In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Kathy Weeks has sticky fingers - Thief

From what i understand their going over Hours worth of footage from the Security System, to see if they have the person on video. Once they do, that person WILL be charged according to the breeders that were stolen from.

Lets hope so because letting her go is sending out the wrong message to other thief's.

At this point, she'd be better off just admitting to it. Plead guilty, apologize, save what little dignity you have left and move along. "Shovel it high, shovel it deep" was the wrong course of action.

Bring on the burden of proof! I'm curious to see what the security footage yields.

. She is, well, was a friend of mine

Stephanie,

I'm sorry you are going through this. Whenever someone does something they shouldn't, they are always part of a framework of friends and family. It must be very hard for you :(

Thanks for the kind words, Lucille - - - it's true, everyone is someone's family member or friend, even the lowest of low. This is just a big bummer - I'm trying to contact her now, trying to get more information, but to no avail. I'd be afraid, too, if I had *likely* done something like this.

Nobody considers the consequences of these things.

But the sign of a true friend, I think, is to be able to recognize when your supposed friend has really, really, really ****ed up. I don't think I can really get past this.

Correct.

Charges cannot be pressed without someone having seen her remove the animals from the table.
Correction. There is something called possession of stolen products/ items

Kathy, you look vulnerable and have mobility problems so people practically threw animals at you? Sounds like an angle I might want to try.

Of course I will have to put my own spin on it. I think I will go to the next show and claim "motility" problems. Let me see what gets thrown my way.

Just in case you missed it Kathy, try another excuse.

make that possession of stolen property.

It does not matter if she "bought" it off of her imaginary friend. She should have known by the price.

Okay, to clarify, yes, she could have been charged, but the charges likely would not have stuck.

I made that comment based on what the vendors involved stated the cops told them.

Two things I can't stand. Liars and thieves. (Don't care for cheaters either but I guess that's another thread, another day.)

If she did do this, I hope the karma wheel spins back around to her pretty quickly.

If the value of stolen property is $300 or less and it was stolen directly from another person, or if the value of the property was more than $300 but not more than $10,000, the theft conviction is a Class 3 Felony which carries a possible sentence of up to 5 years in a state penitentiary and/or a fine of up to $25,000.

Yeah, I definitely haven't thought of doing that either. Theft is not my first instinct. Indeed, a false generalization (hopefully)

...I don't think I understand the last thought in your post. First of all, it doesn't matter why she needs the scooter, that's not our problem. From what I understand, it's to make up for severely limited mobility, but don't quote me on that because I'm not 100% sure (Kathy hasn't answered my e-mails) - if she used the need for a scooter as a means of trying to garner sympathy, that's foul and rancid, and karma will do it's job, but assuming that she doesn't actually need it at all is mildly twisted - - secondly, don't worry, I doubt anyone will give you special treatment for spouting off that your poor and can't afford their animals. ;)

I e-mailed her to tell her that this thread was started, but I doubt she's going to respond.

::sigh::

Still sad.

No with my last comment I was trying to get at whether or not it was a medical condition that put her in the scooter. Wasn't going for an insult. Simply investigation for my own opinion.

Ya know, I actually have that mentality that if you want something in life you have to work for it. Just about everything I own, (other than gifts) I have paid for. I have bought every single one of my cell phones, video game systems, animals, truck, I pay my own phone and insurance bills, utilities, the whole 9 yards. I love the feeling of opening a box with a new snake inside and knowing that I earned it. Something my parents taught me when I was young and it stuck with me.

I dont mean to foot my own horn, I just want to make sure no one thinks I am trying to pull a sympathy card. Although if you offer me a discount I would gladly accept! ;)

The charge of possession of stolen goods/property doesnt stick ever unless you can prove how she got it. for example. shes arrested for that and goes before the court and says.. this guy said he just purchased these geckos but seen something else he wanted way more, said he cut me a sick deal take a small loss and invest it into a animal he wants way more. I have no clue who he is but i can describe him to you.

Now its up to the prosecuter to be able to discredit that. sadly its VERY difficult to do which normally ends in that charge either getting thrown out or knocked down to something like disorderly conduct which is a small fine and out the door.

check the tapes. talk to vendor/customers. eyes all over someone seen something and might of not thought anything of it because of her handicap.

I can't believe she had the nerve to steal from anyone, but especially from Chicago Reptile House. Why chance stealing from the person running the show? I'm glad she got caught and the reptiles were returned to the breeders.

I wish there weren't people who would do this to someone. You KNOW there are lots of bad guys out there, but it is SO hard to take when it's someone you think you know, and that you genuinely like. :(
She looks like a pleasant enough lady from her picture-she looks very kind, like a person you would like to know.
I guess looks can be deceiving. I know it's hard stephanie. I went through the same thing before with a friend of mine who is no longer welcome in my house. She tried to steal from ME!

I'm also glad that the breeders got their animals back. That's a pretty chunk of change to lose if they hadn't recovered them!

:iagree:

This is a very depressing story. :(

I never thought that someone would steal at a show. I will be more careful at my next show.

From my understanding after a phone discussion with one of the parties she stole from, charges are in order, and good for them. The more this kind of crap goes unpunished, the more it will happen.

AND let me add...

I have thought about how easy it would be to just walk away with an animal from a table at a show. It doesn't mean I'm a thief, it means I'm trying to take care of what's mine. If I had thousands upon thousands dollars worth of tiny little merchandise at a show, you bet your butt I'd be protecting it.

Do you think if it was a jewelry show all the merchandise would be out where just anybody could pick it up? No way. If and when I make it to the point I have several animals at a show, I'll have something in place to prevent this kind of thing.

Awesome idea to BOI this. She needs to be brought into the light.

I hope that they win against her. maybe that'll make her realize exactly what she's done to herself. She stood to have a LOT of friends in the reptile community, and instead she screws them around and makes them her enemies. :( Trust gone down the toilet no matter what she does now. :(
