A Question for Jason (Off topic)

Jason,

You mentioned that Washington state has just passed a herp law. Do you have a link to this information? The only law I know of that was under consideration was HB1151, which at last report died in committee in the state senate. If you have different info, I'd appreciate it. You can PM or e-mail me if you like, so the thread stays on topic.

I just jumped over to kingsnake.com, bounced through about a dozen or two pages, and didn't see any mention of this legislation there either.

Tell you what I will do. You write up the text, put in links to the correct pages (please don't use this to link to your own site, however), and I will mass email it to all of the members of this site. Make the first line read:

"This is Jason Sweigart using the resources of FaunaClassifieds to bring this important message to you."

That will go out to nearly 4,000 people registered here. Then copy JeffB and ask him to do the same. That should be substantial coverage, don't you think?

I hope they're serious, b/c I've found it pretty hard to keep track of the known legislation by surfing the web. There doesn't seem to be a good, up to date repository of this info out there. (Or I'm too dense to find it.)

What's sad is the anti-pet sites like HSUS have more thorough updates. Not surprising, since they're the ones pushing them, but it's a shame they seem to be so much more organized with so much less education. =/

So now 20 people will hate Rich and have to attack back. Same as we have between me you and Darin and how many other of your members who feel I have been unjustly attacking you. The BOI is more personal its one on one, not this my site is better then yours crap or your site just cant get it right when that involves tons of members. No because as I think I have said twice before in this thread thats were I got alot of the info from. So since I learned most of it from them there is no reason for me to hassle them to get it up there.

Wow, a day or two and even this thread has been swayed off topic. I for one, just in these past pages of arguements with Jason, can see why you just wanted to cave in and drop everything. I agree, the petty insult slinging that I even participated in needs to stop. It is not worth your time or your health to continue on the fued. When I read your orginal change of policy, I aplauded the call for the insults to stop, but I was deeply concerned about the new policy. I didn't like it at all, however, I wanted to think about it for a few days and try to view all angles before commenting. I am so relieved to check back in and see that you are willing to listen to your users and admit you may have been wrong. Two things make this a better site, 1.Your willingness to work with your users 2. The ability to state true facts freely. The original change of policy almost shot them both to hell.
People need to have a place to go to get the plain old truth out there. Banned Kingsnake Users need a place to go to explain themselves and offer the truth behind why they were banned. I agree that it shouldn't be a place for mud-slinging, but a place where people can represent thier side. And why do you owe the people a place to do this? You don't, pure and simple. However, if you are going to run a site, why not give the herp community something it needs and not a copy of something it already has? You stated before you did not want this site to be entertainment, and I am afraid that is just what bannings and deleting threads would do to this site. I still visit Kingsnake.com. Why? For valueable information, NO, for entertainment. I enjoy helping some of the novice herpers there, however, if I needed herp advice I would take any comments from that site with a big grain of salt because I know that most of the knowledgeable people have been banned, and the veiwed posts from the few "good people" left may have been altered to JeffB's liking. I definatly would not shell out cash for a banner ad there(If and when I would need one). So the deleting of threads made me start to have the same feeling about this site. Take it with a grain of salt because who knows what has been deleted.
I found your comparison of Kingsnake to the energy companies a long shot, and I whole-heartedly agree with Darin's concerns about JeffBs ties with PETA members. One of the people you quoted in your "orginal post" commented that the herp community needs to stick together and just get along. I found the statement very nieve and foolish. If we are going to have that type of foolish blanket policy, you might as well get rid of the entire BOI. I mean anyone complains about a herp business and we can all tell them to shut up, forgive, and forget because the herp community needs to stick together.
I voted for a completly open forum, perhaps if a comment gets out of hand it could be taken out of the thread and in it's place a comment such as "this post has been edited due to content" along with a link to view the entire post if people really want to see it. Kind of like what you did with the warning system. I like the idea of housekeeping, just not the deleting-to-never-be-seen-again.
I again thank you for considering everyones opinions and encourage you to not waste your time responding to childish posts by "kingsnake supporters". Just let thier threads lie and let people decide for themselves. Atleast two pages of posts could be missing from this thread if you just let a couple of people's posts be as they are and without comment from you. I am sure they enjoy taking up your time and once you start replying, there is just no end to it. Trust people to see the truth, if you let them.

I haven't been to KS in a while. I just know that there are mods completely sympathetic to HSUS/PETA there. I'll still be impressed if what you write here for Rich ever sees the light of day on KS.
