In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Reptster.com experience with show sponsorship not good

How about the security when the end user is entering their CC info into his website? Is that secure? That is what I'm referring to.

That would be considered storage of information -- which is why I asked what the law required as far as the storage of the personal info and did anyone read the TOS or fine print as to what Reptster guaranteed or would be held liable as far as credit card information :shrug01:

Where is the TOS and fine print? I know that the privacy policy page is blank.

I have just been informed that Reptster has paid Repticon for the past Columbia Tote Bags. He owes us nothing at this point

Is this something that just happened or did you just get your facts straight?

Ya got me. I am sure it's in some of those FTC documents. Regardless of whether the transaction occurs offline or in real time, it would seem from what I read that the use of SSL is required to secure the credit card information. I haven't done a transaction so I can't say whether they have a certificate or not. Somebody would have to check. There would be a little lock in the bottom right and the page would have https at the top.

I just went to the billing info page and it does have the little lock and the https.

He IS storing it since ANYTIME you check your account billing information, all of your CC info appears. You do not need to be shipping anything. Once you enter it for the first shipment, it stays there for you to see (and any hacker or anyone with admin access) to see until YOU go in and delete all of it.

That is a piss poor way to house peoples financial information and he needs to fix that ASAP.

Cathy, when was the SC show that he just paid for? I'm curious on what the time line is between services rendered and payment. Was there a valid reason provided for his delay in payment that you can share with us?

The show was this past June 21 & 22. No reason was given to my knowledge.

I am aware of that -- but as just mentioned the site does have authenticated security on it -- there is the little lock on the bottom of your browser.

It was implied that he was breaking the law -- if so proof should be provided. Is he required by law to encrypt the user billing information? :shrug01:

If it's just a matter of your comfort then you have the option not to use the service.

If he has stated that there is some security in place that there isn't then that should be addressed as well.

I just logged in over there and was able to delete my information including my cc information. Now if it is still somewhere still in there system I will probably never know but at least it isn't out in the open saved in my profile.

Also I sent a message to delete my account so we'll see how long that goes but I would love to find out if you update the information does it delete your old information or just file it away somewhere.

Tosha... why are you ok with the fact that any staff member over at RIPster has access to your CC number. If that number is not encrypted then it is accessable to everyone.

I used to work at an internet company... and all our CC info was encrypted... Only a select few in the company could access it. With that company... when you placed your order the CC info and order was sent to us... we then processed the CC by using a secure linkup to the authorization company. Even our webpages were secure and no CC data was ever stored on the web for all to see.

To be honest I don't know how encryption software works -- I would assume if an employee had access to the company computer or programs he would have access to the encryption software and know how to get the info anyway -- again I could be so wrong I don't know.

For what it's worth I've been a victim of identity theft and years later I'm still suffering the consequences -- but I've covered my butt on the front endto protect against fraud.

SSL
(pronounced as separate letters) Short for Secure Sockets Layer, a protocol developed by Netscape for transmitting private documents via the Internet. SSL uses a cryptographic system that uses two keys to encrypt data − a public key known to everyone and a private or secret key known only to the recipient of the message. Both Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer support SSL, and many Web sites use the protocol to obtain confidential user information, such as credit card numbers.By convention, URLs that require an SSL connection start with https: instead of http:.

above is quoted from http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/S/SSL.html

Reptster does use SSL. This includes the user billing information. Here is a screenshot-

I see you had to white out the CC info... see that should be just *'s with maybe the last 4 visible

As to your question Tosha... there were only a few of us at the company that could access that area. Its all about protecting the customers sensitive info... and in this case... the CC #. We had customer service personel that had to transfer calls to the billing department cause they couldnt answer which CC was used.

Look at it this way... what if Kelli was checking on things at work... and a co worker walked behind her while she was on THIS screen. If the co-worker has a photographic memory and wants to mess her over... he now has her whole CC number. The first number tells him whether its a visa, mastercard, amex, or discover. The other info he would need is up on the screen as well.

Nice to see that all it took was 700 plus posts and 50,000 views to get him to pony up

Just for the record -

I spoke to Cathy tonight, and she said Mr. Young paid Repticon the remaining balance owed to them by PayPal. I find that very interesting since he said in this very thread that he didn't owe Repticon anything, that him and Billy were "ok" and that he had no idea what anyone was talking about. My question is - why would he pay them if he didn't owe them.

Also, for the record -

I have yet to hear anything from Mr. Young. We are still open to discussion with him as always. And, as always, we will post if we have any contact or a resolution is made.

I was only pointing out that Reptster does use SSL. It was brought up in a previous post that they could possibly be breaking the law since they were not using SSL, and I wanted to point out that Reptster does use SSL. That is all.

As far as allowing them access to a credit card #... that is something we ALL do ALL the time when we use our credit or debit cards to pay for something over the telephone.
