    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Karma

I have a question about the karma as well. If I have I think 8 Karma, how do I know if the 3 people that left me Karma were all good, or some bad/some good? Is there any way of telling how many points you got from the individual...?

It says 18 points total on the user cp, but my karma power is 8. I guess the 8 is just a rating, but I how do I know who gave me how many points out of the 18?

You should be able to see who gave you the Karma when viewing your User CP, look for where it says Latest Karma Received. You may have to click on the arrow to show them if it is closed.

The number you have (8) is your Karma power which is the amount you can give to others, or half (4) were you to give (actually take) someone Negative Karma (when it was activated. Rich just turned off the negative Karma giving abilities due to misuse) We were all started off with 10 points which you said you are now at 18, which means you have received 8 additional points.

Your Karma power (your number 8) increases by 1 with every 500 posts made. It also increases by 1 with every 100 points you receive from others (so when your 18 increases to 100 your 8 will become a 9) You also receive and additional point for every year you are a member.

Many of us here have, and will turn down people that we feel are not suited for our "babies", regardless of how much money is offered.

Many people here do searches on potential buyers, as well as sellers.

When you look at your UserCP page, you'll see a list of karma comments left for you by others. Each one has a little colored box associated with it. A green box means it's positive karma, a red box means it was negative, and a gray box means the person leaving the comment had no karma power and your score did not change from their input.

To know how many points a specific user has, look at their mini-profile to the left of any post in a thread..and you'll see the "karma power" number that you asked about and that DAND explained. :)
 
Ok, so someone left me karma and its red....and sarcastically says welcome back....im guessing that person left me negative karma for no good reason?

I should clarify, I have 3 comments, 1 green, 1 purple/blue, and 1 red. Is that right that someone else left me negative karma like that?
 
The Karma rating should be done away with!It serves no purpose.The trader rating is the important one,itsd like Ebays feedback rating.All the Karma system does is give the people who don't agree with you someplace to cry about it,which I could care less about!The trader rating tells me about the persons business ethics,thatsd what counts!
 
So this guy, who sells bearded dragons took it upon himself to just give me negative karma because he felt like it, even though I have never had any business dealings with him? Because I'm competition? Thats bull. Should this warrant a bad guy thread on the BOI?
 
This really bothers me because I have always tried to do the right thing by others, and have always taken great pride in the relationships I have had with customers/peers. If someone were to leave say a negative trader rating due to not being satisfied with me, I can understand that,,,,but the negative karma thing I don't get and was obviously abused by this other person that left it for me.

Kind of sounds like what you are doing due to being in the negative. Your negative standing reflects you negative attitude and postings. We talked about this when we spoke on the phone John. If you step back before you hit the submit button and not let words from others get under your skin and you post calmly there won't be any reason for someone to give you negative Karma other than their disagreement with your post. Everybody is entitled to their opinion and theirs will not always be in agreement with yours, that's life.

No, it does not warrant a bad guy thread. While it may be his opinion your post deserved negative Karma or it may have been vindictive behavior, either way, if you watch what you post and how you post it you should be able to stay in the green regardless of the occasional person who disagrees with you for whatever reason.

BTW, purple means the person did not have 100 posts and has no Karma power. It reflects neither as positive or negative to your points. The comment, if left, would let you know what they thought of your post.

All I am saying is that the Karma system allows people who have no business dealings with each other,but don't agree with each other the ability to antagonize with each other.Hey I like vanilla,you like chocolate,doesn't mean I am wrong and you are right,it just means we disagree that should not warrant bad karma!
As far as me being neg.,I would still do away with it if I was positive,Karma is about peoples opinions of each other,not the facts like the trader ratings,just my opinion!
 
Only the negative karma option was taken away. Members can still leave positive karma. Or if they don't have any karma power, they can leave neutral karma.

Sorry that I have had to treat some members just like the children they have been behaving like.

Anyone can still post abusive and inflammatory comments in even the positive karma, however. When that happens, and IF the recipient reports such abuse to myself or the mods, the person abusing that system and this site in such a manner will be dealt with to try to curtail that practice.

Oh come on John let's be honest. The post I gave you negative Karma for was not due to a differing of opinions and you know it. Why don't you quote the post here that I gave you the negative Karma for and see if you can honestly say it was for a differing of opinions. How many other people gave you negative Karma for the exact same post?

Karma and trader rating are two different things yet they both tell a story about the person who received them.

Also that karma rating has nothing to do with the cleanliness of my facilities,the quality of my shipping packaging or the health and wellness of my animals! Maybe it just means that I am not the easiest person to get along with,but it is no reflection on my business ethics.

You are correct...it has nothing to do with your animals, how you keep them, how quickly you ship, etc.
All it has to do with is your posts here. That point has been made repeatedly.

You are correct,so why should anyone receive bad Karma,just because they have a differrent opinion than yours or anyone elses.It promotes hard feelings between members who have probably never met!And it is being abused,not against me,but against others!

Yes, It does sound fair. Just as fair as you interjecting a statement in a thread that had nothing to do with the topic in the first place which certainly sounded like it could have been directed at me. As I told you on the phone, I don't run in a group, follow anyone and that I do my own thing. Your accusation was wrong, not even on topic and yes too deserved negative Karma.

As I said, I had to go back and search other posts by you to get an idea why you would have responded as you did. Your post was negative and deserving of the negative Karma it received. So was the next one you directed towards me, though I didn't ding you again.

I'm sure you got dinged by others for one or both of these posts. They were confrontational and deserved negative Karma being negative posts. Odd how when we spoke on the phone you apologized for posting as you did, acknowledging it was wrong of you yet you are now trying to say you didn't deserve negative Karma.

And who in their right mind would go into any transaction with someone who is difficult to get along with? Someone prone to go off the handle and carry grudges is not someone who I would want to do business with and I highly doubt that I am alone in this kind of thinking.
 
The whole karma thing was supposed to be for shits and giggles. I am completely and utterly amazed at how many people over the years have gotten their panties in such a wad over it.

Which then immediately makes me think, "have these people ever experienced any kind of adversity or real problems in their lives"? Fauna Karma..... such a petty damn thing of absolutely no consequence to get all worked up over. It leaves me shaking my head and muttering incoherently to myself..... as well as completely reinforcing my notion that humans in general just plain suck.
