PayPal's protections aren't all you seem to think they are, Chris.
Right now, David is doing what he has to do to get sales; as it is unlikely that many people would take the risk of just sending him money. With time, that will likely change.

As long as you abide by Paypal's rules they guarantee coverage. Fraud is fraud, and if you can prove it they work with you rather well. They have specific guidelines though, which can screw someone out of their protection plans if not followed, but all in all if you follow their guidelines you're safe.

I'm more protected through Wells Fargo than Paypal though. The bankers know me personally and are willing to jump through hoops to make things right for me if something bad happened.

I have to say this Whitefang: You being on here and being so public about all this in addition to apologizing and being reasonable might be convincing me that you truly are one of the few that can see the error of past mistakes and learn from them. So many people don't ever change (cough...uh, Tom Crutchfield)....

If it's sincere, I do applaud you for that.

My previous comment still stands too though. I still the internet has a long memory and that you will most likely lose sales over all this. Not meaning that as a "stab" mixed in with compliments, but just as a "what is what" comment.

It's good to see a thread go from a Bad Guy post to this... Hopefully you are sincere with the actions your showing now and that this isn't a planned thing where you do good for a few months than switch it up and back to your old tactics... I respect the way your willing to ship first in an attempt to prove you've realized the way you dong things in the past was wrong and are really ready to put in the time and effort in order to restore your name, Keep in mind it takes longer to restore your name once you've ruined it than it does to come in with a clean slate. Also keep in mind that just because your being upfront and honest and shipping first as you KNOW first hand not everyone is a man of their word and it's liable ( not saying it will happen ) but someone may take advantage of that and put you in the same shoe's you've put people in, in the past I hate to see anyone get taken for their money and or animals but keep in mind if and when it does occur ( I would hate to see it happen ) you where once at that end of the rope pulling the tricks. The whole I've changed for the better saying will be put to the test if something like that doe occur and how you handle it will IMO speak volumes for you...

David, I appreciate the changes you are willing to make and your efforts. I however, would recommend that you only ship animals first to other members on here that have a proven track record and/or positive trader rating. Unfortunately, there seem to be a bunch of scammers in this hobby lately. The end of this thread was a huge advertisement stating you were "Willing to Ship Animals Without Payment" You may have inadvertently opened yourself up to the trolls with that one! Again, I would recommend being selective with whom you make that offer to.

David - you've posted a couple of visitor messages in which you apologize to those you've wronged, and said that you want to earn the trust and respect of the membership of this site. I suspect that the people you've stolen from will be unimpressed with your posted apologies. If you want to show yourself to be an upstanding member, worthy of trust and respect, my suggestion would be to step up your game a bit. Make things right with the people you've wronged...pay them back, or replace the animals you stole.
If you don't do that, IMO, those posts aren't worth the time it takes to read them; and you'll always have the shadow of that past blocking you.

I have found out where Ivy the YB is but Lola the Lesser is still missing.

Wow. Let me first say that I come on this forum for amphibian husbandry information and have never posted. I'm not currently in the market for a ball python and will never be for a retic I spent several hours reading every single post on this thread and felt so compelled to respond that I had to figure out my username and reset my password...

First and foremost, David Means: you are a stand-up individual. What you did was so incredibly compassionate and selfless that I am sure it has inspired many others to follow in your footsteps. There are so many others on here that came together here as a community to help do the right thing. Thank you all for being great role models for anyone who may be reading this.

If you are contemplating doing business with the subject of this post- I encourage you to read back to the beginning of this post. If you are unable to go through and find a proven track record, please get in touch with me and I will point you in the direction of some salient posts. I am a firm believer that people can change and I do not want to pass judgement on this individual's current state of affairs. Furthermore, I truly hope he has changed for the better. However, his past crimes revolve around the exploitation of living animals and there is at least one explicit example of neglect listed (dumping a box on a street corner...) I cannot imagine the distress that some people went through after sending their well-cared for snakes off to him. Like I said, he may be a changed man. However, if I were looking to buy, I would have to seriously consider the ethical implications involved in supporting him. There are so many other reputable breeders and owners (many who have also posted on this thread) that you can choose to support.

If you are ever reading this post because you feel that you've been scammed: I am currently living in Hampton Roads VA, at one point the epicenter of these crimes. I would be happy to help you in any way that I can to help recover animals or take appropriate legal action. (disclaimer: I am totally removed from any of the previous incidents). Regardless of if you're dealing with the same person or someone else, please reach out to me. Amazingly good outcomes have emerged from this thread and I would love to help continue pay it forward.
