    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Not pointed at you, OP, but since we're on the subject of messed up hatchlings.. Call me mean, heartless, whatever. Malformed babies don't leave here, and they don't get introduced into the gene pool either. Even as pets farmed out to friends, you run the risk of it ending up in the hands of someone with less scruples who will jump at the chance to breed it. We are responsible for what we create. Good or bad. The gene pool isn't so shallow that we need to hang onto them, and as many balls as most of us produce, we'd eventually run out of room to house the misfits. *shrug* I'd rather put my resources toward something I'm proud to put my name and reputation on. (I'm not even going to pretend I know when a snake is living a quality life with deformities, either. I'd rather take zero chance that they will suffer due to my own selfishness.) Selling stuff that's missing eyes, is kinked, or what have you is going to lose you some respect in the breeder world in the long run. Or at least, with the serious breeders anyways. Others can believe/do as they wish, but for me the above is gospel.

But, congrats on the other one you hatched. Let's see the little booger. :yesnod:
 
I would never sell or even give away any defective animal... And I understand there will be way to many deformed ones to keep them all. I will post pics of the remaining two once I get home.

Its still a heck of a way to start out by producing even one awesome looking lav for your first clutch!! I don't think anyone can argue with that. Shadera I agree to an extent. I don't think deformities should ever leave the breeder but i do think there are certain cases where a deformed snake could live a perfectly awesome life and if the breeder can deal with making room for it then it could be a pet only. I don't think they should leave the breeder for any reason though. Even your best friend if he knew he had a snake he could sell for say $1000 because without a deformity its worth $3000 plus, will probably jump at the opportunity to breed or sell it. I'm just saying when it comes to money people know no boundaries so its better to keep them out of the gene pool and out of anyone else's collection.
 
That is very sad, and every breeders nightmare. I'm sorry that had to happen to you Curtis. RIP little one. At least the other two are healthy!

Kinks, especially severe kinks, in a female could make things complicated if not lethal for her if she became gravid. I wouldn't want to risk it.

You can't ever be certain that a deformity is for sure not genetic. There's no way to tell that so why risk keeping a bad gene going. Not to mention who is going to take your seriously if you are selling animals that came from a kinked parent? I would NEVER buy a snake that I knew had kinked lineage I don't care how cheap it is.

This is my 5th yr breeding. Approximately 50+ babies a yr. I have never had a kink until this season. I've got at least 3 kinks this yr. The parents are proven breeders of previous seasons with no kinks. Same incubator, but I did change the heat pads.
 
I'm just saying I would personally avoid anyone who breeds a snake with kinks into the rest of their breeding stock. I wasn't saying I would avoid you, unless your telling me that you breed kinked snakes. Congrats on such a productive operation I should have comparable statistics next year but with so many babies there's no reason to breed kinked snakes, it's called selective breeding for a reason! :shrug01:
