In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

PA Northwestern Berks Reptile Expo Feb. 28th

ROTFL
I was wondering when you'd chime in.
These are the best & the worst shows in the region.
With some luck, I'll be vending at the late April show.

That they are...so much as I hate some parts of it, I'm sure I'll be back.
Probably in June?

It is pretty sad, though - - This is the 3rd time that I've taken time off to go to the show, and decided that I just don't want to deal with the lines, parking, and crowded set up. I used to LIVE for the Hamburg show. Have I really gotten that old, or have things changed that much???

Well, I don't know how old you are Harald, but I'm late 30's and quite honestly I was thinking the exact same thing while I was there. The past two years it has been so crowded it's very difficult to even see anything sometimes. Let alone the people that bump into you, stop in the middle and don't move, or rudely jump in front of you and push you out of the way. I'm not even one that usually minds crowds, but my patience was seriously tested quite a few times.

However, it's all worth it to me. I've learned to get there extra early (yes, to stand in line in the frigid cold for an hour..ugh), have a list of exactly what I want and get that stuff first and then spend the rest of the time enjoying looking around.

You gotta have a strategy man, otherwise, forget it! (It also doesn't hurt to give that rude person the hairy eyeball and the look of death when they get outta hand! :reddevil: he he)

Hamburg is an awesome show, but I feel kind of the same way. Unless I have a table of my own, or am looking for something in particular.. I don't think I'd be venturing up there to stand outside for 45+ minutes! (And I'm only maybe.. an hour drive away, if traffic is bad) If my friends up there have something they really need to show me... I am just as happy seeing pictures on my e-mail from inside my cozy house, Especially had the snow we got today, come on Saturday instead. Nooo Thank You! :)

Had a great show sold most of my leos and got to talk to Brian&Lori Barczyk:bow01: off and on all day.Was set up right behind me ,he has some really amazing stuff. All in all it was a good day .Oh i picked up two new animals ,just had to get something.:D

And that is the reason I know I will be back as a vendor (or will at least try to get a table periodically). For all the very real complaints, at least I sell animals there. At the other show I do, while it is a much better venue (climate controlled, well spaced, etc), I can honestly say that I have never sold a single animal...whether I've had my own table, or shared space. Pretty disappointing, since it is so well attended (not to mention relatively close to home).

I always have a plan: I follow a preset course at the quickest pace I can manage with the crowds - picking out items of potential interest. During the first pass, I rarely stop for a closer look at anything - unless it is too good to risk it being sold before I get back around. Having identified the possibilities, I go back to inspect the animals and get pricing info (purchase, if merited). This portion is usually done in order of priority, but sometimes I just wander...depends on how much time I am willing to spend. I've can be in and out (with purchases) in as little as 45 minutes...as long as I don't have too much trouble getting the vendors' attention; but I usually spend about twice that much time and do a little visiting.
I think part of my repeated decision to not bother comes back to the fact that there just isn't much I would consider buying. And, despite my random thoughts of picking up some live feeders, it just isn't worth the 3.5-4 hr trip (one way) to pick up some rodents.

nope - maybe June...I'm not much to see, though, lol.
And, if you've been doing that show for any amount of time, you've probably already seen me ;)

LOL I do the same thing! It works out the best that way. Also, I can see why you would be hesitant to make the trip if it's 3.5-4hr trip one way. It's about an hour for me one way, which is what makes it more likely for me to go again.

Hopefully, we will see you in June! Preferably with a table! Your going to have to wear a t-shirt with your name on it so we can come purchase some goodies from ya! ;)

Well guess we'll see you in june,I hope you get a table, lately if you don't pay in advance it is almost impossible to get in there.

It's up in the air whether I will have enough hatched and ready by then anyway (I usually don't) - once I know for sure, I'll think about a table. I usually hit to the June show, just for the sake of going.

The summer shows are better for going and walking around, selling gets slow. There's lots of little hottties walkin around too!:dgrin:

I rarely vend Hamburg during the summer - too hard to keep the critters cool. It gets HOT in that place.
I usually shoot for Sept.

I am gonna step out on a limb here and voice my personal opinion. Hamburg has been around for a very long time and is well established. I have attended this show since its beginning and have become very close with both many a spectators and vendors alike. Over the years I have heard and listened to all of the good things as well as the bad. There seems to be a very mutual consensus between many a vendor and patron alike. And it is as follows

Everyone agrees that The business has definitely grown in mass #'s over the years, the show has become extremely crowded in all ways possible, has become unsafe and unsanitary in many ways, parking has become a nightmare, and the venue itself is just old and plain outdated. People still attend in #'S because they have no where else to go, but I think things are a changin. I visited this new Carlisle show, and it has alot of potential and alot more to offer then Hamburg as a venue, if they could somehow add venomous to this show I think they would give Hamburg a real run for the money.

Now, please keep in mind that these are only MY opinions, but I think in time as this business continues to gain in popularity, Hamburg will have no choice but to either look for a new venue, or limit the number of people it lets through the doors. Either way, many a people are gonna be miffed. The local traffic, local law enforcement, and fire marshalls will eventually step in and mandate changes.

The only thing I have to say as far as safety goes is they did make a new rule this time that any animal that was leaving the building had to have a paid sticker on it, to prevent theft. And they were serious about it, if it fell off, you had to go get another one, no excuses. It was actually a bit of a pain, and caused quite a jam up at the door, but if it saved one or two animals from being stollen, I guess it was worth it :/ ?

Actually, the fire marshals were there! They were complaining due to too many people. Also, there was some sort of group there looking to see if anyone was selling baby turtles. They were checking inside and the parking lot.

It gets ungodly hot in there in the summer. You are right, you feel like you might pass out. It's pretty bad when uromastyx look like they are too hot and they are panting. That's with no heat lamps on too! I agree, dead of summer is a killer there!

I have to agree, they do need to do something as it has been getting out of hand with crowd control. They need a bigger building for the most part. I was glad to see they have implemented some security, however, the first time we left they checked our packages but then a different person at the door didn't check the second time we left. And you are right, there really WASN'T anywhere else to go. Now that carlisle has opened up, you may be right in your assessment. I know I want to go check it out.

Well, if that is so, that the fire marshalls were there, then im sure they will soon be in touch with the promoter about making any needed changes. Bottom line is the trade and the show are growing in popularity. Meaning that the lines and the wait to get in are going to continue to grow, the already overcrowded parking area, and congested walk down the isles will only get worse, making it even more unsafe for vendors and patrons. Those with little kids suffer the most. Vendors have no space behind there tables, most cant even set in the chairs provided because there is no room. It si rediculous sometimes.

In May! Well, looks like the ball is in motion, lets see where it rolls. My bet is on Carlisle. I have seen alot of the Hamburg vendors at the Carlisle show. Now I am curious as to how many of the HOT vendors will be signing up. I cant wait for this weekends show, but now I am really anxious about May's show. WOO HOO !!!!!
