In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hello all,
I have some wood perches i wanted to use for snake cages. They are Azalea hardwood -bleached and scrubbed clean with no rough areas. Is this wood bad to use for snakes? I know birds will get sick from eating the wood, but does anyone know if it would be safe to use as a snake toy? The only things i have heard of as dangerous are those woods that produce fumes. I have other uses for the perches if anyone thinks I should use something else. I will be asking my herp vet for advicer also, but wanted to see if anyone here knew anything about it.

I am interested in making my own perches, so if you have any woods that ARE safe that you like, let me know. I am thinking of some redwood driftwood because it is so long lasting, plus i live on the coast, there is lots of it around.
thanks!

Unless there's something I am unaware of concerning azalea, you should have no problems with it, especially with a snake which will only be crawling over it. Prepared the way you have it it sounds just fine.

I like grapewood myself, but I've used several different types of hardwoods.
Grapewood looks neat and once it is dried well it's long lasting. It will bleed for some time after being cut, so you have to let it cure a bit or it will make a mess.
It grows in the trees here, and can over power sections of the forest if left unchecked. I like to cut the vines when they're 2-3 inches thick.
Driftwood is nice looking too. Here, I get freshwater driftwood at times from the river.
