• Responding to email notices you receive.

In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Why is this here?

As threatened, I am trying an experiment to see if engagement can be created out of thin air where none existed before. I have been posting quite a bit on Facebook, and for what it is worth, I can see the addiction of what the feedback there offers to users. Yes, I believe everyone likes feedback for the words they may pound out on a keyboard, keypad, or phone. Likely everyone LIKES to get a LIKE to indicate that someone appreciates what they are saying. Facebook seems to excel at this. And people get drawn in tighter and tighter, continually trying to post even more to generate the drug they seek via approval from people who they list as "friends".

Will that, CAN that, happen here? Well no. But just so happens I like the forum structure more so than the linear chronological order on Facebook. I like order and structure. I like that threads can be displayed in parallel rather than serial. OK, you have a friend that said something a year ago on Facebook that you would like to find again. Good luck with that. Yeah, you CAN do it, but bring a shovel. You are going to have to do a lot of digging.

So I have two reasons for this forum I have created here. One is to see if perhaps I can lead by example by creating content worth discussions that may or may not be of any interest to anyone else. And two, just because I like this forum structure much more than I like the linear nature of Facebook. And maybe it will give me the excuse to actually try using the internet with my cell phone to see how that works out. I know people have had problems in the past using their cell phones, but honestly I can't help them as I NEVER have used my cell phone for this site nor really anything much on the internet. Truth be known, even with Facebook, I GREATLY prefer using my laptop there rather than my cell phone. After using my cell phone for a while, I can FEEL that it is hurting my eyes. So are there going to be long term negative problems with my eyes (and maybe yours) overdoing it with phone usage. Maybe. Possibly. Probably.

Oh yeah, a third reason. I am a newbie with the new platform too. Perhaps I NEED to get more familiar with it. Certainly it can't hurt, and perhaps I might be able to answer some questions someone has when they just cannot figure out how to do something.

So here it is. Don't expect much and you won't be too disappointed, please.

Facebook doesn't permit animal sales either way.... you end up getting banned over time if you're not careful.... I find it annoying dealing with fb, because if somehow you get someone looking for free stuff or dirt cheap(imagine asking to be sold a leachie for 20$) then getting mad when politely declined and going as far as spam reporting... it's honestly a hassle in some groups. People ignore the rules, get angry, report the group and so on.

Facebook has it's place. And people need to make their own choices about where they want to go and what they want to say and do there. I sometimes frequent the Market Place there, but as you mentioned no live animal sales, as far as I can tell. Honestly just seems like another Craig's List clone to me. I have sold a few things on Craig's List, but never tried Facebook's Market. Never actually bought anything off of either platform. At least on Craig's List, I see way to many dealers providing COME ON prices just to get people to make contact. That gets old real fast. And just like every other platform for selling items, I am sure both have their fair share of scammers trying to hook the unwary.

craigslist is good for local sales but the problem is you also get people wanting stuff for free so they'll flag your post. If your post gets flagged enough it gets deleted there's no real moderators. That and they don't allow live animal sales just adoptions but people use it for whatever.

You are quite correct! From what I’ve seen, fb makes it very easy to be rude and outright mean. Here, it’s pretty easy to look up info on a member, see what they have to say, gain an idea of their level of actual herp knowledge… Speaking of which, could it be possible that the $20 offer was made for a leachie nut??? Haha

Ha! If only! I had someone rudely tell me that my one aquarium is only worth 50$ even though it has a universal rocks background which is easily worth 200$+. I faced harassment for a few months. The leachie wasn't even mine, it wasn't my post it was some other members but he specified it was an animal.

I think we all have something new to learn always but those who refuse to improve can be stubborn

I hoped the leachie nut comment would be funny. The lowball on your customized tank is proof of a lack of knowledge. Frustrating as all get-out. That’s for sure.

I wished too. The lowballing is upsetting/annoying. I worked hard for it. 😂
