Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Wow, reading all these "Rip-off", and "Fraud"...

I've posted "wanted" ads for a tame lizard (tegu, iguana, monitor, etc.), and i've had a couple people contact me, but after reading some of the stuff that goes on I really don't know if it's the best thing to do. I've heard good things about Neil (in tampa), and --something International, Prehistoric pets, and a couple others, but I haven't really found anything I like with these people (Your animals are wonderful, but i'm picky, and looking for something specifically), and when I do find something that interests me, I usually don't have the money at the time, and never see the post that I was interested in again.

Just curious if anyone could RECOMMEND breeders for someone who specifically breeds these lizards (Tegu's, Monitor's, or Iguana's)?

Thank you!

First off you need to post your full name otherwise your post will be deleted.  Second, there are many reputable and reliable dealers out there, and the ones that are dishonest and commit these terrible acts are the few and not the majority.

Your going to hear about the scammers and rip off artists more than your going to hear about the good dealings (just human nature to talk about the bad things and not the good things). There are a lot of individuals and companies that finish many deals daily with no issue. Just not a lot of interest in "I sent them money, they sent me a reptile, good job"

Is this a troll, sure sounds like one. Rings familiar bells and whistles but I'll bite anyhow.

Once you find someone you tare thinking of as a prospective seller, run his/her name through the BOI on this site with a good guy / bad guy type inquiry. That way you will get some feedback if the person was ever heard of by people using this site. Why take chances.

As for the names you mentioned in your post, this General Business Discussions forum is not the place to give feedback about them.

Wow, how rude. Pre-judging someone new. How typical.

I'm NOT posting my full name on a board. I'm young, and god knows what's lurking on this board.

I'll just wait for this post to get deleted.

Thank you to those who offered helpful advice.  <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Don't take what Glenn or anyone else says personal.  We here on the BOI (myself included) feel very strongly an compassionately towards protecting others and the animals from wrong doings.  He and I have had many words back and forth but Glenn is still one of the good guys around here.

He gave you some very sound advice;</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Once you find someone you tare thinking of as a prospective seller, run his/her name through the BOI on this site with a good guy / bad guy type inquiry. However Rob is wrong in one instance, full names are only required for posting on the BIO portion of this web link.  But it is a common courtesy to place a name to a post. It does help weed out the TROLLS that have been eluded to in this thread.  To many times before has a thread just like this one and just as anonymous been found out to be just a TROLL looking to stir a turd.

Welcomed to the Fauna Classifieds.

Has this been a rough couple of weeks for the BOI or what?<img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>
It's been a little crazy on there and pretty negative.  I can understand it turning people off, but it is a great protection when buying over the internet.
When you do find what you want, you do a search for other people with experiences with this person.
And yes, "bad" gets posted a lot more than "good"--or at least gets more attention.

As for finding a "tame" iguana, monitor, or tegu--it's not easy through a dealer--most already "tame" lizards of those species are spoiled pets--they tend not be "tame" on their own.
Maybe try getting a baby ackie monitor, or if you want something big, try a baby ARGENTINE tegu, and raise them up to know you.  Those would be your best bets.  Or if you have a particular species in mind, just get it young and expect to have to work with it a lot to tame it down.
There are lots of good ackie breeders, and two very well know argentine tegu breeders that would work for you if you are interested.

good luck

But... Hey guys!  This isnt the BOI!  Its the GENERAL BUSINESS DISCUSSIONS FORUM.  Sorry to yell, maybe I am lost...

Nope - It still says General Business Discussions at the top.

That's actually what i'm leaning more towards, a Argentine tegu, not the columbian (I hear the Argentines have better temperments.) What two breeders could you refer me to?

By the way, I wasn't posting a "thread" about a specific person, I was merely trying to see if anyone had any knowledge of good breeders in the species i'm interested in. I added the extra "Wow, reading all these "Rip-off", and "Fraud"... " stuff so that my message would be clearly understandable. Nobody wants to get ripped off, obviously, so I guess it's pretty much hit and miss?

Hopefully i'll run across some good luck.

Thanks for the input.  <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

By the way--Lovely pic of the tegu!

