In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Longer Look Inside Reptiles by Mack, from PETA

I think that PETA is a terrible organization and definitely hate them as much as anyone here. However, doesn't it trouble anyone else that RBM has never really denied any of the accusations? Even when the initial video came out, they didn't try to say that the video was fabricated or anything, they simply said that the condition of the animal was "not consistent with their standards" and gave a list of the way problems "should" be handled. There were definitely a lot of animals in really bad condition, and just because PETA is run by scumbags doesn't necessarily mean what is seen in the video isn't true.

I just would like to say I deeply regret posting the original video a while back here on fauna. All that it did was ad attention. I was just so blown away at the moment. Since then I have educated myself a bit on PETA. I've never seen an animal organization so against animals before. There lies, cover ups, deception and spins are just disgusting.
I've been thinking about this since I initially posted and like I said I deeply regret doing it.
I would think only devil worshipers would support an organization such as PETA.
Atleast these few threads are here on fauna to open up people's eyes. That would be the one thing good that has come out of this situation.
Don't beat yourself up, the first video made the rounds really fast on Facebook and in other forums. If you hadn't posted it here then someone would have - and as you pointed out, it was debunked and the true horror stories about PETA got told.

At any rate a Google search on "PETA VDACS Reports" will tell the story for anyone who cares to look at the stats on PETA's high kill shelter.

I was also bothered by the response RBM made.

Reminder to all - name calling is NOT allowed, regardless of how we may or may not feel about PETA and their efforts to ban keeping of any animals and their fight against the reptile industry specifically.COLOR]

Apologies for the name calling, guess I got too caught up trying to show I'm not on PETA's side, haha. Is there a way to edit that out of my post?

Lucille,
I agree 110%!

Ethical is unquestionably, VERY questionable....

Termination, no question about it!!

PETA should be abolished, they are nothing more than MURDERERS of defenseless critters!

I agree with "Ethical" being very questionable.
Perhaps People for the Egregious Termination of Animals would work better ... or something along those lines. ;)

....

Regardless of the unreliability of PETA, how are we continuously ignoring the deplorable conditions of these imports? We preach about being a good example of a reptile keeper while ignoring one on the biggest stains on the hobby.

I am certain that there is room for improvement.
However, the questions are, just how much improvement is actually needed vs. how much has PETA "over dramatized"? How much did PETA "cherry pick", to show, vs. what is the general norm in/of/around the entire facility? How many of those animals, that were shown, recently arrived at the facility vs. having been there for any length of time? Plus, several other questions.
For the real truth, the "messenger/s" *has* to be something/someone other than PETA &/or their ilk.

....

PETA is untrustworthy, end of story. There is no denying that some of those animals were in bad condition, but some are perfectly explainable with no abuse involved (e.g. feeder green/brown anoles arriving dead but being laid out as if they died at the facility instead of during shipping). As Deb mentioned, it's about the messenger, and PETA has cried wolf far too many times for me to trust a word coming out of their mouths.

Good point, creative editing can take a perfectly benign situation and make it look as if the subject is an animal abuser who should be locked away for life.

There are many Fauna members all over the U.S. Those of you who know wholesalers in Ohio might ask them for a review, since there is an apparent open invitation to them to stop by RBM at any time without an appointment.
PETA is such an unethical organization in my opinion, the video is meaningless.

Why did they target Mack? I don't know. But I do feel strongly that if the Fauna community had not shown its usual thoughtful approach and instead swallowed PETA's accusations hook line and sinker, that the overall reptile business structure would have seen many more businesses targeted in an attempt to systematically destroy them.

It would be nice to hear a review just to clear the air, so if you know a wholesaler in Ohio, please ask them to stop by Mack's.

Its so hard to know what to believe anymore. I have boughten things from RBM and was satisfied but Im sick of big breeders who keep huge amounts of animals and cant care for them properly.
I will stick with small time breeders who name their animals.Usually those are the ones that really care about them. Its still can all go wrong easily enough but more likely to at least check them all daily.

PETA is a business, and like any business they must be able to sell goods/services in order to bring in revenue and stay viable. PETA is classified as a non-profit organization, but the rules still apply.

Business ---uses marketing to ----sell services/goods = Profit
PETA-------uses marketing to---- sell services/goods = Tax Free Profit & Donations

PETA ------uses shock value videos/advertising to-----sell merchandise & warm fuzzies to the public = Donations & Profits
PETA employs a sales force to promote their videos, one of them came here: Colin Henstock. Rather than call them sales people, they label them as "Investigations Specialist". Notice how he was willing to push the video, but the moment he was asked a question he disappeared.

PETA, like any smart non-profit, will maintain a database of all previous donors. These donors will need to be approached at least yearly if not more frequently in order to bring in continual donations. Since PETA essentially is in the business of selling "warm fuzzies", they need to produce continued/new "shocking" videos to tug at the heart strings of their donors. PETA knows that the more shocking the video, the better the donations are for them. They have zero incentive to find anything except "shocking" during their hidden camera extravaganzas.

Approaching donors over the same issue, over the same company, over the same kind of animals would grow old real quick. How many times am I willing to donate to save minks? But if I'm approached with a fresh new target, say chickens, suddenly my donation wallet is opening up again.

Why target RBM? It was only a matter of time before they targeted a "Herp" company. I would suppose because of it's size and the ability to hide their "observers", RBM simply appears to have drawn the short straw.
