In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

a thought occurs...

the other day, my friend came up to my room and saw my geckos in my not quite finished rack system. i expected a "wow! cool!" but my friend said, "those r lizards, how come u have them set of like lab mice?" and i realized it was true. a row of lizards in plastic tubs on shelves each in the exact same setup (paper towel substrate, water bowl, calcium bowl, food bowl, moist hide) , it did seem almost like a labratory. but then i said, "well they have all the essentials, and all of the more experienced breeders do it this way" but i have always loved setting up natural vivaria ( i have a very nice desert setup and a spectacular rainforest setup as well) so, i moved 4 out of my 6 adult leos into a spare 55 gallon i have (1.3) (1 female is in a 10 gallon and one is still in a tub) i figured how would i like it if someone put me in a rectangular room w/ a water cooler, plate of sandwiches, bottle of vitamins, a chair and bed? i would have what i needed to survive, but i wouldnt b very happy. so i moved the geckos to the 55, and gave them a nice big natural looking rack wall complete w/ crevices for crawling into (allong w/ a moist hide, and all the other essentials) i figured that if zoos gave animals enrichment, y should i deny my animals something as simple as a rack wall? i think it will make for much happier geckos, and hopefully better breeding success (ps i ddnt go so far as to put them on sand, theyre still on paper towel)

Lab Setup

I hear ya ! But really the best thing about our lab type setups is cleanliness , ease of cleaning etc. Ever try to scrub poop off a Rock wall or naturalistic hide ? Not fun , and nearly impossible to clean well enough on a daily basis for one of the "house poopers" (as i call them ) when you have a medium to large collection .

I`de say if you have only a few or a handful of animals ,go for it , its nicer to look at anyways , and the geckos may enjoy it more too . When you have something like 30 Adults and 70 babies to take care of thats probably not the best or easiest choice . To each his own .

My Leos seem very happy though after their transition to "Condominiums" (the ones that once lived in vivs)

thats cool i guess, but to add to your list of "how would you like it if:" well, how would you like it if a different creature bigger than you took you out of your house and held you for a couple minutes or even an hour?

I have one "display" set up and the rest racks but I use larger tubs, 22x17x7 for 1.3 - 1.5 and I use newpaper or paper towels until they establish the poop area, then I put a piece of tile and hihid hide on the warm, a dry hide in the middle and a cool on the cool side.

And I agree when you have a few its awesome to be able to give them a more narutal setting but wehn you have a lot its a what is easier to keep clean every day.

Most of mine poop in the front left or back right corner and I clean that out every am and take it all apart every Sunday and run each tub threw the dishwasher and I can only get 1 in since they are so large, then I virosan them for extra security.

I have 18 Adult set ups with 1.3 - 1.5 and 18 baby set ups split in half sicne they are large tubs with 2 babies in each slot.

If I had natural set ups for all that many it would take me allllll day every day to keep it clean and Id probably still not be done lol

i just wanted everyone to know that im not putting down rack systems, im gunna end up using one for all the babies, and thers nothing wrong w/ them if u have alot of geckos and theyre def easier to clean. i was just making an observation based on what my friend said. just saying u have to do whats right for u

I didn't take it that way either, and I used to have all of mine in 40 gallon breeders tanks til it got to where I had more cleaning time with them than enjoyable time. I did keep 1 set up though, just had to in the living room as a display.

mine are in all natural looking tanks with rocks, and acully sand, but i make sure they dont eat it because i had feed them or watch them eat from a bowl. i dont have to many yet but when it gets bigger im definitly going tobe putting them in a rack. i allready have avout 25 leos, 5 cresteds, 4 bearded dragons, 1 frilled dragon, and 4 ball pythons. tanks are adding up! lol im glad i orderd my rack the other day. hopefully it will get to me soon.

I don't have a lot of leos, about 10 with 1 baby but the racks are easiest for me to keep track of. Nice to clean as well!

All my adult leos are housed in 12 qt. steralite bins singly, and i introduce the male to the females so i know who is the mama and daddy ;3. They have a calcium dish, a waterdish and a humid hide. Nothing fancy. They seem happy. At least happy enough to breed for me! :)

My babys are put into 6 qts. singly. They have a shallow water dish, a humid hide. I dust their food so i know for SURE they are getting the calcium that their little bones need :)

I really really enjoy my rack system. I have ones for my snakes too! (1 Adult rack, 1 juvi rack and 1 hatchling rack!) :)
