In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I've been thinking of looking into a browser to replace my Internet Explorer for one reason or another. IE seems prone to crashes if I have too many of them open, run some javascript it doesn't like, view a PDF file, or do anything more complex then a plain vanilla single viewing program.

So what is out there that is REALLY good, rock solid and able to display websites correctly concerning SSI, javascript, and CSS code? I've heard people say good things about Opera, and lately someone mentioned something called Firefox. Any others?

IE is the pits! You might want to give Mozilla or Firefox a try.
Seems like every security update Microsoft provides for IE just makes it worse. I haven't tried Opera yet.

Firefox all the way! Tabbed browsing allows you to have one browser window open while surfing MANY sites simultaneously. The extensions being written for FF really extend its capabilities. As for displaying CSS and HTML properly, it is written in accord with W3C standards (IE is NOT). There are sites which will not display properly in FF (or most browsers) because they were written for IE or created in everyone's favorite WSIWYG editor, Frontpage.

As for stability, I have been using FF since version .6. I have used it on Linux, Windows, and OS X. I cannot recall it ever crashing on me. One caveat though, I always run the stable build and not nightlies.

As a developer, web master, support tech, and avid web surfer, I give it my endorsement. Try it out the installer is less than a 7 MB download....

Been using Opera since yesterday and it is super fast and reliable! Love it!

I have been using Firefox (formerly called Firebird and Phoenix) for the last 2 years or so. Firefox is a Mozilla project that is going to completely replace the Mozilla suite.

It is designed to be a small, fast, no bloat browser that can be completely customized to suite your needs. When initially installed it is a pretty bare bones browser. It is supposed to be. You can add what they call "Extentions" to the browser to add specific features that you want. So instead of making a browser that has a million features, most that you do not want, they make a slimmed down browser with a million extensions you can add so you only have the features you want.

I highly recommend it.

I agree about FireFox. I’ve been using it for almost 6 months on my desktop and it has been working great. I didn’t want to leave my IE browser as I’m so used to it but I chimed right in with FireFox. It’s awesome!

I to have been using Firefox for the last couple of years. Love it. However keep in mind that any software it may not be what you need, it is a work in progress and for some people can be buggy, (Hasn't been for me). And DOES regardless of what the rabid antiMS and RABID pro firefoxers say have holes etc that can be exploited. All this said it is a great product and I highly recommend it.

There are practically no available software packages that do not have holes in them. No matter who makes it or what the licensing structure is, nothing is totally secure.

I don't think I am concered about security holes as much as I am about plain old compatibility issues. Last time I checked, more then 80 percent of the users accessing my servers were using Internet Explorer. Software developers know those stats, so when they program their code, they tend to target the largest compatible audience. Like it or not, any competing product that is not as close to 100 percent compatible as possible to IE will have a tough time getting wide acceptance of their product.

That's just the way it works, unfortunately.

I switch between FireFox and IE. there are a few features I haven't figured out yet in FireFox but I LOVE tabbed browsing.

I have netscape, opera and foxfire, opera is super fast but if I open too many pages it crashes on me, foxfire & netscape are a little slower than opera but much better than IE and have not crashed yet

I use FireFox (up to version 1.0.4 now) almost exclusively. There's an extension that adds a button "View this page in IE" for the rare occasion when I need to run IE (ex: windowsupdate.com). And of course I use it for testing my website.

I just loaded up Firefox 1.0.4 today and am giving it a test drive. Not sure I like it. The screen seems to jump around quite a bit as the images are fit into the page on the fly as they are loaded. Much more so then I am used to in IE. Also I had what might be a major snag to me. I can't log out of my vBulletin message board systems while using it. It takes me to the correct screens like it is doing that, but I just get bounced right back to the main forum screen under my current login.

I just noticed while typing in this message that the right hand side of this window has some of the smilies truncated off with the rest of that section of screen.

Hmmmm....

I have had good luck with Firefox. Tabbed browsing is an awesome feature which no doubt old Softy will copy in the next version of IE. There are some bugs with it but by and large it is the best I have used.

What you are seeing with the smilies being out of line is not a Firefox problem, but a short coming in programming. Firefox is CSS and W3C standards compliant. IE is NOT. Many developers (myself included) develop for IE and do not use standard programming techniques.

I am trying to break the habit and look at my sites with other browsers, so that my users get a uniform feel no matter what browser or platform they surf from.

I just started using Firefox and absolutely love it. The page loads are faster and the Tabbed Browsing is very handy.

If any of you have not yet tried this, give it a shot.
Firefox buries IE hands-down.

aol has a browser it works pretty good it came with the updated version of aim i like that when seperate windows are open they show at the top of the screen next to the toolbar. It shows you a little preview before you switch pages.

Firefox all the way. Im an avid tech savvy web browser and firefox takes the cake by a landslide! The Customization of the browser is practically endless, it can check your Gmail for you ( if you dont have gmail i highly suggest you get that as well, send me a PM ill give you and invite for it) it can also have just about anything you can think of right there on the browser for you, short of hot steaming hamburgers at your every beck and call. ( but theyre working on that!!!!) hahaha

Tabbed browsing is Genius, and more useful than anything ive ever used before. Adblocker is another extension that you can use as well, and it helps to block pretty much ALL popups!

It has a few Quirks with Java but its getting better with more and more builds. one thing with firefox is HTML has to be writen pretty much perfectly. ( i havent messed with code lately to test it as of now, but in some earlier versions it had some troubles understanding code that wasnt spaced apart) there are some IE specific codes that firefox wont show, but other than that its got everything down.

It also somtimes conflicts with certain extensions that you install as well. im not sure as of WHAT exact ones cause the most trouble, but im sure with some good searching around you can find out the ones to avoid.

Get Firefox!
