    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Scott Roscoe, horrible animal conditions. (Ohio buyers and sellers)

Elexis, he's not coming off as rude. You're coming off as defensive. You claimed you didn't have $100 to pay for the animal and said you only had $63 to your name to the guy, did you not? Apparently that wasn't true as he managed to obtain $100 from you.

Anyway, beyond that, I'm not here trying to break you down. The kid obviously had no clue how to keep such an animal. My honest opinion is that 90% or more of retic keepers don't keep them properly.

Of course it was wrong for him to steal extra money from you, but I think it wasn't right of you to falsely poor mouth him in order to obtain the animal more cheaply.

You are coming off as very rude. It's not like I have 100 animals in my house and 5 kids. This is going very far off topic, you're bringing my home life into it, which you obviously have no idea what it's like, how much money we have, how many animals we have etc. I do not appreciate you jumping to such conclusions and making me out to be a bad mother for taking in an animal in need.

I've implied nothing of the sort, you are reading intention and castigation where none was intended. I was trying to make sure I was understanding the situation correctly. Your text messages read like a textbook sob story about having no money, and you went out of your way to specify that you not only had limited funds on your person, but also none in the bank. You say you don't put all your money in the bank. Fine. It escapes me at that point how money that you have, that's not in the bank, isn't available for reptile purchases, because if it is available for day to day expenses it seems like it should be. And if it's not, that's not money that could be used for family should the need arise anyway, hence my original point. THAT'S ALL I WAS SAYING.

Might I suggest that it doesn't exactly put you on a moral high ground when you portray your financial situation in such dire terms to squeeze a seller, even if that seller is undeserving of the animal and mistreating it. I stand by my assertion that if your situation was truly as dire as your text messages made it sound, you probably didn't need to enter this transaction in the first place. If your financial situation is much better than you were making it out to be, which is what you are now implying, then you were being dishonest to provoke a discount, which is something that future sellers might want to know as well. That's all. That's what this forum's for. Nothing personal, it's all about the information.

Lol really? Future sellers? That's why I paid over $300 for my hypo jungle and $300 for my kahl poss jungle? I didn't have any problem paying for HEALTHY animals, I help an animal, try to warn people, and you two turn it back on me like I'm a horrible person. I shouldn't have posted at all. I see this type of thing all the time. It's always the buyers fault. And no we're not rich. I paid for the 2 most expensive snakes I have with money I got from selling my last litter of puppies so I didn't take away from my kids. I have no issue paying full price for healthy animals. When an animal needs help no I'm not going to pay a ton since they let it get that way and not get it any help. If that's wrong then I guess I'm wrong.

If anything their photos misrepresented the animal, when I saw it in person it was much worse than the photo in the ad made it look. So no I didn't want to give them $100. I was trying to get him a day get out. They didn't deserve anything for that animal but I paid all the same to get him out.

No. I don't have another cage to put her in. They want $120 for her and a 20g. I have a 20g long, but that's not adequate. And can't just stick her in the rack with my boas.

He said something about the female, but didn't say she was for sale. I saw the ad yesterday, and i personally believe the only reason her cage looks as good as it does is because I told them how horribly the others were kept. So I think that made them make it look good before taking photos. They didn't let me in the basement, said it was "trashed" and he said "I'll go get him, and disappeared down the stairs". And if I did take her, I would be putting myself over my limit, like they think I already did. Because not only would I be paying for his vet, I would also have to buy another cage and we all know those aren't exactly cheap.

Ok now that " " error was my fault. Can't blame that on my phone lol supposed to say "I'll go get him" not have the other " at the end of the full sentence. Thinking and typing to fast I guess.

Actually there's 2 more females. The baby I saw and a "white phase" female, 2 1/2 - 3 ft kept in a 20g long tank. Someone mentioned it last night and I forgot till now and found the ad. I guess his mom is making him get rid of all the reptiles. Which if she's afraid of them why did she let him get 3 retics in the first place??

