Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Info *Kris Smalley : Disturbing photos

you guys and girls have gotten to the root of this, waaaaaayyyyyyy more than 6 weeks, that those animals have been, basically tortured, for a lack of better terms. unacceptable !! and whether or not he accepts responsibility, for me anyway, is not the issue. he is a horrible animal keeper. i was out of commision with a very major back surgery a few years ago, with little to no help mind you, and my animals didnt even touch what those animals went through. unacceptable, and that is animal abuse. here in arizona, sherriff Joe Arpaio would have his ass in tent city

Same here Ryan.Had my 2nd back surgery in March and my animals didn't go a day with out care. You make a plan to get them taken care of or crawl and do it yourself...no excuses.

I have already posted several times explaining the situation, and as to being able or not to physically handle the care of the room I am currently disabled, have been for 6 years, and during the time period the pics were taken I was as I said before, sick as a dog, lying flat on my back, coughing up my lungs and unable to even walk to the bathroom without sweating through a shirt. It eventually progressed into pneumonia. I just spoke with the original poster and she doesn't want anything to do with this, why I cannot say. I also received a carpet python that had an upper resp infection from Ms. Erne which did not respond to antibiotics or extra heat, it subsequently died and transmitted the same infection to several of my animals which also died. Take it as you will, I haven't been avoiding responding to any of these accusations, you just have to scan through the pages to read what I wrote.

Frankly, you need a better excuse. Those cages didn't get that way while you were sick. Those snakes wouldn't be able to make that much feces if they wernt being fed, and some of the boas look like they hadent eaten in MONTHS and there was still crap in the cages.

Even if the room/cages were clean, I would still be upset with how they are housed. Some of the boas can't hardly move, let alone stretch out. Complete shame, those were all beautiful boas.

Utterly appalling....I just can't understand this at all.

My snakeroom is not perfect. But my snakes have clean water at all times, and eat on a schedule specific for each animal, that is recorded in a notebook, and they always eat on time. The room has no bad smells, and they are cleaned regularly. I did have a phorid fly problem in August, and hung a fly strip and cleaned like a fiend for 2 weeks to eradicate it but got it under control quickly.

I am going in for a major surgery one week from today. I will be in the hospital for 2 days. All my adult animals are either on breeding loans with people I trust explictly, or brumating in my basement. My 2 year olds, yearlings and hatchlings are in my snakeroom.
At one of my pre-surgery appointments with my surgeon, I told him exactly what my animal care entails and asked him if he thought I would be able to do it when I got out of the hospital. He said that he saw no reason why I can't, and said that I "won't be an invalid".

Just in case I have 2 people lined up to help me if I need it. I am more worried about their care than just about anything else right now.

I can't even imagine in my worst nightmares how this situation came about for those poor animals....I just can't.....

exactly. it is unacceptable, period. and its unacceptable on 2 different accounts. being sick should not, in any way, obstruct proper care for animals. and 2, saying those animals were only left without care for 6 weeks.

i stick to my guns by saying, all this blaming and who is really at fault and all this, doesnt matter. animals were neglected, sick and dying. in my world, that is abuse. abuse = felony charges.

:iagree:

That is exactly what I was saying before. FELONY!!! The tough thing though is to try and get passed the judge that may get the "willies" from snakes and just shrug their shoulders and say, "too bad." I have seen it before when an animal isn't a dog, cat, or other cuddly furry thing that it isn't the same. Well DAMN THAT!

You deserve felony charges Kris. Maybe I'm wrong for judging you as was implied by others but you did wrong and when people do wrong it is up to our society to make sure you remember it. In this case, I hope our judicial system takes part in making sure you remember to take care of your animals.

OMG!

I'm new to the hobby and even i KNOW that what you did is plain out and imple WRONG on so many different levels. I own close to 40 snakes amongst various other animals, and still I have never neglected my animals. I'm new to the hobby and even I am completely disgusted and even i know that took WAY longer than 6 weeks. Plus if an animal comes with a wheeze, even I know it needs to be kept from other animals. I rescued a RTB with a massive respiratory infection. She was seen by the vet routinly (1x + a week!) What i cant understand is you let all that money go to waste for what?! Did you better yourself at all by doing that to those animals? Do you think they deserve it?! God forbid you ever find someone who is willing to bear you a child and stay! I just recently found outI was pregnant which means no reptiles for me for 8 more months, but even my knowing that, i recruited great friends to help me and I have a wonderful husband who is willing to bend over backwards to not only his work schedule but mine too! I'm a stay at home and devoted all day to my reptiles. Now he devotes half days and all weekend to them until I can again! This story is sickening and saddening. If you have any reptiles that still need rescuing feel free to contact me. You will pay the shipping but i'll foot the vet bills to make sure they are properly caged, cleaned, fed, and taken care of. This is ridiculous! You should not have to get chewed out by a 21 year old who has only been in reptile business for a year! totally unnacceptable. you are a disgrace!:NoNo::censored::angry::angry::angry::angry::censored:

Ive been sick twice in the last six months. Ive managed to feed and properly maintain all my enclosures. Granted I dont keep snakes. I keep chamelsons but still I had to feed the lizards and the feeders and keep all the feeder bins cleaned and watered etc... You grit your teeth and like others have said crawl to the reptile room and do your chores. That was the most disgusting set of pics Ive ever seen. You Kris are the reason why we have shows like "hoarders" and "fatal attractions" on tv.

