In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

To stay on topic, I respect Ben's reputation, but the fact that a bearded dragon was actually used as a weapon. The discussion of his experience with mental health issues, and other's personal experiences are pertinent for shedding light on the situation and his future business...

Sorry, but in the end you banned yourself. The site has it own rules regardless of what "you" thought they ought to be.
For the record, I have done business with BSR many moons ago, and didn't have issues then. As stated before, I don't know anything about mental health and therefore won't comment on it, HOWEVER, I am learning a lot more about it thanks to the discussion going on and no thanks to anyone trying to silence the opinions of others.

I debated whether to contribute to this thread, but I think my experience is relevant and worthwhile to share.
As a Florida resident and private breeder, I did business with Ben several times within the last 10 years. He was a good, legit source for selling wholesale- and his check always cleared. I supplied him with quality animals at a fair price, and it was generally smooth transactions.
We did have a falling out last time we did a deal. Not going into details. But he perceived things his way, and I thought he was way out of line (this thread explains a lot of that). He was my first and only unsatisfied customer. This was a few years ago, and haven't done business or talked to him since.
So I get a voice mail last month at around 4am, and its Ben clearly saying,
"hey f**k ni**er" in a threatening tone and then just turns into incoherent blabber with an evil, manic laughing at the end.
It came out of nowhere, and I have never had a threatening, racist message like that before (I'm white, wife is black). My first instinct was to call the pathetic bastard and have it out. But knowing he is troubled, my wife suggested I chill out and let it go unless it happens again. So that's what I did. I saved the v/m and never contacted him, nor heard from him since.
You can attribute that message to drugs or psychotic episode or whatever. Any way you cut it, its sad to see how far he has fallen. I do believe he is dangerous, unpredictable, and needs to be incarcerated/institutionalized for his and the public safety.
I'm not telling people not to do business with him or his entity. I'm just saying this is what transpired with me. Admittedly it has hurt my sales not having him as a local outlet. But its one headache I will readily trade.

Sure Moron , So everybody with Mental illness can abuse harmless animals ,first lizards torturing them to they are life less(dead)throwing projectiles at humans, That's most deffinetly Someone's son ,daughter think about it . Probally young kids. NOT exceptable , No Excuses. A person I went to grade school with queit, nice, shy respectful. Developed bipolar disorder, but had a drug problem. drug addict, beheaded this own sweet mother. I known since I was a kid ,in my 30's now.Sweetest lady good bless her sole. Her 35 year old Scumbag ls(stay at home son) LOL..WTF beheaded this mom , dragged her naked body on the street , kicked her head 45 feet. Across the street . Put her topless body on a road in front of their duplex. Then he lived by a rail road station, Jumped in front of an express train doing 70 mph,double decker train , traveling from Penn Station. Manhaten .Look it up ,it happened on Halloween, 10/31/2014 very weird...Farmingdale, New York. Mother beheaded by son .Made nation News.. So don't tell me that is is o.k ..exceptable behaver. Hell has a Hot Seat for Him. You should live a healthy ,positive life and don't hang out with these people...Im a New Yorker and I see a person abusing an animal. No doubt about it. Reading some of these posts I'm in absolute amazement. having a degree in psychology andworking in the field I have seen situations like this too many times. To whoever said this person needs incarcerated/institutionalized I disagree. The fact of the matter is bi-polar was/is probably the base diagnosis. as far as any of us knows that may not even be a diagnosis from an actual doctor he is seeing. also if diagnosed and has an attorney you would think in a prior arrest it would have been brought to the courts attention. Also the drug abuse is probably a way of him self medicating if not getting treatment (keyword probably). This man needs mental health counseling and proper medication. As for on a business point of view maybe he should sit back and let his business be managed by someone and just over see the books and so on. like also stated there is a lot of people who have mental illness that keep animals not an excuse.
Ben didn't choose to be ill. I hope that if you ever find yourself in the same position, someone reaches out to help, and doesn't kick you while you are down the way it appears you are doing to Ben.
If you make someone cry who does not realize what he is doing, you haven't helped the person, you haven't helped past or future critters. Why would you do that?

Apparently, the business is being managed without him while he is in jail, However, the big question for me is how his mental illness and problems will affect the business since it is his name on the door. Regardless of who is running the business now, it is going to be affected by the animal abuse charge, his reputation, and his public profile. I think that anyone who is interested in doing business with BSR and who reads this thread has the best grasp of what seems like an obvious practical separation between Ben and BSR, but not all of their potential customers visit the BOI.

Frank Gioielli, I half wish life was as black and white for me as it is for you. It would sure simplify things. But the richest part of life for me is the grey areas. We are talking about a man whose reputation prior to his fall included what appears to be respect and passion for animals, though I admit that I am not close enough to the situation to know this for certain. I have to rely on what appears to be the impression of the clear majority of people who have done business with him. So when a man does a complete 180 like this, or when a son beheads his own mother, I can't help but feel conflicted over what seems like an obvious psychotic break. How do you think either of these men will feel when the meds kick in and they understand what they have done? Will they not be in hell on earth and isn't mental illness a hell in and of itself?

Nope.
That said, my only real concern, if I were planning to do business with BSR, is if Ben retains the power and authority as the owner of BSR to toss out whoever is managing it now on a whim. If you look up BSR's state corporate filings, Ben's name is still on everything, it's still his company, and he should still control it, though from jail that would be difficult.
At some point Ben will be cut loose, though with luck not until after a medical evaluation and/or appropriate treatment for his mental issues. For his sake I hope that if he's offered voluntary commitment that he accepts it, as the consequences for involuntary commitment are much harsher.
