hi all didnt really want to haveta come here to post this but there isnt anywhere else to turn. i had been lookin for a adult female ambanja for my male, i saw a pair in the classifieds on CF his id there is dmaizer his name is mervat daoud, i contacted him an asked how old the female was, and he got bk to me and told me a sub adult... so i told him sorry i wasnt interested in her.. a few days goes buy and he pmes me askin if i was interested in her an said 100 shipped, hes leavin the country for a few months and needed to sell them before he goes, so i figer ok 100 bucks shipped for sub i can wait, so i paypal the money, he calls and tells me i need to contact eric from chameleons 101 to arrange shipping because she is at his place in california which is against CF rule of having item forsale in sellers possission.so i contact eric and we arrange to ship the sub adult then eric offers me a litte female ambanja for 90 bucks because im already havin the subadult sent from his place, so ok why not. at this point noone has mentioned what im goin to see when i open the package i recieved from ups before 1030.. i have the pics as well as pms from both the seller and eric from chameleons 101 when i opened the cloth bag this sub adult was in i couldnt believe my eyes, i couldnt believe anyone would sell this poor girl let alone ship this poor girl as shippin her here surley signed her death warrant. called eric and told him what was up with this sub an how it coulda been sold let alone shipped, i also got ahold of mervat daoud who told me he wasnt aware anything was wrong with her,but as hes tellin me this im readin pm from eric sayen he told him wasnt doin good when he recieved her from him , so he knew she was sick before he sold her to me. eric shipped her knowing how bad she was and his reply to me was it wasnt my place to say anything i didnt own her i just shipped her? eric has tried to help me solve this with mervat daoud but nothings been solved, eric has found me a replacement female for mervat daoud but mervat daoud will not respond to calls,texts, or pms. to get him to pay for shipping a diff one or gettin my 100 back.
i have emails and pics of said chameleon of the morning i got her out of the cloth bag... i just want people be aware of mervat daoud when if he ever tries sell you anything and about chameleons 101 an how eric thinks its ok to ship a sick chameleon and not say anything to the person buyin it cause he didnt sell her to me.... help please

Sorry to hear that. You should post the pics of the girl here as well. She looks really bad :-/

Unfortunately I don't think there is much you can do unless you asked about the chameleons health and he lied to you. With the fact that he is selling you a sick chameleon with out telling you I'd be a little worried if the girl is really Ambanja locale, unless you know who he bought her from.
 
Post as much as you can, emails, pics, pm's, and whatever. Sorry to here about this.
 
ive told eric about this thread, he has tried to work with me by finding another female sub or adult but damaizr wont respond to him or me. my prob with eric is shippin a cham lookin like this an not sayen so.. he will tell you himself when he responds himself or i can post the pm of him tellin me she was sick when he recieved her..i can wait for him to respond
 
That is one sad looking cham (from someone who keeps & has bred multiple chams - both tropical and montane).

If the cham did not belong to Eric, why was she in his care? How long had Eric been caring for this girl? Does Eric actually have experience in cham husbandry?
Please describe how she was packed, as well ... even better if you have photos of the packing.

Please post whatever other emails/PM's you may have.

its my understanding from eric hiself hes been keeping chameleons 20 sum years.eric told me he was holding dmaizer thats his id on CF his add forsale he had a male an female set he was leavin the country for a couple months so he shipped them to eric for him to take care of an in which time he was goin to breed his male. both chams as i recieved another in the shipment were packed well the ltiile one ina little deli cup with papertowel, the sick sub adult was in a cloth bag with a papertowel in the bottom.

Hey Rob, I called David & let him know he said he will be emailing u. I called him as soon as the animal got here, i told him the female didnt look very good. She did eat for me fine here. Maybe back to back shipping within a week caused this? I told Dave I will help him to make it right with u by giving u a young female. I dont know how u r going to work out shipping, but i will throw in the female (of your choice, that I have available) for nothing. Let me know what u think and what you guys have worked out. Sorry that all this happened, i was kinda trapped in the middle, its no fun being the middle man. P.S. how is the female I sent u working out? Let me know?
 
