In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I was wondering if anyone else has delt with xtremereptiles? I have done a lot of business with them, and the animal has always been 100% healthy and always took right off on eating. Not only do they have very healthy animals, but they're nice guys, too.

Yes I have dealt with them in the past, and they are good people to deal with.

I think there are a few threads on here about them. And as I recall... Everyone that has purchased from them has been happy with their purchase.

What I'd like to know

is why they refuse to send you pictures of the animals they list? Myself I have a hard time sending someone a couple hundered bucks or more for something that may not be what I'm looking for. Was interested in some of their animals but without photos I'm not sending them any money.

I only know experiance from Extreme as far as wholesale through my work. Everytime i open the box i know something is dead because of the rancid smell coming from the box.

Maybe their retail is better quality. Who knows.

We started using them in December and have been happy with the quality of animals we've received. The shipping/packaging has always been up to par. I am assuming they do more wholesale, and as such photos are limited. There are a couple of companies that do internet sales that way. For the record, taking pictures of animals when your moving larger numbers of them can be very time consuming.

For what its worth, i have recieved a few animals over the years ranging from kingsnakes to crested geckos from Alfredo at Xtreme. I have dealt with them in person and online, and have always had a pleasant experience. I cant speak for the wholesale department, but i have never had a second thought about them.

Alfredo and Xtreme Reptiles

EXCELLENT ...the only way to describe this dealer. I have never had a problem with this dealer. He is honest, very knowledgable and cares about his specimens. I wish others would follow his lead...but then,he is a rarity...he does what he says--his word is his bound. He is the only dealer that I feel totally safe dealing with in S. Florida....E.Turner

good product!

My bud's store does business with them and I have gotten a great yellow monitor through them and have a bud who got a great pair of adult blue trees from tehm. Best blues I've yet to see.

Wholesale works like that, it is like the bottom of the bucket sometimes. They lower their prices, they offer lower quality animals. I may try buying some corns from them at retail, and seeing how it goes. I may have a changed opinion. I am willing to give them a second try however.

From what I've read about them here

they seem to be very upfront. Now if I were buying 100 animals sure I'd just pay my money and have them ship them. But I contacted them about some BRBs they have listed, I was thinking of adding one maybe two to those I already have. I want to be able to pick the ones I want yet they do not provide photos of the animals and yes I did ask, more than once . As I told them , I don't wany to purchase without seeing what I would be getting. Now it would be one thing if they only sold wholesale but they place adds to attract us small timers and I don't think it's to much to ask to see what you are buying. It just bothered me that they are so unwilling heck in the time it took them to reply to my emails they could have taken some shots and sent them to me.

First off, photos take a lot of time and effort. Especially when you have a large number of people you are dealing with and they would all come to expect getting the same treatment. Suppose you have only 10 people per day asking you for photos of 10 animals each? You would have to hire someone full time just to take care of this. And then what do you do between the time the request for the photos came in and someone else places an order for the animal(s) sight unseen? Hold them? Tell the buyer, "No, someone else may decide to buy them because I sent them photos of the animal three hours ago and haven't heard back from them yet"? Suppose 10 people ask for a photo of the same animal? Would you then have to go through the list one by one from the first request to the last to give them first rights of refusal before you could actually sell that animal? Just managing the records of which animals had photos sent to who would be a major job.

Heck, I remember the days of visiting Tom Crutchfield's place and him having boxes of price lists getting ready to go out the door. Virtually everything on those lists were already sold and gone before the price lists even hit the mailbox! Someone dealing with high volume wholesale business doesn't keep the stuff around for long. Certainly not long enough to make taking photographs feasible or realistic. But heck, if you are talking about $5,000+ animals, sure, I think maybe they would be glad to provide photos for you.

i have to agree Alfredo and his team are top notch! i have never had any complaints.

What does that have to do with what I asked . I just asked for photos of the animals something every other seller I've dealt with had no problem providing? Since you brought up a sale what would they do if the animals I bought sight unseen were not at all what I was looking for? are they going to return my money and pay shipping both ways. it's simple if they don't want to deal with the hobbiest then they shouldn't offer animals to them.

If they sent me photos of the animals and they were sold to someone else before I did anything then that's my tough luck. But without they don't get my business now or in the future simple as that.

Seems to be a lot of comments here stateing wow they are wonderful but did they send you pictures of what you were buying??? seems they used to .

