In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Inquiry Underground Reptiles: Sick animal inquiry?

The bottom line is that they will no longer offer water snakes for sale.

hopefully, UR will come to there senses and deal with it correctly. Right now under these conditions I am sure they are quite aware of whats going on.
If coming to their senses involves discontinuing the sale of field-collected water snakes, then I think it's safe to say that Underground still hasn't found any sense. They're still selling them on their website. I guess they'd decided that not listing them here on Fauna would be good enough. Out of sight, out of mind.

Dan, websites are often horribly inaccurate. In fact the one time I tried to purchase there, I had to cancel it because the website inventory no longer really existed. I'd love the CH redtail rats they have up for sale now, but until I know more about what is or is not going on with the SFD situation, I am passing.

A possibility I'd considered. However, if trying to put forth an effort to do "the right thing," it seems unlikely that they wouldn't have managed to get the listings successfully removed from their own website, despite managing to clear them out of this one. Considering the source, I'm inclined stick with my suspicions.

They may still have them on there site listed, but i doubt they would sell any. Its just as easy to say that there site will be updated, or that they no longer have any in stock.

If we're talking about a matter of "sense," it doesn't really make any sense to continue to list animals that one has no intention of selling. I don't want to know badly enough to add a credit card and place an order with them, but it did allow me to add one to the cart and proceed to checkout. Having them listed doesn't seem to be a sensible way to distance themselves from being associated with potentially tainted animals, assuming that your optimism isn't extremely misplaced, and they actually intend to do just that. :shrug01:

I can understand not commenting while consulting an attorney, but at this point it seems to have gone beyond that. When PETA put plants in Reptiles by Mack to neglect animals and then tape those same animals, RBM released a public comment pretty quickly. This seems to be a flat out attempt to pretend the incident did not exist. Heck, even a comment to say we are testing, euthanizing, or denying the allegations would be appropriate.

Thank you to Lucille for contacting Dr. Allender; thank you to Dr. Allender for taking the time to educate us. There are several companies, not just Underground Reptiles, that sell both wild caught and captive bred snakes. The same employees (I assume) feed, maintain, clean the waste out of the cages of both wild caught and captive bred. Cross contamination from wild snakes to captive bred would be a concern to potential buyers. It would give these buyers peace of mind to know that the companies have some sort of procedure in place that eliminates (if possible) cross contamination.

I just looked at UR's site and they have Nerodia fasciata for sale, described as "field collected". $4.99.

I have a wholesale account with UR, their list is updated daily and as of today's update they have listed "assorted water snakes" available. I haven't checked their website today to see if they are on there or not.

I haven't read every word of this thread but has it been made clear that this can or can't be spread from species to species? If so which post # is it?
Would like to find out whether the SFD positive test results are actually real.

I guess I could see a mod choosing to give an infraction for posting information that originated with a banned member, but the official test results seem like something that really should have already been made a part of this thread - no matter who does the actual posting.

Absolutely and thank you. I was hoping Joe's ban had expired; it is possible that he will not return regardless. Note that the results were extremely high.
I see no response as of yet from UR.

Yeah, I saw that as a real possibility. Although it was apparently not universally appreciated, the post I'd replied to made me decide that it was pretty clearly necessary. Aside from possibly Underground, no one really benefited from their continued absence.

Incorrect.
As I stated, earlier, they are still selling water snakes.
As evidenced by, for example, this screenshot.
My hope is that they have taken some sort of measure to ensure that the water snakes, that they are selling, do not carry SFD.

Having them on there website means nothing, I just recently ordered 6 items from EBAY. and they processed the order. Debited my PayPal account. 3 days later i received an email indicating that they only had one in stock. Advertising is one thing, Lets see if you could call them and place an order. That would be another thing.

Regardless, whether you like it or not, they have no legal obligation not to sell whatever they want unless the health authorities decide otherwise. You really should move on and get over it. Unless i am mistaken we are dealing with 1 snake that tested positive.

I dont know what UR is going to do about it, but unless you are in a position to take some legal action yourself, we really dont need to be notified with a screen shot, what they are selling unless it involves some legal issues.

After 33 pages on this matter, it is no longer a concern unless you are the recipient of a sick snake purchased by them. They will still continue to advertise on this site, as well as Kingsnake. Maybe not water snakes, but for sure other snakes of greater value.