Eric was going to breed THAT girl, a sub-adult to his male? Odd for someone with 20 years experience.

And as far as shipping - chams are arboreal. They don't naturally sit, rest or sleep at the bottom of enclosures. IMO a cham in a cloth bag with a paper towel is not well packed.
I personally would never ship (or want to receive) a cham like that.

well i was shocked when i saw the shape she was in. if ida known anything bout her cond i wouldnt have wasted the money. eric wasnt goin to breed that female hes breeding the sellers male to one his females what he told me there doin a breedin prodject together thats why hes watching sellers chams while hes out of the country..eric said he would like to tell his side the story and ive told him about this thread ive also text the seller about it to but doubt he will show. eric has tried to help even found a replacement for the one that died but wants me to pay shipping or the seller to and the seller isnt callin either bk, my prob with eric is hes supposeta be this big breeder and all even sold me one i woulda never bought if i wasnt gettin the sub adult that i didnt know was sick.my prob is he told me it wasnt his place to tell me her cond that all he did was ship her he didnt sell her and cause that it wasnt his place to tell me her cond.
 
also i havent sold a cham and didnt look at the rules here on fauna but on CF seller must have items bein sold in possession.. he had his add here and there..

Good grief! That poor girl! Not even one year old and already been thru hell and back. And shipping twice in one week? No wonder she looks so bad.

Anybody who has any knowledge of chams knows the mortality rate of WC is extremely high. Anyone who has any knowledge of chams knows how sensitive they are, how hard it is to keep them properly hydrated and how easily they stress and become ill.

Unfortunately, when you buy WC you take a big chance, especially if you don't question the vendor thoroughly before you purchase.

I do agree $100.00 was way too much for that WC female, especially since the seller can't even guarantee she is truly Ambanja.

I hope you do get a partial refund or a decent FREE replacement.
If that girl is still alive, please give her lots of TLC - she needs it and she deserves it like you deserve some $ back.

yeah bein wc ya take your chances but if i was told she wasnt doin good when eric recieved her i surely wouldnt have wasted the money eric has a replacement for me but the seller wont answer either of us to pay shipping for replacement eric has and i dont feel i should haveto.. i either want my money from seller or him to pay for the replacement to be shipped.

LauraB-When shipping adult chams it is common practice to twist a papertowel into a long shape, and place it and the cham in a shipping bag-the towel gives the cham something to grab on to. Usually the foam lined shipping box is filled with shredded paper, and the cham in the bag is placed in the middle, with more shredded paper on top. Very standard way to ship.

I don't think the problem here is the shipping. This animal was not in good health, and certainly did not go down hill overnight in the shipping box.

Yes-you take a risk with WC animals, but WC animals can be well acclimated and in good shape prior to shipping/selling. This animal was not.

$100 is a great price for a WC female-but not for that one.

The seller should refund money in this case, or come to an acceptable agreement to replace the animal.

True. I did not envision the paper towel being twisted into a "perch". When the OP stated it was on the bottom, I envisioned it simply being flat at the bottom of the bag. Perhaps I should have asked before I assumed.

Personally, I only use a paper towel if someone is taking a cham locally - for a long overnight journey, I use a small portion of artificial vine. That said, I am aware the twisted paper towel method is acceptable and widely used.

I agree, the problem here was obviously not shipping.

As a hobbyist breeder and keeper of over 30 chameleons, I have shipped and received A LOT of animals. The pictures posted of when she was taken out of the shipping box are disgusting. As far as I have gathered Eric Thompson of Chameleons 101 shipped her in that shape. You have got to be kidding me. No matter if that animal was wc or cb it makes no difference. The picture was misleading. Both the seller and the shipper are very irresponsible and in my opinion Rob should get a full refund. I wouldn't want a replacement for this animal because of their obvious lack of chameleon husbandry knowledge, and responsibility.
