the other day, my friend came up to my room and saw my geckos in my not quite finished rack system. i expected a "wow! cool!" but my friend said, "those r lizards, how come u have them set of like lab mice?" and i realized it was true. a row of lizards in plastic tubs on shelves each in the exact same setup (paper towel substrate, water bowl, calcium bowl, food bowl, moist hide) , it did seem almost like a labratory. but then i said, "well they have all the essentials, and all of the more experienced breeders do it this way" but i have always loved setting up natural vivaria ( i have a very nice desert setup and a spectacular rainforest setup as well) so, i moved 4 out of my 6 adult leos into a spare 55 gallon i have (1.3) (1 female is in a 10 gallon and one is still in a tub) i figured how would i like it if someone put me in a rectangular room w/ a water cooler, plate of sandwiches, bottle of vitamins, a chair and bed? i would have what i needed to survive, but i wouldnt b very happy. so i moved the geckos to the 55, and gave them a nice big natural looking rack wall complete w/ crevices for crawling into (allong w/ a moist hide, and all the other essentials) i figured that if zoos gave animals enrichment, y should i deny my animals something as simple as a rack wall? i think it will make for much happier geckos, and hopefully better breeding success (ps i ddnt go so far as to put them on sand, theyre still on paper towel)
