• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

You are still here?

I am betting I could delete every forum here except the classifieds and 90 percent of the people who still come here would not even notice.

After having some experience on Facebook, I can see the draw of Facebook and the stark contrast with this site. Participation. Plain and simple. No one here wants to participate. No one wants to discuss anything. Yes, I know. Me included. Well honestly, if most people have lost interest in this site, why should it keep mine? I check in, nothing new except some new or bumped ads. Yawn... Maybe I will be back in a few days. Maybe not. But just to find the same thing? I will do something else...

It is what it is. I think this site is still operating in the black. Haven't checked lately. A few might notice when it isn't because I will have shut down the ability for anyone to pay for memberships and advertisements. From then the countdown begins. Game over.

I'm really sorry that's the case here. I came back really hoping that I could find the kind of discussions that I really used to enjoy, as well as perhaps some shenanigans, lol. IDK where that has gone. 🫤

The thing is, in my opinion, Facebook REALLY sucks for holding lengthy and detailed discussions. I will get notices of replies made to posts I have made here and there on Facebook pages, but when I click on the links, I really have to search to find where those replies are located. Maybe it is just my inexperience talking, but really not the sort of layout I can warm up to. Of course, I have been using forum based formats since back in the USENET days, and 300 baud dialup networks before that, so it may be just what I am used to. I suppose mostly everyone else is a relative newbie that got their internet teething done on these newer social media platforms.

And I STILL do not do my internet stuff using my cell phone. I can tell that staring at the small screen on a cell phone is not doing my eyes any favor. And forget about using the little thumb and finger tip keyboard to type out anything extensive.

But those are apparently what most people prefer these days. Maybe this is just the reader's digest generation. I do know that if I am looking for research on some topics, I will seek out the forum structure for that sort of info. Going to a Facebook group or page has proven to be a colossal waste of time for me.

And now with YouTube being overrun with AI generated stuff, and certainly most other platforms as well, not sure how much of anything I trust as being the truth any longer. Heck, speaking of things getting overrun, I can't remember the last time I found a seller on Ebay that was actually a USA seller selling USA made products. They really should rename that place to "ChinaBay".

Maybe I need to start discussing politics and religion here to see if ANYONE with a pulse even reads anything other than specific classifieds that they are interested in.

I miss Usenet. I was so addicted to it. Now it would be hard to justify the monthly expense. I loved the format.

Remember rec.pets.herp?

Man, that was a LONG time ago, and most likely my memory fails me, but I thought that was a free service? As long as you had a 300 baud modem and a local dial-in you could access any of the groups there. At that time places like the NRA had dial-in groups that were free if you could use their local phone number. Then there was a service called "The Source" which I recall was a dial-up service that you had to pay for. And, of course, AOL started up around this time also, and charged for their dial-up service.

But like I said, man, that was a really long time ago. Back when the upgrade from a 300 baud dial up modem to 1200 baud was mind boggling, and the 4 mHz Z80 chip and 32K of RAM was cutting edge, I can actually remember a salesman telling me while I was purchasing my Exidy Sorcerer that I would never, ever, need more than 32K of RAM for the rest of my life. And the 2mHz Z80 was faster than I would ever really need. :ROFLMAO:

Any free UseNet lacks retention or speed. Unlimited high-speed downloads with the most binary and text retention costs. I did a couple of the free ones or ad supported ones and as you follow things backwards all of a sudden information is gone. I tried downloading an old Tarzan movie just to check speed and it was slow and timed out a lot and missing parts.. Cost isn't that much but todays internet makes is somewhat obsolete. Love the format though.
