My message to randy kuehn (lepgex14)
Randy,
I know you are trying to "break into the herp biz" but you don't seem ready, At least not yet. I am not saying this because of your age, but because of the animal pictured on your web site. What I am going to type next is probably going to hurt your feelings and after you read through all of the post here you are probably going to feel every one is against you. We are not. I think I speak for everyone here when I state, we are just trying to help you out. Here goes...
No one in the right mind would purchase an animal that looked like the one photographed. You probably could not give it away (okay, there would most likely be people that would adopt the poor thing). If people see an animal like that on the first page of your site, what are they going to think about the rest of your collection?
Let me ask you something. How many photos of leopard geckos posted for sale have you seen? Probably Many. But how many of them photos depict animals that looked like the one pictured on your site? Probably none.
Even if I ordered a freshly hatched baby from you, I would be scared as hell to open that box after what I seen on your site. On the second thought, I wouldn’t even order! I would be scared to.
Before you can sell animals, you have to know how to care for them. Look, things DO happen, having an animal that has had a bad shed does not make you a bad keeper, however ignoring the problem and not doing anything about it does.
If I where you, I would be sticking that Leo in a small tub of warm water just enough to get his feet wet and let him soak for a half hour, then being very gentle try to roll off some of that extra skin. It is going to take time and you may have to repeat things, deal with bites and go crazy. If this is something that you would not be willing to do, then you should get rid of the animals.
Close your site, get your geckos healthy. No one will be buying from you soon. Ask questions about the animals on forums. Read books. Learn about the animals. Then after you get your animals healthy and they stay healthy and look good, try your hand at selling them. But remember, those animals come first. Not money.
I hope I have not ticked you off but I probably have. I DO wish you luck if you keep the site up with those animals pictured, you will need it. Lots of it. As for spelling, a lot of people are bad at spelling. I am, but I do my best to run things through Microsoft word or some kind of spell checker.
