In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Midnight EST, 09/21/10 - server upgrade

It is what it is, but certainly not what it was.

Just a note to let you all know that roughly around midnight, eastern time, the server will be undergoing some upgrades. Things like this rarely seem to go smoothly, so keep that in mind if things start to get a bit shaky around here. The server guys don't think it will be down long, but you all know how THAT goes....

Any concerns of data loss with this update?

Heck, who knows? :shrug01: The tech told me that backups were not running on the server since sometime in November, and I know I have asked at least three different people at one time or another to check that. That was an issue when we lost a bunch of attachments because backups weren't taking place like they were supposed to.

I guess I should get more involved in the server stuff, but honestly, it's just not all that interesting to me.... Plus I have noticed that it's getting harder and harder for this old dog to learn new tricks....

Well, the upgrade is taking place RIGHT NOW. Fasten your seatbelts and put your trays in the upright position...

Anyone having any issues?

Can someone go to http://www.CornSnakes.com for me and see if they can at least see the message saying the forum is closed? I'm just getting a string of error messages....

It's working now for me and I can see CornSnakes.com fine. The banner ad code also got blitzed, but looks like they fixed that as well.

Hopefully I can get to bed soon. Got to get up in a few hours and drive out of town to check on my car in the shop.

Rich... you broke it!!!!

When trying to upload thumbnail pics for the classifieds I get the following error message

Are you still having that problem? From what I can see, it appears that other members are not having any trouble with the thumbnails.

Yep... just tried and got the same error. Im just using the images from the ad like I always have and using the URL upload like I always have. :shrug01:

the try above was on the work computer... and no dice.

I just got home and tried again on my home computer... I get the same error message. So its not a computer specific problem. I was able to post them just fine before the site went down for maintenance.

I have several cornsnake ads posted. Go into one and copy the URL off of one of the images posted and then try to attach it using the URL... you'll see what Im seeing.

Try uploading the images from your local system to see if that works. Quite honestly, I never attach an image via the url when it is actually much easier to just use the embedded IMG code brackets within the post.

If everyone else has this problem, then I would guess it just might be some sort of security code kicking in to block that practice.

Does anyone else attach images via the URL?

I have never uploaded from my local system mainly because I just pull the URL code from the ad when Im placing it. Its faster and less time consuming.... plus sometimes I dont place the ads from my home machine.

Ok... Im not on my home computer right now but I did save one of the images to my thumbdrive. It did let me upload the thumbnail photo by browsing the local drive for the image.

So it has to do with the scripting used for uploading from a URL. Any chance we can get this fixed?

Is this an issue for more than one member? Is anyone else experiencing this?

One member... two different computers in two different locations. Rich if you open up one of my ads in the cornsnake section and try to attach one of the photos using the URL... chances are you will have the same problem I am. I/m giving you permission to try and edit one of my ads so you can see what I am seeing.

I'm not doubting that the problem is real. My question is targeted to find out how much priority this needs to have based on how many people it really impacts.
