In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Why must things be Sugar coated?

The other side of the coin are those that post in a " sugar coated " manner to keep from making waves. Somewhere along the line they have determined that being blunt will hamper what they are trying to get across or trying to do so they tone down what they really want to say.

While that may not be bad for some , things can get lost and importance of what they are trying to say can get overshadowed with the niceness.

Well...you've probably heard the definition of diplomacy: "the art of telling someone to go to Hell in such a way that he looks forward to the journey"

When I see members calling each other out for poor husbandry or ethics, I think about the other sites I've seen where people post pics of their animals in obviously sub-optimal conditions...to put it mildly...only to get no responses or "nice snake...have you had any problems with the housing?", after which the subject is dropped. For me, that's a huge draw.

BTW, when I said that's a huge draw, I meant a huge draw to fauna.

I've noticed that in most cases, on Fauna, when someone posts pics like that, or has problems with their husbandry, members tend to let them know about it. It's usually pretty to the point without being confrontational or rude.

As far as what if the situation doesn't improve, then the PASSION flows...so to speak!

But i dont see why someone cant feel comfortable in a place where... well... people might be a bit more honest. Dosnt it make something work out better in the long run? I can see necessary tact and such, but to a degree. Some people need a couple kicks in the shins to get the idea in some respect. You know what i mean? sort of? Anyway... Tact definitely is needed.

Honesty is extremely important. I won't accept less than that from anyone. I was referring more to people that are downright degraded and ridiculed. Some examples I can think of off the top of my head are: the size and/or location of someone's home, the type of parent someone is, women being called bitches, sluts and whores, people being ridiculed because of their sexual orientation... these are just some stuff I can recall that has happened here. That's the kind of stuff I am mainly referring to.

Calling out someone on husbandry issues is good and certainly should be allowed.

Like for instance... and this helps with what im trying to say i suppose... is there are some sites out there that also do NOT approve of even a negative comment about a user. Say you had a bad transaction.... and a member of that forum was scamming people... wouldnt you want everyone to know??? But no... people delete the posts, and pretend nothing ever happened. I mean... Come on.

Well, I can unequivocally say that known scammers should not be allowed to post classifieds on forums. In fact, I'll go a step further and say that when there is proof beyond a reasonable doubt that a member is scamming people and stealing money/animals from people, that member should be banned, at least until full restitution is made.

I Personally have always Loved this site.

I don't really post here just out of habit I do the other censored site.

I apreciate the way everyone is straight up here.

The BOI is the Best ever.
I Love how someone who has been wronged can go to the site to get Justice.

I also Love how the accused can defend their reputation and rectify his mistakes.

I Love how the guilty is Lynched and Pressed into submission.

I really should post more here.

Yes you should Ash!! Fauna can always use more good boa folks...hint, hint!

Why must things be sugar coated?
Quite simply, because I like sugar....and chocolate. Especially chocolate.
mmmmmmmmmmm

I don't care what you do with YOUR chocolate, but keep that crap away from mine -
I take mine straight

As far as the sugar coating - I've visited a couple forums that were intolerant of any conflict. Sure, they were friendly places, but it got weird when there was something one didn't agree with. It was hard to even have a good discussion, most "debates" ended up with posts being deleted, and it was damn near impossible to tell somebody they were being a dumbass (even in the nicest, friendliest way possible).
While things here sometimes have a bit of bite to them, I like being able to have real conversations...and sometimes people need a bit of a kick in the ass to help them figure things out.

I've never been much for ooh-ing and ahhh-ing over everybody's new snake. If it's something that gets my attention, sure; but if its something super common, or I just have no interest, I'm not going to fake it.

I don't think it's the "intolerant of any conflict" as you view it from your perception. In my opinion, sometimes the problem seems to be that some of us don't understand the difference between an opinion and fact and more forums are beginning to realize that it's not worth turning everyone/majority of members off because a few of the more "opinated" do not know how to have a proper discussion. Now if someone could have a good heated discussion without the name calling, that would be excellent, no? But from my experience..once the first "name" gets called..the discussion can go downhill and it's no longer a "heated-debate" it is transformed into the forum monster called "name-calling fest" that a lot of forums hate (that monster appears without warning).

I love a good "heated-debate" myself..as long as the debaters stick to the topic at hand and don't start throwing everything and the kitchen sink into the debate just to prove the other person wrong.

Interesting, since I haven't referenced any sites or given any real examples. Some places just don't (or didn't, since one of the sites I am speaking of no longer exists) like conflict.

That is true...especially when it is one's own opinion that is being contradicted (whether it be by somebody else's opinion, or actual fact). Some places hold their established members, particularly their moderators, in such high esteem that any interloper that dares to disagree will be attacked...if the post is not outright deleted. There doesn't have to be any name calling or nastiness involved - it could be as simple as posting conflicting evidence, with citation or reference.

I was speaking generally from my own experience with some of the more "restricted" forums; perhaps I worded it incorrectly *wouldn't be the first time* :ack2:
