In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Matthew Walker of Ohio (WARNING)

I tried to let it go for a day and come at this with a fresh mind, but I can't sleep. I am a little angry because I should not have sold her and never felt right about the deal. She was one of my favorite cresteds and I should have just kept her as a pet instead of trying to clear room to concentrate on colubrids and balls. I want to keep this more professional but can't help it that my feelings about some things are coming into play with my decision and my shortness.

First off, I can't find it but in his first email he lowballed me on the $250 and said she wasn't worth more because she had a nipped tail, was only good for breeding, and he sees them at shows all the time. I should have said no and regret it now. I feel like I sold her out in the name of "making room". And later in the email above he said he never had a good feeling about me, but still wasn't in a hurry to contact me when he said she was having problems adjusting?

Second he never updated me at all on how she was or what was going on, or even that she arrived. For the last 3 years she was kept in a 66qt. Sterilite rack, never misted, and kept in the mid to high 70's in summer and high 60's to mid 70's in winter. So as drastic a change as he said he put her through would easily stress out a female acclimated to the conditions I kept her in. Too much change to fast isn't a good thing and if he would have contacted me earlier we could have figured it out or he could have sent her back.

Third, I honestly think he is lying. He doesn't have a job... but has a real estate signature in his emails. He has had sixteen geckos since summer.... now he apparently is one of the first people to own them in the country (over a decade of experience).

I'm not one to say no to people when they have issues. I usually just hand them a replacement or refund their money. I've replaced things I know I had nothing to do with because it's not really a big deal. But for some reason this feels different then every other time.

Healthy animals don't just die. I know that, but I also know that an animal doesn't need to be sick to die. I have a freezer full of what were healthy mice to prove that. I don't know what happened but I do think it's more than he is saying. She wasn't thin, she was eating well, she had good calcium reserves in her sacs, she hadn't recently laid eggs (+20 days), she wasn't old.

Something about the whole thing just doesn't feel right. And I'm really mad at myself for not going with my instincts in the first place. Maybe I'm wrong in this, either way it's here now and if someone doesn't want to buy from me because of it that's OK.

Here are a few more of the emails.....

Forgot to add that the reason my adds on kingsnake are down has to do with how their relisting works. You can't bump an add so I only list them for a day or 2, then relist them to bump them back up. I could list them for 30 days, but would have to rewrite the add every day to get it bumped back to the top. They will be relisted again, just didn't get to it today (football).

She wasn't thin, she was eating well, she had good calcium reserves in her sacs, she hadn't recently laid eggs (+20 days), she wasn't old.

This is what really stands out to me. Unless I totally missed it, he is basing his claims that you knew she was a troublesome, less-than-healthy gecko completely on the fact that she didn't eat with quite as much gusto as he expected. It seems only logical that a gecko that was recently shipped and introduced into a new habitat wouldn't be the most voracious eater. The fact that it wasn't bad enough to mention to you that she wasn't eating right, and he hasn't made any claims that she was skinny or sickly looking, pretty much says it all for me.

The OP (buyer) should collect a handful of BK just for starting this bongus thread.

1. Contradictions
2. No pictures of the animal
3. Outside of the TOS

It is possible for people get an animal and then lie about the death, or sell it and try and get their money back from the seller (it's called a scam) and try to manipulate the boards emotions by saying these words "the seller doesn't CARE about his animals).

My view is apparently the seller cared enough to keep it in good health before selling to the buyer. My view is based on the fact that it apparently looked ok when the buyer received it as he never contacted the seller or took pictures.

I would think it's the BUYER that didn't care about his animals, I don't see any mention of taking the animal to a VET (at least he would ten have some kind of paper trail).

not gonna get into this one but the

"Have fun with my $250 while my wife and I are looking for jobs and I
look at a dead gecko."
...bothered me a little too, perhaps another gecko purchase wasnt the wisest idea if so strapped for cash, the pertinent thing is i have known people in difficult financial situations that have fallen short on there usuall good care of there animals...also the darker side of my mind says...buyers remorse? all the same cant really take a side in this other than seller is in no way obligated to compensate and he cant be considered a bad guy when HIS TERMS were known and understood before the purchase...while i as a seller would consider a partial refund under different circumstances, in this case i would feel Insulted that he came at me with acusations and demands for compensation outside of the terms...

k sry for the rant just my take on the info.

^lol kinda disregarded my own statement and 'got into it', its a fuzzy one but the buyer just isnt representing a solid case against the seller here...

Last night I remembered I had all the emails on my phone but couldn't post them from there. Luckily this morning my mind actually works so I forwarded the thread to myself and here it is.....

