Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

is this normal?

they do that from time to time if no noticable mite then leave her alone, she is deciding heself where she is comfortable. just because a ball is soaking people automatically think there is a problem but this is not always the case. good luck

The temps are good hot spot around 95 cool spot around 80. No mites and she doesnt look like she is going into shed she shedded about a week ago. She is on paper towels but has a hidebox that has coco chips in it. I spray her hide box daily for humidity. Im just afraid she is too cold in the water. She is freezing when i pull her out.

I would lower that hot spot to 90 at the VERY highest. My hotspots don't get over 88. 95 and low air circulation....I would guess she is trying to cool down. The overall ambient temp is probably alot hotter than 80 on that cool side.
There is a bit of a debate on the whole 90 degree hot spot thing. MANY people keep these temps, but more and more people are lowering them with good results.

Good luck.

Is this the only hide, the one you spray daily?

With what are you reading your temperatures with?
Are you reading the hot spot directly on the hot spot, it might be higher than 95?
I keep all of my hot spots at 92 to 95 and have for years and have had zero issues, but you have to read that temperature directly on the hot spot.

Very few snakes soak for no reason, especially at 200 grams.

if you are that concerned put a smaller water bowl in her cage

That would probably not be a good idea:shrug01:

If she is in the bowl, I would guess there is a reason for it.

I would seriously lower your hot spot. Even if you take it to 90 to see what happens. 90 is in NO way to cool for your hot spot. They will be just fine and I would guess, you will start to see her leave her bowl.

Good luck

Ok I will lower the thermostat to get it to 90 and see what happens. She has a hide box on both the cold and hot side. I use a temp gun to read the temps so its pretty accurate. She might be getting ready to go into shed again. I feed every 5 days and she is on just weened rats so maybe it is because of getting ready to shed. Thanks everyone!

I have over 70 balls and have done numerous temp. tests and find they like it best around 82 with a hot spot at 85. although 90 is high it is not out of acceptable ranges for a hot spotas long as its not effecting the over all ambient temp in enclosure, and there is a cool end to go.

Taking the water bowl out and putting a smaller on in will not effect the animal and like i said before because a ball is soaking does not mean there is a problem. People jump to quick to say there is one because balls never soak, well hate to break the news they are like people have different temperments and pesonalitys i have one that loves to soak and others that if they touch water they go off the handle. So I would say before you make assumptions on my motive to take and put a smaller bowl in the enclosure have a good reason and not jsut a shrug icon.

If it matters I have her in a 28 qt tub with the smallest heat pad available. Ambient air is 80ish and the cool side gets to 78. Is this acceptable? Since i turned the thermostat down it is now 88-90 in the hot side. After she ate today she is now in her warm hide.

In my opinion your at good temps but i would keep an eye on her and see where she is favoring. in a tub it is really hard to provide temp gradients so typically you set the heat tape to say 88 but this would all depend on room temps also. I heat my whole room but still bring the box temps up with flex watt. everyone has different situations you will have to mess with it until you get it right. good luck

I would have agreed if the hot spot wasn't at 95 degrees. I think you are correct that balls soaking doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong, but I only feel comfortable saying that with proper husbandry. With a hot spot at 95, I would still guess that is the reason for the soaking, therefor removing the big water bowl could become harmful.

I am just looking at this from a different angle.

I think I will move her to a spare aquarium tank. Ill be able to regulate her temps better. Its just odd because the other balls are not doing this and their temps are the same. I did lower all of them. She is really bright today. Doesnt look like your normal normal.

I think what you are seeing is the example of snake haveing different requirements but can be met in its tub. just have to make proper adjustments. I did not see where you said a 95 degree hot spot, that would be at the most extreme end for a ball and in a 28 quart rack i do not believe that your ambient temps would be in the low 80s. I would be willing to bet they are more like high 80s. recheck with multiple thermometers if need be or a reliable heat gun that you know for sure is accurate.

Sorry i meant when i lowered the temp the ambient was reading around 80. I think I am going to pick up another probe thermometer and a better temp gun. The one i have is the keychain model. The wierd thing is is I have other BP's in the same rack same temps and they dont act this way. I also moved her bowl to a warmer part of the tank so it is at least not freezing.
