• Responding to email notices you receive.

In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

wondering about the paypal 3%

you end up paying the $80 fee.
If a refund is issued on the original transaction, it's for the full amount, and there is no surcharge.

Only if the refund is initiated as an entirely new transaction, the fee applies.

In this case he issued a refund of the full amount and there were no fees to either of us.

Had he simply sent me a payment then we both would have paid a fee.

And Jason too...

Thanks. This is good to know because the two times that I was "refunded" money it was less the 3%.

A question related to this topic. Is there any advantage of having a separate e-mail account for receiving PayPal payments? Why do several sellers are set-up that way?

Regards.

In some cases, the PayPal accounts were probably set up prior to the "business". I have had a pay pal acct for many years, but have just become a business. I also know of some that have more than one acct...cash deals to the personal acct, credit to the business (I believe that there isno 3% fee on received funds for a personal acct)

interesting that he wants $1000 minus shipping costs...must be his unique way of making up for trying to rip someone off for the 3%, lol

i'm getting in on this a little late, but i say charge what you want to charge. paypal can't tell me what to do nor can anyone else. my business dealings are my business and my customer's.
i usually figure the paypal 3% into my shipping/handling costs. why should i have to pay the 3% when the buyer could just send me a M/O at no charge to me?

That has got to be the most uneducated and ignorant response I have ever seen. It is ILLEGAL, period. State as well as FEDERAL law prohibits such action.

Adding such cost into your shipping and handling fees or cost of the animal is fine, adding it after-the-fact is illegal, and cannot be argued. I do however enjoy watching those who try too........ lol

Actually they can "tell you what to do". You agreed to PayPal's terms of service when you opened your account and that is part of it. If you do not like their terms then do not accept it as a payment form. That is your choice.

As for sending a money order, yes that is an option. You will then wait for your money and maybe the person has buyer's remorse and never sends it. So the 3% is the fee for getting paid instantly.

You are now on my "never buy from" list, and I suspect many others as well.

Oh yes..... PayPal as well as your State and Federal Government CAN, and they WILL.

Deal with it.

It is the cost of accepting such methods of payments...... The cost of doing business. A money order is not free either, it may be cheaper than PayPal or a credit card payment but alas you get what you pay for......

Pretty obvious.

good thing i don't sell reptiles then, wouldn't want to get blacklisted by faunaclassifieds for god's sake...

i don't know why you guys get so bent out of shape on this, or half the stuff some people here do... THAT gets annoying sir.

it's also annoying how your peers judge you and give you negative and postive 'reputation' points on this site... you guys disagree and so give me 'negative points'... give me some more, yay!

what is annoying the the lack of common sense and total disregard by some people for legal issues such as this, it is ignored and followed by excuses.

being "blacklisted" as you state should not be a concern by such people, losing their respective paypal or merchat processing accounts and being prosecuted should be. :raspberry

Why would you get blacklisted? All you have to do is not charge the fee, simple. If you need to recoup the money add it into the price of the animal, not hard.

Perhaps it is related to having principles. something which you evidently lack if you would knowingly violate a contract into which you have entered (as in PayPal's TOS).

you don't know me, so don't pretend like you do. all i'm saying is that i'm entitled to my own opinions. this is a public forum so i gave my opinion. i don't need to be judged by adults that act like some adolescent, know-it-all fools.

Not much room for opinions in a cut and dry discussion of federal law. The law is what it is, if you choose to break it be prepared to go to jail, pay fines, or loose your merchant accounts.
