In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

what kind of boa is this?

I was told by the guy I got him from that he is peruvian. I have no idea. Not sure his age, just under 5 feet. Any help would be great. Wish the pics were a little better...but this is the best I could do.
Thanks

Neat Normal! Absolutely not a pure Locale Peruvian. That, I can guarantee! It's a neat Normal BCI. Thanks for posting! Nice and healthy in appearance ;)

Can you elaborate a little? What characteristics are you referring to that don't make it a BCC? Just trying to get a little more informed. Thanks!:yesnod:

The color in the tail is often a good indicator, as well as pattern on the head. For some animals the number and formation of saddles can be an indication. But at the very least the way that tail is sort of yellow-orange and the face has simple bands sans spotting it looks very Colombian to me.

Google Peruvian BCC... Click 'images' after that and look for the difference. Too much to type... Thin saddles, head shape, deep rich red tail, color hue is off etc, etc. I'll check back if you post some pics in here...

Here is a solid example to start with or so... None are mine, just fine examples.

looks like a BCi to me.

from this thread, I got the following useful info, there's also a description there on how to do it - http://www.redtailboas.com/f31/belly-scale-count-37901/

generally:
BCI
55-79 mid-body scale rows
225-260 ventral scales
47-70 subcaudal scales
22-30 dorsal saddles

BCC
77-95 mid-body scale rows
231-250 ventral scales
43-62 subcaudal scales
14-22 dorsal saddles

pic shows different ways of counting dorsal scales

Scale count is fine and good, but remember, a large portion of Colombians count out to BCC.

If your a rookie and don't know what your doing. April even posted the average scale counts. Those are averages. If you have done any scale counting you would know that 99% of the time it is obvious. Yes, his boa is a normal colombian. But lets teach him the real way to figure this out. Lets teach, not judge and condemn. Yes, bci and bcc are close. But when you compare scale count to physical appearance it adds up.

I wasn't judging nor condemning. And it's not a matter of how often you've done it, it's a matter of the range of the snakes. BCC on one side of Colombia, BCI on the other, most Colombians fall somewhere in the middle. Ronne wrote a nice little article on it somewhere. Far from judging or condemning, I was just pointing out that it isn't black and white enough for scale counts to be definitive.
