In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

About the BOI and it's future here...

Option #3 sounds good to me. I think if only paying members can post and view the BOI it will cause more members to pay so they can keep up with the latest scammers/good guys. Just my 2 cents! In fact, I have been with faunna for awhile now, just became a paying member last year, mainly so I could make more of a name for myself and support the site that does that for me. A little selfish, maybe, but feedback from customers is sometimes the only thing that can keep a business going. Maybe starting a poll as to why people don't want to become paying members.

Rich,I hope that you decide to keep the B.O.I. open to paying contributors after 12/31/09 & forever for that matter...No matter what people say or have to complain about the B.O.I. it is used daily by many of us... maybe on or after 1/1/10 if its a pay to play,so to speak, you'll get more sign ups...

Anyone want to get together a little paypal fund and have a bottle of champagne delivered to Rich on the 31st with a note telling him how much we love him and want him to keep the BOI? :)

Hey whatever will work at this point!! :D

There we go, keep Rich liquored up and the BOI stays. :?party:

DAND,if only it were that easy...

Maybe it isn't. But the man said when he was gonna decide. Maybe if we made a last ditch effort to round up a passel of folks to get a paid membership on that day.

And champagne never hurts :D

The next morning it can (and has).

Well, yeah, but it's that evening that's important. By the time he wakes up the next morning with a headache and the same old bunch of onnery folks to deal with, he will have already OKed the BOI staying :)

Let's get a bunch of people to help by signing up, collect some money for champagne, and be on our very best most charmingest behavior that day and evening. I'll even run some cute stuff in the Lonely Hearts forum to entertain!!

If we try hard enough, surely that will be good enough?

If I may...

How many of us have gone the legal route and had our businesses registered?

This is just something to take into consideration because KS has instituted a rule that I LOVE that only registered businesses can post ads. It appears to me, the posters using the free ad section that aren't contributors may want to take this into consideration.

I love the KS (registered businesses only) rule because it cuts down on a lot of scammers and fly-by-nighters...if the BOI disappears then I foresee that a lot of previously free ad forums will start instituting a pay for play rule.

If anyone thinks it's going to be any better on the other forums, think again..the same BS that is complained about here...happens there.:ack2:

Just wanted to drop that in....:)

Not quite true. A person selling under the name of a business needs to be registered but an individual selling under his own name does not.

I like the idea of restricting BOI posts to only those who have had first-hand experience with the buyer/seller the thread is about. We could have one thread for each seller/buyer (which would make people easier to search for and find), and people wouldn't have to waste hours wading through all the third-party crap. If other people see weaknesses in arguments, they can PM the party or parties involved, who can then question the buyer/seller in the thread. There's no need for everyone and his dog to comment on who he thinks is lying, what terrible TV shows the seller watches, or how the buyer's grammar means he's an idiot who must've done something stupid to screw up the transaction.

There is a problem with this train of thought though. IN a perfect world this might work...but this is not a perfect world. Quite frankly I am often amazed at what those 3rd parties are able to dig up on someone. Lets take the McKyle incident.... I think it was LB that had found him going on cracker sites braggin about his exploits.....by her posting this it goes to prove his creditability.... or in this case lack of. Without members being able to post what they find or what they think of the situation... you have effectivly cut the BOI off at the knees.

As to PMing effected parties and telling them what to say or ask.... I cant speak for eveyone... but I dont have the time to read a thread... then make a PM then read the thread some more... then make a PM. I suspect I am like most everyone else here... I work my 40 hrs a week.. run my small reptile breeding biz and try to take care of a family. I dont have that much time to give towards trying to expose the bad guys in this community.

Is the BOI perfect....nope... but then again... nothing is.

**raises hand**

I have.... but there is a slight flaw in the slaw. KS will allow anyone to post an ad... but if you want to use a biz name... you have to be registered. Anyone can post under their own name though.

Wooops.... sorry Deb... looks like someone beat me to it. Guess I need to read everything before posting.

**slaps hands away from the keyboard**

could even be a points system... for each transaction there would be a certain number of points as a way of rating the the seller and the buyer and then the average is what shows as their rating....
sellers would have things like....
Was the animals you recieved, as far as you can tell, the animal/animals you were promised?
Was the packaging done properly?
Was the level of communication satisfactory?
Was the seller helpful in answering any questions you had about the animal? If not please explain.
Was your order recieved on the right day?
Was your order shipped to the right address?
Any suggestions or comments you'd like to make in an effort to help the seller better serve future customers.
and then something along those lines for the buyer as well.

Actually, there's quite a few scammers and shady vendors with legitimate registered businesses whom I wouldn't go near within the KS ranks. I'm not gonna go into names since this thread is about a completely different issue and the this info is readily available on the BOI, but just saying that registering your business doesn't necessarily make you a good guy in fact it sometimes makes people bolder in their scams.

Amen to that, unfortunately certain individuals it seems have only been made braver in their scams by having a business license.

The boss done nixed the booze idea. That means we got to try REALLY hard so we got to try to sign up some more folks and be REALLY charming.

Well... tried pointing out that if the BOI is gone, the pay for play will probably go in effect on all the forums. FC is one of the last forums that allows free ads.....apparently the point got lost?

Point being, we are going to have to pay anyway whether we support the BOI or not..:shrug01:

Pocketbooks are going to be hit regardless of whether we agree on how the BOI is run or not.