Myself without at least pictures of the animals, I'm not buying and I bet I'm not the only one that feels that way. Yeah there are comments here about how happy some are doing business with them but there seems to be some unhappy campers as well. I don't want to be one of the unhappy! I guess I just want to do business with someone who can show me what they have and can give me what I'm looking for. But that's just my opinion as well as my money to spend where they want my business.

I secondwhat Rich had to say. It would be impossible for a wholesaler to send pics to everyone that wanted them. It would take way to much time.

When buying in bulk your taking a chance. Thats a chance you know of ahead of time.

Well,
I'll second what Randy said. If they don't want to make the time for small time hobbyists then they shouldn't expect their business.
I have ordered from Ben Siegal before, who I believe is one of the larger suppliers. He always has time for photos and to answer any questions.
On the flip side I have ordered from Strictly Reptiles who incidently "could not provide pictures" and the animal was nothing like what was described.
I guess each to his own but for me I would never consider buying another animal without a photo of the ACTUAL animal I would be receiving.

This is a waste of time argument...

Hobbyists should not buy from wholesalers if they are not going to order large quantities of animals. I am a hobbyist as well as a large volume buyer and I will say that it is not worth my time to cater to every tom, dick, and harry who want my animals. We large volume purchasers, pet stores, and jobbers take a big risk everytime we make a purchase with companies like strictly, extreme, zooimps, etc etc. We know we are going to have DOA's, weak animals, and good animals. This is something we have accepted and know happens. For this reason no hobbyist should ever purchase from a wholesaler. If you do not like what you are going to get, don't buy it. Cheap prices come with a cost. WE accept it based on the relationships we develop with our wholesalers. Our orders usually are in the $1000's at a time though.

I only deal with two major companies to be honest because of the luck I've had. Xtreme is on my iffy list because of two dead animals I got from them. But then again I also purchased some high risk animals. I knew the pros and cons before I made my purchase.

If you want high class stock buy from a breeder. If your buying in volume to fill orders or buying in volume to establish your personal collection or group collections buy from an importer. Don't waste their time by being demanding. If it wasn't for them, you wouldn't have your leopard geckos and fat tail geckos.

Cheers
Jason

Money is material, reputation is life. Without my money, I still have my reputation.

The expectations of two different markets are being presented here in the replys. Niether side is wrong. However, if Fredo or any other wholesaler is going to venture into the retail market from time to time, they should be willing to go through the motions,IMO.

Several folks have suggested that hobbyist shouldn't purchase from wholesalers. I agree, but are they still a "wholesaler" when they place an ad in the retail market?

I've dealt with Alfredo many times over the years in both sales and purchases. No problems. I'd like to point out that if a supplier is placing and add that says for example, "Brazilian Rainbow Boa adults. Clean imports for (Whloesale price or close)..." This indicates a number of specimens that the person is not likely to take a pic of a single animal. When the add is for a specific specimen then you likely already have a specific picture and the details of the specimen/specimens. We usually list a specific specimen or a specific group of animals with the details. However, on occasion we will simply have an add for a number of a particular species. If we are wholesaling a number of specimens we usually refrain from listing them in the retail environment for the very reasons mentioned.(The time it takes to take pics of each animal and the possibility that that particular animal may be wholesaled at any time.) If you decide to inquire it might be helpful to simply ask for exactly what you are looking for. I.E. "I need a male Emerald tree boa in the 3-4' range with white blazes at least 3/4 of the length. No scars and good body weight. Do you have a specimen that matches this description? I would be willing to pay a little more if you can provide a specimen that matches this description?" This narrows it down from say, 15 specimens to 1-2. This will limit the time that the supplier needs to put into your request. It keeps both the customer and the supplier from wasting each others time. In addition if you have a photo of a specimen that resembles what you want it helps even more. Many large dealers won't even reply to these steps...Just too busy or it not worth their time. Sometimes it's just easier to deal with a person that has specific specimens and pics. Another step is to simply visit the supplier and hand pic them. Ben has more time because he's not dealing with the volume that many of these companies are. They are more wholesale based where he's mostly retail and hand pics particular specimens. Each has it's pros and cons. I guess it's just a matter of what your looking for in quality and customer service as well as the retail versus mainly wholesale market. Either way they are not a bad company. They just are in a different market.
