Well, I was scanning the reptibid Ball Python auctions to see what was being passed of as something it wasn't when I came across several auctions for 50% Het Pieds and Albinos. The sellers name caught my attention because I had answered some questions on the fauna BP forum that he had posted.

He seemed like a nice guy, just getting into BP's had a lot of questions regarding Hets and WC/CH.

I thought it was odd that he would have 50% Hets available already, considering he had only just purchased a het male, according to a post from June 5, 2005 that he was going to breed with his normal females next season. That combined with his earlier post about captive hatched babies that he recently purchased threw up a red flag.

I considered that maybe he had bought a large lot of 50% hets and was selling off extras, so I gave him the benefit of the doubt and posted in the Q&A section of one of his auctions, the transcript follows:

------------------------------------------------------------
Item number: 1121211794
Titled: 50% ph albino 2005 Female!!!NO RESERVE!!!
Question about this item from (buyer): Ampets
Post on: Tue Jun 28, 08:15 PM
Are you the breeder? Is the male a proven albino producer? Is shipping included in the buy it now option? Or what would shipping be to Clearwater, FL 33755? Also, could you combine the shipping if I buy more than 1 of your snakes? Thanks, Amanda

FIRST MESSAGE------- I am the breeder. The 100% het male is not a proven albino producer, I am in the works with pied, albino, axanthic projects. The male came from a reliable breeder who is a good friend of mine.He has made me paperwork for him to.
I can combine shipping on multiple purchases.
Buy it now does not include shipping.

Hmmm, that is interesting. You state that you bred them, yet here in this post dated June 5, 2005 you state:

" Are hets worth it?
Are hets worth the time and effort. Im trying to get into morphs slowly and trying the most inexpensive way. I purchased one 100% het male that i will breed to two females next season. then i will take all of the hatchling females and breed them back to the male and mabey even buy another male het so i can breed every female hatchling. Are my odds good if i do this?"

That combined with the fact that you just won an auction for 11 captive hatched babies and this post dated 6/18/05 where you bought 10 captive hatched babies:

"I purchased 5.5 captive hatched.I fed 5 of them live small mice and they ate them. The other 5 will not eat.what do i do?any tricks???
Also,The ones that have eaten are being switched to f/t rat pups. Should i continure feeding mice untill there feeding habits increase or should i start f/t rat pups now??? One of the 5 ate a rat pup but i had to leave it in over night."

So put 2+2 together; you state you are planning on breeding hets, starting next season, you buy a bunch of CH babies, then you start posting ads for 50% Hets, which are easy to distance yourself from if someone complains in the future that they didn't hit on the morphs, you can say well they are only 50% Hets.

Now I'm not going to call you a liar or a fraud, but you can see where this looks a bit suspicious. Care to clear up these discrepancies?

Thanks
(His answer is missing because for some reason the previous Q&A disappeared.
In his answer he went on about he bred hets this year plus his “friend” let him breed his normal females to his friends 100% Hets. He then went on to state that the captive hatch were all being held back for breeding to the Pastel he was going to get next year.)

Here was my response:

That explanation would sound plausible; except for these posts on June 6, 2005:

"I built plywood breeding racks for all of my balls. do i really need heat tape? the room they are in gets to about high 90's during the day and high 70's at night. is this good enough if i wannna breed them?"

"ok,thats understandable. But how would i obtain a 60 degree night time drop during the cooling period? here in louisiana during october-feb. the temperature fluctuates dramatically.some nights it could be high 20's some can be 80's we never have a solid winter."

Response from another breeder:
"Its the cooling period, not the RI period....

We use a drop of about 78-80 during the breeding months and it seems to be more than enough."

Your response:

"thats what i ment to say. Would it make a huge difference if i dont obtain those temperatures? just turning off the heat sorce should pretty much do it for breeding huh?"

Now to me you don't sound like someone who has bred ball pythons last year. That coupled with posts from March 2005 where you were selling colubrids because you were "getting into small pythons" makes me wonder how you bred them last fall, without being sure how or at what temp you needed to cool them down down. And in your own words, 3 weeks ago,you stated that you had just got 1 het to breed to normals next season.

Something really doesn't add up here...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, I never got an answer because Lo and Behold right after I posted that the auction which had 13 + days to go was suddenly closed.

I would suggest anyone planning on buying his "50% Hets" not pay more than the price of a 2005 CH normal.

Good catch!! :hehe:
I was going to post in his Q & A as well to do a little digginh.

Thanks for the heads-up Sam. Probably rather than caution one should run the other way! :)

I suppose this is the same xoticreptiles22 that posts on this site. I just wanted to relay my experience with the guy. If so, I had contacted him(via email) a while back about some mouse/rat enclosures he was selling online. Since he was also from Louisiana, I suggested that I pick them up personally to save on the shipping. He said no pickup because of past experinces. That kinda threw me off of the whole deal so no purchase was made. I can not make judgement on that alone but I can only relay my experince. I am always looking to do business in Louisiana, so I am always looking for the good guys and the bad guys around here.

