There is a local petstore by my work that specializes in reptiles. I was there today getting some feeders and a guy walks in with his girlfriend and their baby. He is looking around, asking about some of the snakes.
He wants a "big one".
The employee asked why and he thought it would be cool to have a 10 foot snake. When asked what experience he had, he replied "none, I've never had a snake".
The employee proceeded to refuse to sell any snakes with the exception of a garter, a corn, or a kingsnake. They would not sell him ANY of the larger constrictors (not even the large $600 albino burm which he was ready to put on the CC).
Needless to say he left empty handed and will probably go somewhere else and get a burm but I was impressed that they let him walk without making a sale.
After they left, I was talking to the employee and we both agreed that no one should sell large constrictors to inexperienced people who have no idea what they are getting into.
Man, I wish more petstores were this way.
