In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Why has it taken me so long?

...to pick up one of these! I got my first pit at the Mississauga Reptile Expo today - an albino bullsnake from Andy Beleny. This guy is great, puppy tame! I've found that he's also very inquisitive as compared to pretty much all other snakes I have/have had. From what I've read, many pits seem to be quite aware of their surroundings, and almost curious. Either way, he's got a great temperment and ate 3 hours after gettng set up in his new home :)

I have a few questions too, though:
1) I've come across a large range of recommended temperatures, going from 78* - 90*! From what I understand, they thrive at lower temperatures. I'm thinking to keep his hot side at around 82*. Whaddya think?
2) What's the general growth rate on these guys? How big can I expect him to get within his first year?
3) For his adult home, I'd like to get him a 60-70 gallon flexarium (I love these cages). How soon could I move him into such a cage without stressing him out? Right now I've got him in a 30qt rubbermaid.

FINALLY, pictures:

Congrats on your first pit!!! Great choice there as that snake is beautiful!
82 is a great temp to keep him at and also, the highest I would recommend. Pits, IMO, thrive better on cooler temps than what some may have their kings and milks in.
Pits grow quick for the most part. He may double his size in a year, give or take. For hatchlings and young ones, I feed every 5-7 days one fuzzy mouse ( yours looks like he would be able to eat fuzzies ). My albino TX bull is a year old and has grown well and remains in good weight with that feeding regimen.
I am not familiar with 30 qt rubbermaids, but that may be a little big for him. Sometimes, some snakes can get spooked in cages that are huge compared to their size. Now, if he seems comfortable, then cool, but keep a watch on his feeding and stress level. I have had pits go off feed when they were in a cage that felt too big to them.
Again, congradulations on your albino bullsnake. You are right, pit are very much aware of their surroundings. Keep us posted!

Thanks for the help and comments :)
The 30qt is 24''X16''X6''. He has a lot of places to hide in there, so I'm not too worried about him getting stressed out. I've never had problems keeping little snakes in bigger cages (within reason, of course). I will, of course, downgrade if he seemed stressed.
Thanks again, and of course, more pictures will come ;)