As much as I hate to bump this back up to the top I will to say this. While I have not purchased anything from Matt I have seen him at a number of shows and have witnessed his animals. I have been doing shows long enough to be able to tell who takes care of their animals and who does not and Matt definitely falls under the category of does take care of his animals. I have referred people to Matt on a number of occasions and I would not hesitate to purchase from him myself. Were I able to take on another project I would have already picked up some corns from him.

To restate what has already been said, the OP didn't inform Matt of his concerns until after the animal died which was after the 3 day guarantee Matt offers. His (the OP) claims of being too busy and having all these things going on and his financial troubles are not Matt's problem. Maybe he should try and get his ducks in a row before taking on any more responsibilities or spending money on animals. If he was too busy with his hectic life to be able to e-mail Matt then I have a hard time believing he is able to find the time to properly care for his animals. He also has too many contradictions in his postings for me to address and contradictions rarely translate to the truth being told. :NoNo:

This is just a general observation. I've been around for a while, and from time to time the accuser writes how she is short of food for her cildren on account of the purchase or, as here, that he is short cash and looking for work.

Everyone is going through hard times now but perhaps if one is unemployed the reptile purchases should be put off for a bit.

No kidding, you know what I'd really like right now? A rosy freakin boa. And I have a friend who is offering an adult to me at $40. But when my parents and I are struggling to buy groceries every month, since my mom's unemployment ran out and I can't get more hours at my job, making another reptile purchase is sort of asinine. Why is this so difficult for people to understand?

Which is it, Bill?

Sounds like the OP is just coming on here to cause problems and obviously:

1. Can't spell.
2. Can't get their story / lies straight.
3. Is looking for money and attacking reputable people to try and get it because he can't find a job. Probably a direct influence of #1. Oops.

People, stop making trouble when there isn't any just to be selfish?

I know nothing about crested geckos, but I have a feeling that Matthew, someone that is on Fauna and knows a lot about the community and what it means to be a good guy/bad guy, regardless of his 3 day guarantee would NEVER sell an unhealthy animal knowingly, and I have a feeling he would try to help regardless of 3 days if he thought it was some fault of his own.

Obviously, the above statement is not the case and the OP is trying to defend himself to death and make a buck off a dead animal. Fo' Shame.

Sorry to the OP, but i have to side with the seller on this one.. First off, if there was an issue upon arrival i believe you should have/would have contacted the seller that minute and not waited till the animal was dead... Second, you were fully aware of and agreed to the sellers terms prior to the sale.. and, third.. You need to realize that you are purchasing LIVE animals and sometimes live animals die for no reason at all.. This stinks, but it's a fact that we all live with in this hobby.

I realize that you're very upset, but your tone and attitude in your emails was uncalled for.. The seller did nothing wrong and in my opinion he deserves an apology.

Also, your personal financial situation is NOT the sellers problem and should remain personal!

Sorry for your loss.

(to the bolded) <<< AMEN!!

Frankly, I get tired of people whining about how they are short of cash or without a job as if that is a reason that they should be refunded.:NoNo:

I see such statements as purely manipulative.:reddevil:

According to the email, it died on the 15th, not the 14th too.

Months or over years, he's had geckos.

Shrug. The gecko died over twice the amount of days in the guarentee. He never mentioned the gecko being ill or skinny after he recieved it.

If *I* got a gecko, with a 3 day guarentee, and it seemed "off", I would indeed email the seller immediately. If I got a gecko with a 3 day guarentee and it died 8 days later, I would contact the seller to see what *I* did wrong.

I recently got a AFT gecko at a show, and when it did not perk up after a couple days I contacted the seller to see what I was doing wrong. There was no guarentee, I picked it out at a show and drove it home. I never assumed the animal was sold to me ill. Turned out that the animal was kept slightly differently than my other AFT geckos are kept(though they are doing perfectly fine, there is a slight difference in the amount of light the new one is used to). Once I adjusted to the "old" way that the animal was used to, it perked right up and was fine.

Communication and responsibility. If you don't like a 3 day guarentee, then find a seller with a lifetime guarentee if that's what you require to purchase an animal. Live creatures sometimes just plain die. Appear healthy and die. Was something wrong? Maybe. Will we ever know for sure? Nope. Does it suck that the animal died? Of course!

My $0.02 presented in a rambling style with a side order of potato salad. Potato salad may have been consumed prior to receipt of this posting. No refunds will be issued for missing potato salad.

I KNEW you drove over here last night and ate my potato salad!

And very, very good point. I'd be calling to see what *I* did wrong, not blame the seller, after that amount of time. I'm glad snakes seem so low maintenance in comparison

After this one. Done posting. I will not assist the buyer in attempting to ruin the reputation of a decent seller by keeping that BIG RED X at the top of the list of threads. ;)