I have a ball python that is on his 13th month without food... is it possible that all this went on even longer???

Also, to say that you've been "disabled for 6 years" - um... plenty of people in this field are disabled... I know that I AM disabled, and have been for quite some time. The time I spend on animal care and loving my animals is what keeps me sane, but this isn't about me, it's about you. So SIX years... SIX YEARS... That was SIX YEARS you could have found those snakes new homes rather than playing CL flipper and out to make a buck on these poor animals until you just gave up on them, and left them in your "snake room" to die...

what are u talkin about

This is pretty old

So we should all just drop it, move on, and forget about it? If you don't like it then move on, the rest of us who care have the right to say what we want....as much as we want. Are you saying what he did is not a big deal? Thanks for helping the hobby

So for 6weeks you basically didn't even think to check on them once? I love my gf to death, and she's definately an animal lover herself, but even if i am only gone overnight/ for the day knowing she's there keeping an eye on everything, i still have to give everything the once over when i get back home. As far as being sick. I've spent hours horribly sick sweating bullets in the 80some degree herp room cleaning, feeding, and filling water bowls because this is something i love doing. There is no excuse to not even check on your animals for 6weeks ESPECIALLY if you were in the same house as them.

Agreed. And if he was that sick where he couldn't move enough to even CHECK on his snakes for six weeks he would have been in the hospital. And I agree that some of those conditions were MORE than six weeks old. I used to voluteer for an organization that rescued horses and this is such a big reminder of that. The wrongdoers always have an excuse.

I too, am appalled. They were in your own HOUSE, not like they were at some other facility! Whether it was someone else's duty to be cleaning cages is moot. These are YOUR animals. It is YOUR responsibility to make sure they are taken care of. I might say to my husband, "Hey honey, I need to leave for work, can you make sure the Redfoots have water?" But when I get home I CHECK to see if it got done, because those are MY tortoises!

You wanna talk about sick? I have multiple chronic health issues. Most days are good days, but I have bad days. I clean my cages and feed my animals every single day. On bad days, it might take me longer but it gets DONE. Period.

I have also been through chemo. Did I just stop taking care of my animals because I was so sick that I would rather die than move? Absolutely not! My animals depended on me as much as my children did. So what if it took me two hours to clean a cage because I had to sit down every two minutes? I still friggin' did it! Don't you DARE use sick as an excuse unless you have been through what I have been through! Even then it isn't a good enough excuse for me. Anyone that has had chemo knows what I am talking about. You were too SICK? I am so angry right now.....

The right thing to do was come here, say, "I apologize to everyone for being a horrible person. There is no excuse for what I did. I have learned that I am not suited to own animals, and I will never make that mistake again." Instead you made up lame excuses about furnaces and girlfriends and health issues. That is NOT being a "man" and that is NOT taking responsibility.

I am resisting swearing and threatening so hard right now. I can't say anymore.

I also want to add that if the furnace really did explode, burning to death was probably a mercy to those animals compared to the slow, rotting death YOU condemned them to. What a horrible thing, to say that burning to death was better! Does that put your disgusting abuse into a context where you can understand it?

You are a strong person and obviously very dedicated to your animals. Maybe he should take a lesson from you. And you have every right to be angry

Your time frame is about as laughable as your attempts to gain sympathy when you gave none to animals that completely and wholly depended on your for their very survival. People like you are the reason this hobby is so negatively looked upon, because these animals, or their ancestors, were removed from the wild and placed into captivity to suffer in this nature. It is beyond appalling or any word that exists in any language to convey absolute disdain and disgust.

You are a miserable excuse for a human being and are not fit to care for another living creature.

Six weeks? Considering the average boa defecates once every two weeks and sometimes four, I highly doubt that. There is months worth of waste in there. Months. If not a whole solid years worth. Those animals were fed and allowed to sit and deteriorate in their own filth for months. People who rape, murder and destroy lives are given more mercy than those unfortunate animals were. Why? Because the person who took on the responsibility for their existence abandoned his commitment and failed miserably in giving them what they need. And what they need is not an incredible amount of effort to ask of someone; food, water and adequate shelter. How hard is that really to provide?

Boas on top of other boas. Boas in too small of enclosures. Boas living with dead boas. Boas starving. Boas dehydrated. Boas stuck in shed. Boas burrowing in their own feces. Boas being eaten alive by mouth rot and other abhorring issues.

Oh, and FYI? Buying food for the animals do them no good if they are not given to them.

I do not care if you were sick. I do not. Flat out. If it was overwhelming, you should have called a humane society or wildlife and fisheries. Not wallow in your own self pity while many of those animals died a slow, horrid and atrocious death.

This is not your roommate's fault. I do not care if you asked her to care for them, the responsibility ultimately falls on you. You are the General Manager, she is the Assistant, period. End of story. You want to sit here and say "If it was so bad, why not tell someone sooner" BS? Forget you. Why didn't you call someone for help? Because you did not care enough for them, because your ego is far too large to be bothered with the meaningless lives of animals you use for profit. That's why. We know it and you know it, you are just trying to save your miserable hide with your pathetic excuses that are nothing more than lies wrapped in *****.

Karma is a ***** though, and I hope you realize that.

Rant done.
