In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

What is really crazy about this whole thing is She is the only one coming forward.. If this "new virus" could kill of Jenns animals that fast. Why havent we seen More MUCH more of this going around?

Simple enough......especially after what happened when Jen came forward....would you?

:iagree:
I was just trying to think of a tactful way of saying the same thing.

Mr. Lerer,
Ms. Harrison put down every snake she owned including colubrids that showed no sign of a problem. She also destroyed the enclosures they were kept in even though....... Aw never mind, suffice it to say Ms. Harrison care a great deal about the animals and wished to avoid any risk that the problem could be spread through her actions.

Cat, Hell yea.. And you cant tell me other people wouldnt. To many Blabber mouths in the bussiness to keep anything quite.

Actually....when YOU say you would, I tend to believe you.

However....for the most part, it would be pretty simple for the majority of folks to keep it quiet. Do you know that I don't have it in my collection right now?

Thank goodness, I most certainly do NOT...but do you honestly think you would know for sure how many small-time hobbiests like myself would have no trouble whatsoever keeping it hidden? Or perhaps wouldn't know what caused it, and blame it on something else? It's terrifying, if you ask me.

Hey John,

Thanks for the reply and Jen...that was a very noble thing that you did to avoid the potential spread of the virus. Since it is something new to the doctors and other professional people one would have no idea how long the incubation period would be, what initial symptoms would be, how easily transmittable it would be and so on.

I know that Tim Bowles of Snowballs Ball Pythons said he also got a snake from Wyatt that got very sick and died...and he even sued the guy and his girlfriend over it. Jen, do you know if he lost more animals also? He said he was having tons and tons of babies this past season but only showed people a couple of them on forums which is very unlike him. Tim is usually someone who will brag and show off animals breeding, ovulating, and so on, but we also saw almost no pictures of adults from him. Any idea if he had more losses that he is letting people know about since he sued Wyatt for more than twice the amount of the price of the single snake he got from him?

Most people know that Bowles scammed me and sold me a snake that he knew was sick and it ended up having Paramyxovirus and other stuff...old news. I am wondering if history is repeating itself with him because he is far less than honest :shrug01:

Matt, I honestly don't know. Tim sent me a link to the thread on his forum where he talked about suing Wyatt and his girlfriend because he wanted to let me know that the window is still open for me to do the same thing. Other than that, I haven't talked to him -- nor anyone else in the reptile world, I pretty much just left this whole hobby/community in the past. I don't have anything against anyone (save for 1-2 jerks), but it brings back too many emotions to talk to people who still get to do this.

Jas, it didn't happen "quickly". Some got infected and died within 24-48 hours, some took months. Overall, it took about 10 months from start to finish for my collection to be totally devastated and unsavable. I don't call that quick. As far as other people coming forward -- there were 2 others. A vet in Colorado, and a small time keeper. Both cases were posted in the thread. They both lost animals -- the vet lost 2 as of the last time I talked to him (months ago) and the small time keeper lost 7 total (also last talked to him months ago). They may have lost more since then, I don't know. There have been a lot of other people that purchased from Wyatt -- but after how I was crucified and after what I ultimately lost, I doubt anyone else would have the desire to come forward and be open about it if they were suffering illnesses/losses...even if it meant being a detriment to the hobby and other keepers. They probably don't want to lose out on all the money they have invested like I did, and would rather suffer quietly and still make what they can off their animals. I wouldn't put that past anyone -- after all, Wyatt did it. He dumped his collection within weeks after I first came out, to get what he could out of everything.

I put down pretty much every animal I had, even non-symptomatic ones like my corns and kings and rainbow boas that had never shown any signs of it being communicable past the ball python species. I decided it was best in the long run to not risk it. I kept my one solitary pet, my original ball python Spoon that I started with 5 years ago. I also wound up keeping the g-stripe that had been here on breeding loan through the whole mess, because his original owner couldn't take him back but didn't want him put down. I destroyed and got rid of every bit of housing, caging, etc. (aside from some unopened medications and accessories from my leopard geckos that had nothing to do with the snakes).

However, after months of doing just fine and eating well, it looks like Spoon and the g-stripe didn't make it through unscathed after all. The virus must have remained dormant in them, and I think the weather drop might have spurred it into being active. I don't know. But they stopped eating 2 weeks ago and are showing the very early symptoms now, and I will ultimately have to put them down. I'm not going to let them suffer. That will be it for me -- I will never own another snake again.

I guess I would have to e-mail Dr. Jacobsen at UF to see if he did any further research on the samples he has or if he mapped out the DNA on the virus and figured out what family it came from yet. Part of me really doesn't care any more, but I would need it if I actually do go after Wyatt.

That's terrible Jen...I really feel bad for you. Going after Wyatt may make you feel better but probably is not worth your while. Believe me Bowles lucked out because Wyatt's girlfriend was a no show in small claims court...nothing more. It's a default judgment that he'll never see a penny of anyway. He sued Wyatt out of greed not because it was the right thing to do. Bowles has had problems with his collection before (Paramyxovirus) and has lost animals because of it so his current issue he had at his place was most likely completely unrelated.

For what it costs do get the virus mapped out you are looking at a minimum of tens of thousands of dollars because the university would have to put a someone on it full time...not an easy thing to do.

As for others coming forward...tough call. I guarantee there are people who have had viruses in their collections who just thought their animal died of a resp infection or something like that. Not everyone takes the time to have these things investigated. If I didn't take the emerald tree boa that Bowles sold me to the vet, I would have never known it had Paramyxovirus...and I am sure the one he sold me just before that one had it too.

I wish you the best and take it easy

Joe, I don't think he was ever gone. He claimed he was in Iraq after filing for bankruptcy, but he was magically able to sign for his certified mail when served papers, hire a lawyer to respond to Tim Bowles' lawsuit against him and Kristen, and show up in court. Hmmmm...

That still cracks me up...Tim Bowles suing over a snake he boasted was one of the best animals he ever bought...weighed 400 grams more that she was supposed to, eats like a pig, and got a clean bill of health from his top notch vet...yet she mysteriously died sometime after a nice stay at Bowles place...and it's all supposed to be Wyatt's fault?

Did Bowles ever post reports of his necropsy Jen? I mean something legit like a scanned vet document?

Tim didn't post anything in the 2-page thread, but I have no idea if it was ever posted anywhere else. I haven't looked that much, I only read the court info.

Joe, according to court documents and e-mails he sent Tim in November, all of his info is still the same. Here is all the contact info he's used over the last 18 months:
