mouth. the tube was there to monitor the drool. the tube was linked to a monitore on the other side of the mirror where pavlov and his colleegs(spellilng) were. next the YELLOW FOOD DISH (not a bell) was put infront of the dog, leaving pavlove to monitor the sailivation.

Wow Nevin...relax...no need to freak out...

I understand that your book says it was a bowl....but the article I read said a bell...and cited a book for that paragraph that Pavlov HIMSELF wrote. I've pretty much heard about Pavlov every year from dozens of teachers and books in school since like 5th grade or something (that may be a bit of an exaggeration...lol), and it's ALWAYS been a bell....I dont' recall ever hearing or seeing ANYTHING about bowls up until you posted that. You have to realize that it is not a rarity for textbooks to have things wrong. It may actually be that Pavlov had a bell on the door to the dog's kennels and he noticed that when he opened the door and the bell rang that the dogs began to salivate (associating the bell on the door with thier dinner coming), with or without food being presented. After noticing that and observing it numerous times he may have decided to do a more scientific experiment like the one in your book. Either way there was a bell involved somewhere...otherwise there would not have a citation for a paragraph about it directly to a book Pavlov wrote in that article. ...

You didn't prove your point...you proved that your book uses a bowl experiment as opposed to bells...that doesn't mean that's what happened. As opposed to your one book I've done numerous online searches and found at least 100 sites that said he used a bell or tone (not all of which I would necessarily consider trustworthy....but plenty of them were)...the psych 100 class at UIUC (my school) says he used a bell in his experiments.

my point was that i was right, my book might have been wrong, but i proved what i was saying. so IF my book is wrong thats fine. im not. and did u really read all 100 of those sites? another thing is that what i showed you was his FIRST expearment. he probably had others, but what i showed was his first.

ahhhhhh.....what are you guys talking about?

Damm!!!!.....someone posted a picture of a yellow bowl....now Im hungry as a horse!

That induced a stupid-question reflex...

Do leos salivate when they eat? Can we induce salivation by showing a waxworm?
Sorry, I am a researcher and all I do all day is ask stupid questions and do experiments to try and find the answer. I just can't help it.

By the way, check out the Nobel website on Pavlov(http://www.nobel.se/medicine/educational/pavlov/readmore.html) BUT I don't want to get into any fight.

Oh look bells!!!...Does that end your argument Nevin?...as I said...textbooks aren't error-proof. BTW...how did you prove what you were saying?...I never said that your book didn't say that it was bowls...

Anyway...Tazz...I for one definitely couldn't tell you if leos salivate when they eat...lol I would imagine they must...the mouth has to be kept moist somehow...hehe That's an interesting question. I know that a couple of my leos do get wound up when I open their cages, and then look at my fingers like they're food...lol They know that I usually give them food when I open it, so they always expect it...Definitely couldn't tell you if they salivate about it though...:D

I can say with certainty...

my leos are NO WHERE NEAR as intelligent as my birds! My leos have never escaped to find their snacks. My birds did and one even played the look out and sounded the alarm when he saw me. They pulled their snack bag off the bottom shelf and pigged out...got it all with the camera! Enjoy.
