In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I'll post a pic as soon as I get them.

My Hogg is has a GREAT feeding response. I was feeding her about a month ago, and as I was covering her home w/a blanket so she wouldn't be likely to strike (no movement etc) She struck the glass twice. I looked at her quickly and she was fine.

About a month later she developed a brown area over a few scales RIGHT where she struck the glass. The brown covered over her pigmentation. It got slightly larger a few weeks ago. Then she shed.

After she shed, right where she bopped her head, where the brown spot was, there were no scales. In their place is basically pinkish tissue. It's not bone. But it looks like human skin. As if her scales were peeled away.

She's fine in terms of behavior. She doesn't even seem to notice they are missing.

My question is...WILL THEY GROW BACK???

If they don't, what should I do, if anything, about this delicate area where there are no scales?? I've never encountered this before.

Put some triple antibiotic ointment on it and keep an eye out for infection.

An Answer to my question?

But do you know the answer to my capped answer below that I originally posted.

Btw, I typed too fast in spelling Hog vs Hogg

I'd say they'll probably grow back, but don't expect them to look exactly right. Do you have a picture of the injury?

Here are the pictures. I think in one of them you can see a bit of red. It's not blood on the surface, I believe it's a blood vessel.

I feel pretty bad about this, because I've never had her strike so quickly as I was putting the blanket down. In fact, as I remember, the 2nd strike was after the blanket was lowered. She just has a great feeding response. She's not aggressive at all however. In fact, in her own way, she's quite shy.

When I had her laying in a box w/some papers, and as I came around to her, I was on the floor, she hid her head just below the edge of the box.

they should regrow but they will never look the same it looks like this is scar tissue and the healing process has already begun due to the wrinkling appearance of the surrounding scales.

I'm putting one more up. Thanks Varanis. I was wondering the same thing too, if that was scar tissue forming. I know if they grow back they won't look the same. I didn't know if they do, or if something grew in place, or worse, if the tissue present remains there w/out another layer. It looks so thin. My concern is she would tear the tissue by accident and get an infection in the future should that happen.

Here's 1 more pic.

That's just the standard Hog Island nose rub, I bet over half of them do something to their nose over the course of their life. Keep it clean and she'll be fine.

Nose rub? I've heard of it...but I didn't know a nose rub meant missing scales. She didn't rub her nose however, she struck the enclosure twice.