You are the the only one who has even insinuated that this was about you being a horrible person. In the future, do try to remember that disagreement doesn't equal condemnation... your blood pressure will thank you, I promise. Being so extremely defensive when someone has a question about something you did isn't conducive to informational discussion. Again, what this forum is actually about.

I apologize and bid farewell to this thread. I suppose my questions got answered after all, lol.

And how was it answered? And when I say last litter, I mean last. I got my male neutered. I'm not out to make money off of puppies. Only had 2 and honestly can't deal with 8-10 puppies taring up my house any more.

If you weren't meaning it to come off that way I apologize. I've just been attacked on here before, been talked down to when I share a different opinion etc.

But that's everywhere I guess. I just don't like people insinuating I took away from my kids, when I didn't and they don't know my situation.

get him out.

That is important. Should vet costs or whatever overwhelm at a later date, you could find a better home for this critter with a more practiced eye, I think, than the person you purchased him from.

I think children in general, no matter what their parents earn, learn something important when they see their parents caring for critters in dire situations. And I think the less affluent the parent, the more meaningful the lesson.

All we knew was what was posted and the texts you shared made your own situation look a lot more dire than you are now explaining. Those of us that have also taken in hardship cases understand how quickly the expenses start piling us, hence the concern.

I'm glad that poor tic is out of that tiny tank and I hope he makes a good recovery for you.

My boys love the snakes, well my 4 yr old, my 1 yr old would just squeeze and pull lol so he doesn't have contact with them and only my 4 yr old does when I'm holding the snake. My hands never leave them, and that's my small ones, they've never interacted with the big girl, or now the retic. Won't allow that till they are much older, but yes kid learn from their parents, which I think is why he was in the situation he was in, mom didn't want to foot the bill for an adequate cage, care, etc. The ad says he's 2 1/2 yrs old, I've seen people post 7 month Olds at 8ft. So not sure what to make of his age. But yea he's going to get the care he needs.

I actually just had him out for a bit, I'm hoping there really isn't a RI, the weezing could be from his nostrils being so restricted, yesterday trying to take a photo there was bubbles from trying to restrain his head, someone said they've had their retic have bubbles when holding the head trying to get away, no RI, so I'm hoping that's not the case but his face still needs looked at. I will post all vet info if it's required or if anyone wants to see it? Like I said I have an awesome vet, he's a specialist, and he's answered all kinds of questions I've had from my dogs to reptiles without ever once telling me to bring them in and we'll talk. They're letting me do a payment plan, so it won't be as bad as say $200 up front. I love my animals and will do whatever it takes to help them, but not at the cost of my kids. If it ever became to much yea he'd go to someone more capable. Right now I'm certain I can handle it.

I have had a couple snakes rub their noses the corner where the tub meets the rack on one of my ARS racks before, causing injury and nostril problems for a time; the resulting gasping/wheezing and some mouth breathing looked like RI but promptly went away when the snakes shed and the nostrils were able to heal.*

It probably couldn't hurt to treat with antibiotics for RI if the vet advises it, even if it is just a precautionary measure.
You ought to get some silver sulfadiazine ointment from the vet to have on hand; it is great for use on external injuries like the rubbed nose. Always follow the vet's advice on when and how to use things like silver sulfadiazine, just to be safe (and responsible).

*for the record: Yes, I solved the problem by propping the tubs up tight to the top with a doorstop;
and yes, one snake is fully recovered, the other will be within a shed or two.

Ok. Yea he goes in the morning. I'm probably going to have him probed too to make sure he is really a he. I hope it's not a RI but my vet will be able to tell.

Does your vet do a culture and sensitivity test to find out which antibiotic would be best suited to fight the bacteria?

Actually I had to reschedule for Monday. It was -2 and like -16 windchill. Monday won't be the best but at least it's above 0 degrees. I just couldn't take the chance going that far with it being that cold.
