Kelly Reggie - Caught in a SCAM!

I recently had the unfortunate privilage of doing business with Kelly Reggie. He had listed an entire group of adult female ball pythons on ReptiBid and I emailed him to get a price on the entire group. Here are the emails as the deal worked it's self out.

These girls do not have a problem feeding, I guarantee you will not have a problem feeding these girls I have raised them up since they were about 90-100 grams and obviously they fed pretty good lol.
I probe all my balls, I have probed them when I purchased them and again when they were about 300 grams and then again around 800-900 grams I came out with two males out of the 30 I had orginally purchased.
I have probed these last ones I have and they are all females I will guarantee that to you also.
I except postal money orders,and checks.
The ones I have left are all with these weights:
5 Females @ 1200-1300grams
4 Females @ 1400-1500 grams
3 females @ 1600-1800 grams
3 Females @ 1900-2000 Grams

I have to be honest with you; I am a little concerned that these could be fresh imports or even wild caught adults. Is there any way you can prove other wise. I am VERY interested in buying all of them from you; I just need some reassurance that these are not problem feeders or are in fact either long term captive adults, or babies that you raised. Please advise about he origin of these very nice balls. Do you guarantee sex on them? How are you sexing them? The only reason I ask is because some people will only try to pop them or they base the sex off of the spur size. What forms of payment do you take? Can you give me a run down on how many of each size I will be getting?

Frozen for the smaller ones and live for the ones over 1600 grams. They feed pretty fast, you might have to hang the frozen rat from the tail over the edge of the cage for the smaller ones and move it a little bit then they take it right up, they seem to be scared of the live ones!

This has been a real mess. I was woke up this morning by a pounding on the door by the DHL currier. To my surprise there was this huge box sitting on my porch. I was even more surprised to see that it was from you after I told you that I had put a stop payment on the money orders. So I went ahead and opened the package to check the health and quality of these balls and I must tell you I am very disappointed in the quality. I don’t know how you keep your ball pythons when you raise them from babies but these look horrible. They have scars, retained shed, and more importantly TICKS! These are clearly imports. I am very frustrated to think that you would have bold faced lied to me like this and tried to pass these off. SO, I need to know what you want me to do with these. If you want to cut your losses I will pay you for them, but it will only be for the price I pay for imports which is $20ea otherwise I will ship them back at your expense which will be well over $100.

This is going on too long. I need to know by Monday what you want me to do with these ball pythons or I am going to sell them myself. I don’t have room in my collection for a bunch of wild caught balls. Either let me know if you want them back or if you are willing to take the offer I gave you. If you take them back it will be well over $100 for shipping again or you can sell them to me for the $18ea price for a total of $252. I hope you realize as mentioned in several previous emails that the money orders I sent you had a stop payment put on them when I never heard back from you. I also called down to the Hollywood, Florida Police Department and they said that the address you gave me was valid but they didn’t have any record of a Kelly Reggie. I immediately thought this was fraudulent transaction and stopped the transfer of funds. I’m glad I did since these are clearly not as you described. Captive raised baby ball pythons shouldn’t have scars and ticks on them.

If I don’t hear from you by the end of the day on Monday I will begin selling these.

EMAIL #13 (THIS IS WHAT I GOT TODAY AFTER HE REALIZED THAT HE DIDN'T GET OVER ON ME)
I expect immiediate replacement of the stopped money orders.


The moral to this story is, this person was very willing to communicate with me up until he received the payment. Then he wanted to delay things and even after I told him I was no longer interested he took it upon himself and shipped the misrepresnted snakes anyway. These were to be nice healthy females that he raised from babies and instead I got Tick infested wild caught females that I guess he thought I would just not recognize. Although I realize it has been very early since I received them none have taken any meals that have been offered to them. This is a case of the scammer being scammed and now that he knows he has been caught he doesn't want to take his animals back as he knows he will eat too much of a loss, even more than he already has. I also want to point out that none of the females weighed over 2000 grams and in fact the weights were not at all as he said. The heaviest came in at 1970 grams with the next largest at only 1650 grams. Three were under 1000 at only 615, 855 and 920 grmas.

How long did you wait from the day they should of gotten there till you stoped payment? you only posted the date on two of the e-mails, thats why I'm asking. Also why did you go from paying $20 a snake to only $18?

I mailed the payment out to him on Wednesday, he got it on Thursday. I was supposed to receive the balls on Friday and I didn't. I stopped payment Friday afternoon.

I have since offered to buy them again at the $20 price tag. I don't really know why I changed the price from $20 to $18. I have also offered to ship them back to him in every email I have sent to him so that he can't use the "He's ripping me off excuse."

The part that is very strange to me is, I emailed him Saturday and told him not to ship the snakes. Not only did he have time to read my email but he also emailed me back after receiving my message. He then shipped them out Tuesday via' DHL after we had agreed to use FedEx on the original transaction. He had four days to think about the descision as to whether to ship them to me or not.

At first I did think it was a woman, but after a few of his replies and the way he was referred to in another BOI thread about him I am sure it's a man.

I never got a phone number from him to talk to him over the phone, to be honest I felt it would be handled a lot better via' email since I was so pissed about how this had unraveled. The DHL account is under Kelly Reggie.

Under these circumstances

You have gone above and beyond what would be considered a normal transaction. You were lucky, he was stupid! Keep the snakes, sell them and keep the money as your payment for the time and troulbe you encountered with this thief. If he so concerned about his snakes, dont contact him any longer. Let him make the next move..........................which will be nothing. Thieves like this move on in the night, looking for other prey. JERRY

You are probably not going to “reform” this individual. But by doing to him what he attempted to do to you will just reinforce his belief that everyone in the world behaves the way he does. As the saying goes “two wrongs don’t make a right”. You can’t scam a scammer without turning yourself into one in the process. He knows how much it will cost for the snakes to be shipped back (you can give him an exact quote), and he has your offer of $18 each to consider. As Jerry’s stated …“Let him make the next move”...

In no way am I suggesting for KCRD to pay the return shipment. But they can give the other party the option of sending a money order for the return shipment, cash it to avoid the “stop payment” option, and then send the snakes. Similarly, you are not going to send the snakes “collect” because he will more than likely leave them at the FedEx/UPS depot. It’s obvious this individual was trying to pull a scam on KCRD. They made the right thing by bringing it to the BOI attention, but they shouldn’t “spoil it” by keeping his money or his snakes.

What other options are open. Either the snakes are sent back or their not. If they are, as you indicated , they are to sent collect. The snakes will not make it, or the receiver will not pay for the shipping.

If the snakes are kept, either they will be paid for or not. If you are suggesting that KCRD send some sort of payment for the pythons, then I think that would be a serious mistake (legally). So I see no other option than to keep them. Lets see what this guy is willing to do about the snakes.

Personally, I think he is willing to take the complete loss and move on. For sure he is not going to sue, or hire an attorney or come here to the BOI complaining about KCRD or make any attempt to get the snakes back free of charge!

That would be the way to handle it. Give him/her a reasonable deadline to decide how he wants to handle it. In fact KCRD will need that time frame to adequately treat the animals for parasites before selling them. If he decides to send payment for the return shipment so be it.

money for the snakes , if they were in fact sold by Dennis would open a padoras box. At that point the shipper could say he was legally entitled get paid. The situation of a stopped payment, and then receiving the snakes, and selling them is not a good idea. For all intents and purposes, the shipper abandoned the snakes, and a closure has been put on this situation. If the sender somewhere down the road attempts to recover any monies, let him sue. For sure their will be no additional out of pocket expense on his part.