Personally I won't but possible hets for a higher price than regulars unless I really trust the breeder- like Chris for example :)

:>off_to<: Here's to hoping my 66% GS male proves out!

Now we know why he really asked this question.

My het came from crestedgeckos.com. he is a 100% het. Another question about paperwork!!!! If your het really doesnt prove out in the number of years offered on the paper, can you really do somehting about it. Or is it just something to make people feel safe?

This combined with his other questions/comments makes it appear he is trying to cut every little corner he can.

I wouldn't touch one of his snakes with a 10 foot pole. :bolt01:

That is what you get when you try to post too more than one thread at a time. LOL

I agree with Mike.
Someone, who does not even want to supply his animals with heat, I would not waste my time with.

This guy is so obviously selling W.C. from several of the threads he started.

My response!!!!

hello there!,

I am first gonna start by saying that i understand completely about your reason for doing this. All of those post and auction historys CAN add together for one juicy fraud!!

All im trying to say is that its not true.

A friend of mine owns a 100% het pied male and a 100% het albino male that he offered as a free stud service to 4 of my adult females.

When asked who bred them,I said myself because I took care of the gravid females, and I incubated the eggs.

The reason i deleted the auction listing was because i was scared it was going to ruin my reputation. When it really only made things worse, and im very sorry for doing so.

The post on fauna about breeding was true,I really just needed help with those subjects.

The het albino male DID come from crestedgeckos.com and I also purchased a 2004 het from him,Although my het was not the father.

The reason i am e-mailing you is to hopefully get rid of this mess.I would try and defend myself to everyone on the fauna bio but i am not a paid member so i am not allowed to.

The paperwork was going to be made by myself guaranteeing the background of these animals. I can also give you the e-mail to my friend bobby for pictures of the males and verification that mine are 50% ph!

I have been screwed out of purchases before and i would never do such a thing as to what i am being accused of.

The ch 5.16 -I sold the males to petland(petstore) and the females are still in my care for pastel breeding projects in a few years.

The reason i asked the question,(what can people do if hets dont prove out in the number of years was because i was looking to purchase a 100% het albino at the time and wanted to know the good of paperwork. The paperwork i was going to sell with my 50% hets was feed/she/ records and documentation guaranteeing there background. That they were produced from het to normal breeding.

PLEASE!!!!!!!_______If you need anymore information, please let me know!
I dont want my repuation to be ruined beacause of this mess.

hey

That was the e-mail i sent to gecko_den. It is also directed to anyone else in this forum.
One more thing-With the mouse breeding cages.I dont allow pickup because Some animals have been stolen from my facility before,And i dont allow meeting because i drove for 1 hour one time only to never hear from the buyer again.
Hope this helps! Thanks

Steven,

As David said you need to post your first and last name to post in here. If you want to clear things up it might be important to have Bobby’s complete information too.

You also say that you sold your males to Petland. I’m not sure in your town but over here unless you have a special license you can’t sell to large stores. They could get in trouble. Do you care to give the location and phone number of the store?

When asked who bred them,I said myself because I took care of the gravid females, and I incubated the eggs.

What temperature did you use for incubation and how many days did it take for the babies to hatch at that temperature?

Thanks.

Steven,

You were here reading for a while but left before answering the questions that were posed:

1. Bobby’s full name and contact info.
2. Your last name.
3. Your local Petland telephone number where you sold the males.
4. Don’t forget also the temperatures you used for incubation (you had a thermometer, right?), and how many days did it take for you to hatch them at that temperature.

And, while we are at it, here is what you say in your other auction:

!50%PH het pied male!

This male was aquired from a close friend of mine. He bred a 100% het pied to a few normal females and i purchased a total of 10 hets from him in attempts to prove some out but i have decided to only keep 3 of the albino hets. This male has no reserve and will come with paperwork from MYSELF. He is a good friend of mine and i have seen his collection, so i will guarantee with my own paperwork that this male was produced by breeding a 100% het pied male to a normal female. This male has eaten twice on live mice and will not be sold untill he has eaten five times. He will come with feed and shed records that I have written down. The clutch of het pieds that he came from constisted of 3.2 hatchlings so theres no doubt in my mind that he is a het.He looked a little different from the others. Thats why i picked him.
NO RESERVE!!! HAVE FUN!!!

The bolding is mine. He came from a 3.2 clutch so you have no doubts he is heterozygous? How does that work? Is it a 50% or heterozygous? Those are two different things. What was so different about him?

You said right here that we could ask questions, so here they are.

Thanks.
