Sometimes, when you take the time to make people feel welcome, you can change their lives. Whether you welcome them to your family, a church, school, group, or just a random act of kindness to a passing stranger, the impact of your welcome can go much farther than you expected.
I remember one time I was testing a small child's vision. Something made me test more than once. After several tests it was clear he was peeking with the other eye; I sat him down in the clinic and welcomed him and just talked to him, and finally he admitted he could not see very much at all out of one eye but had always just compensated with the other eye and had not told anyone of his deficiency.
I called his mom and referred him, and she later informed me that the doctor told her that but for my intervention, there was a possibility of permanent vision consequences including blindness without the program the doctor prescribed of patching the good eye to force the weaker eye to perform.
Do you have any stories where you welcomed someone and your welcome made a difference to their life?
