    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

My Leos are starting to grow out of their little leo hides and i was wondering, instead of going out and buying a bunch of new hides, there are many beaches and creek beds around here with some really cool rocks and i was wondering if i used a bunch of those and used my glue gun to make them new hides if that would be safe? Of course I would scrub the rocks and soak them to get them clean and use non toxic glue, but i just wanted your opinions whether this would be safe or not.
 
I would think, baking the rocks in the oven would be safer than using a harsh chemical with fumes. I made a dry hide out of slate tiles that I broke up and stacked, and used a marine apoxy. Takes a few days to dry all the way and for the smell to go away. But it worked out nice. I'll see if I can find pictures of it, or I'll take one.
 
I'm not sure if the glue gun would be the best way to adhere them... the glue might soften under the heat, and I've found old items that I used hot glue on where the glue became soft and sticky over time. I'd use caulk, grout or another non-toxic adhesive. (I don't know if it's non-toxic, but gorilla glue will hold darn near anything)
 
That would be great if you could find a pic of yours. i just thought maybe the glue gun would be safest because you can get non toxic glue. I wonder if caulk would work though and be safe, my Husband and father in law are framers i will ask him to bring some home or atleast an empty tube so i can read the back of it. What the heck is Gorilla Glue?lol Sorry I haven't ever heard of it. Anyway I will look around on the net and at a few craft stores in town and see if I can find some sort of really strong non toxic glue.
 
OK, I had to take pictures, and Diego was willing to show it off for you. What is nice about this design is I have it on the cool end and have a black light over it for a few hours just before night fall. The top slate gets nice and warm and the bottom one gets a little warm and the bottom area stays cool. After he eats I usually find in on the top slate.

It claims to be completely non-toxic when cured. It expands to fill gaps, so it's great for things like stone that don't fit toether snugly. Straight silicone adhesive like they use for fish tanks is also non-toxic.

oh wow thats really cool, what a little show off.lol He looks like he has some gecko peronality. i have a ton of extra tiles too.

Hey that stuff looks pretty cool, they only have it at like every store here in town. I will have to go check that stuff out. I will post some pics. I imagine it will be a while still have to go get some rocks.lol I will have to take my kids out to help me find some.
 
Thank you. I bought a pack of tiles, left them in the box and just took a hammer to them. Picked out the big pieces for each level, then broke up the rest for the columns. The marine epoxy, I got from home depot. It's a clay like compound that is in a cylinder tube. You cut off a piece and mix it up. I looks like that blue crap teachers used to use to stick stuff on walls, but very messy on the fingers. Hardens up real nice and with the weight of the hide I made I can pick it up and it doesn't fall apart. The packaging is light blue but I can't remember the name of the stuff.