Kitten.... (if that IS your real name?) lmao.... I think you're going about this the wrong way.... just because someone bred the baby in question, doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be tame??? As an example.... 3 years ago, two guys came in to my store with three (1.2) of the most immaciated, dehydrated, skin-sored, juvenile Iguanas you'll ever want to see! They were mean and nasty, they would swat their tails at anything that came near them.... one of the females looked like it wouldn't make it through the night.... luckily, I have a very large screen enclosure in the store that happened to be empty at the time.... I put them all in there and slowly started to get them back to health.... if you came in and saw them today.... you'd be amazed! They're about 5' long....they're fat, healthy and VERY TAME!! I names them.... "Sydney and his Ho's!! lol.... I can hold each one of them with no problems whatsoever! Except for the fact that they weigh about 10 pounds each!
The point of this, is that you can buy ANY baby of whatever species you want.... even if it's killer-mean and nasty.... ALL snakes and lizards are like WOMEN!!! The more you hold them, the more you interact with them, the NICER they are!! (Go ahead, Kim.... tell me I'm wrong! I dare you!! lmao).... get what you want, don't worry about it being tame and friendly the day you get it.... after a while, when the animal sees that it can't hurt you, and you won't hurt it.... your problems are over! Understand??? And.... if you don't know the animal.... KNOW THE DEALER!!
....Neil

Agressive Kitten,

I did not prejudge you, nor was I rude. I based my observation upon long experience with these boards and with trolls that have been posted. I said what many others probably thought.  But if you notice it was phrased partially as a question. Then after that, just in the event that my observations were incorrect (imagine that I am so rude to be rude to even myself by believing I can be wrong) I gave you some darned good advice about checking the BOI.

You say you will not post your name because you are too young, that sounds legitimate, but that may still be breaking the rules as someone else pointed out although I think names are only required on the BOI. You may want to check with the web slave on that issue.

Now as for it sounding like a troll, I still feel it sounded as if it may have been even if it was not. I have my reasons for saying so, and I think  others may understand those reasons, and may NOW understand even more so. Sorry if that offends you, it was not meant to do that whether or not it was a troll.

Tim,

Thanks for the kind words. I think you hit the nail on the head about how I meant it.

Best regards,
Glenn

I think Neil has some argentine tegus for sale???
It's true, the more you hold them the tamer they are as long as you dont stress them out while you hold them.  You can also throw some dirty clothes in the cage where they sleep to get them comfortable to your scent.
The two big breeders of argentines are Bert Langwerf (sp?)and the St. Pierre's.  They supply most of the dealers as well--Neil probably has some from them would be my guess.  And yes, argentine over columbian for tameness.  My guys are all babies, except my almost 5 foot (i'm scared to weigh him) red male is a bit food aggresive and anything that moves might be food, lol!!!  My chacoans are dolls (that was my female chacoan when she was only a year old--St. Pierre stock).

Oh here's the deal...

My name is NOT Kitten, never did I say it WAS. in fact, if you look at my sig, it's ERYN.

By TAME I don't mean... when you call it, it comes, and licks you in the face, and nuzzles with you...Or whatever you seem to think. By tame, I mean MANAGABLE. I have seen some pretty nasty reptiles, and that's NOT what I want. If I can get something that I can at least pick out of the cage without having my arm torn off, I will be more than happy with it (Because i'm well aware that you DO have to work with these animals in order to get them as friendly as you desire). On the other hand, I did not ask for advice on what to get, I simply stated that reading a lot of the posts in BOI made me think twice about purchasing online.

I'm sure nobody likes to be labeled troll, at this point, it's all a matter of getting to know one another, and seeing where it goes. I like it here, and I plan on stay, and conversating with other herp people.

Once again, thanks for the advice; It was appreciated.  <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Forgive the crudity of this response but... So what?

Your initial post is  extremely similar to a few others that have been made, some by specific and identifiable trolls, others by mystery trolls, none ending well or created in innocence. It really isn't an appropriate discussion for this forum, which again compounds that "feeling" of trollness...

Reacting like a pissy little child will not make it better... And Glenn is perhaps the least offensive person who posts here with any regularity. If you want to get positive responses... Carry yourself in a manner than encourages helpful, positive interaction, rather than like an individual with an angry mamba wearing an SCUBA tank lodged in their rectum.

I will share with you a lesson that I have leard, Shop around, do a name search on the B.O.I., ask questions and get whatever warrenties in writing. If you do your homework you shpuld be just fine. As a whole the reptile industy is a great place and has a good group of people in it that will be more then willing to lend a helping hand. Once you do find a wholeseller that you are happy with stick with them. I hope that this helps.

It’s CALLED A SIGNATURE. I wasn’t getting HUFFY over being called my “user name” I was getting “huffy” because of the statement after “kitten” --- Read it, and see what I’m talking about. It says something like “Kitten, if that’s even your real name! Lmao”—No, it’s not my real name. That is the ONLY person I directed that statement at, I do not care if people call me my handle name, I was simply stating that it WAS NOT my real name.
