In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Rich,
You mentioned earlier a ding for abuse of this system, and others have expressed that it will become a new feuding ground, with tit-for-tat dinging. You also mentioned that you don't have the time or desire to police such, which is understandable. As part of the continuing self-policing, is one expected to report a possible abuse (similar to what we see in Karma, where some of us are dinged negatively by the same folks over and over regardless) in the thread where they think it occurred, so as to solicit peer review? Or might there be a forum made just for the posting of abuse complaints, so as to receive peer review ? Might better illuminate fraud in the system. Same rules would apply there as well, causing folks to still think twice lest they continue fueling a feud.

P.S......Rich....I took my warning points Like a man......
Keith,
Can we really make the assumption that anyone new here has nothing of value to offer to the site?

It's true, that there are people here hiding behind the veil of anonymity, but, they are the minority and of no real consequence. This new system requires the power of the masses to have any real effect. Anyone trying to manipulate the system to their advantage will likely be exposed.

In my opinion, the best way to have a true democracy here is with everyone having an equal vote (regardless of their financial commitment).

 Try polishing off the dust on that crystal ball.... It's not working too well.

I have mentioned SEVERAL times I am waiting for a response from my programmer about some issues. Quite frankly, I have not heard back from him for several days now. This is rather unusual, but that is just the way it is. In the meantime, I don't have a problem addressing questions and concers here. Even though it immediately went off topic....

Nope, not dusty at all. I simply think that you should have saved your initial post for the day it was implemented. No beating around the bush, no false assumptions that our input was really desired.

Again, I honestly don't care what happens one way or another. I don't care if everyone is issued 10x the power that I get. It simply does not matter and for those who believes that it does matter, well.....they need to re-evaluate their priorities.

Which all leads me back to my initial thought of you enjoying, at least to a certain extent, the disruptions things like this cause. Even negative attention is better than none at all for some. That's nothing negative against you. But, you said it yourself, you think it will be fun. So.......do it.

What exactly is it about this statement that you are having trouble understanding?

The same thing that you did not understand in my previous post:

Rich, don't take my posts as anything negative towards you. It's not. I am simply saying that in the future, if you are determined to implement something then just do it. There's no need to seek the input of the marionettes on an item that you're going to do anyways. It creates nothing but drama, of which Fauna does not need anymore, and as such, I think you tend to enjoy, at least to a certain extent.

Next time, just do it and be done. That's all.

Bob,
I think you're off base on this one. If you refer back to the original post on this thread, I think it was pretty apparent that Rich had decided to do this. He was simply seeking input regarding the necessary rules and their point values.

I just had an interesting idea. The people who give out dings (the dingbats) will get their power from their membership level.

So far, the system is only set up for negative reinforcements.

What if, somehow, dispensations could be sold (like the Catholic church used to do).

These could either be tied to GOOD deeds; or, like the church, simply a matter of purchase price, buying off your sins, so to speak......

Gee, what an ORIGINAL idea.

Time to let the fiasco begin.

I just wish that Rich would stop being such a sadist and just implement his ideas. I don't believe he really wants our thoughts/concerns on this nor do I believe that he necessarily needs to. Instead of throwing things out there to get the membership riled just put it in force and move on. Either that, or leave things alone and stay behind the scenes. I am starting to believe he really likes the attention, whether negative or not!

Bob, I tried to give you Karma, but I keep getting this message:
You must spread some karma around before giving it to Griz again.

Mike, you see it as seeking input. I see it as an effort in futility. It's going to stir the pot no matter what, probably won't result in anything changing, so why seek the input? It's almost laughable at times the responses that people make even IF the original post was as innocent as some perceive. Some people have too much time on their hands and WANT to get their knickers in a bunch.

Well let me explain it to you.......... This IS a done deal. I asked for some input about the warning points. Nothing more, although I knew few would be able to hold that narrow of a focus. :)

I THOUGHT this would be implemented with a day or so of my posting this thread, as there were only a couple of minor points I needed to discuss with my programmer. However, he has not gotten back to me for several days now, which is the cause of the delay.

Now, is there any way I can say this more clearly?

As for my enjoying the drama, not exactly, but do I love the comedy. And lately I do enjoy the antics of some people here who have gotten their pubic hairs all snagged and painful when they got that wad in their panties........ Listen up people! The reason that snag is in your panties is because you are so afraid of change of any sort that you won't even CHANGE your panties! Honestly, change is good for you. Try it sometime.......

Heck I may even change the color scheme here some day....... :D Boy, won't THAT tick some people off!!

Well now that you mention it...
Oh the drama of what color scheme!

Anyone will sign up here for free. Some may even pay the $25 Contributor membership to help out. Very few will pay the higher levels, and those that do, obviously are doing so because they want to make a special effort to help out here. Or am I wrong about this view?

Speaking for myself, I don't fully agree with that. I'm a member at LOTS of forums, even a Mod at one, but I only contribute to 2 forums, and it's because I like what they stand for. If I didn't, I would never have contributed a dime. But I contributed at the level I was ABLE to contribute at. Nothing to do with wanting to make more, or less of an effort at all. I am sure others contributed what they were able to also, even if not at endowment level.
