In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Anne Troff aka Anne Ripoff

I'll post my experience to the thread since I am one of the few people here who have actually bought something from Anne.
I'm not condoning her past actions nor giving her a pass here, just relating my experience.

I bought an albino male ball from her about 8 weeks ago, before she had gotten the batch of imports. I know there were quite a few here that were trying to get him at the time. Everyone else emailed her, but I called her at work so she heard from me first.
The snake came in in top condition. He arrived that morning and ate that night, something I almost never do, but I happened to be feeding anyway that day. He's had no problems at all since.
During the transaction, I spoke to Anne several times on the phone and we exchanged several PMs. At no point did I have any aprehension or suspect that I might get ripped off.
It was obvious she wasn't expereinced in the herp business, but she didn't conduct herself in such a way that I was nervous. I also paid with a postal money order, since some are suggesting that is why she backed out with Scott.

I waited a couple of days to respond to this thread becaue I was waiting to hear from another of her customers. He contacted me a while back asking if I would recommend her. I did, based on my experience, and after reading this thread I wanted to make sure my good word wasn't misplaced. I contacted him to check the status of his transaction and he informed me everything went well.
I realize this is second hand info, take it for what you feel it's worth.

Perhaps she is trying to change, perhaps not. No one can actually answer that. I can only say that in my deal with her, I was fully satisfied, and no problems were encountered.
As far as the transaction that initiated this thread, yes Anne used poor judgement in backing out of the sale so abruptly, but the bottom line is nothing was lost, not even the cost of sending her the money order.
It is my opinion that the cost of the snake is the sole reason that Scott got so upset. He lost a steal of a deal. Had he been purchasing that snake for normal market value, I doubt he would have been so upset since he could have called any breeder and gotten the same deal. In this case, at this point in time, he would be hard pressed to find a similar snake for that price.
Scott's behavior after the deal was broken would ensure I would not have offered him a second opportunity. What it boils down to is nothing was lost in the deal. Scott should get over it and move on. He lost the chance at a high end snake for just over half of market value and he's pissed. I'd be disappointed too, but I have the maturity to move on and vow not to atempt business with the person who did it to me again.
This thread, particularly the title, and the other posts he made to her classifieds were made out of nothing more than spite because he was angry he lost such a good deal. He lost nothing physically, just the opportunity to buy something for far less than it was worth.

One of the most common signs of a scammer is they deal in hets. We've seen this too many times to count, and it is said she was doing just this in the glider community. However, she has never offered any het snakes for sale. I would be inclined to think if she was still up to her old ways and trying to run scams on the snake community that she would be selling a few hets at least, and not just dealing with visual morphs. Short of just stealing money and sending nothing, it's hard to scam someone buying a visual.

Despite everyone's eagerness to jump on the wagon and call her a scammer, based on my own experience and what has happened in the snake community only, I cannot at this time say there is adequate evidence that she is not trying to be an upstanding business person.
She still has the opportunity, with me at least, to prove herself either way. I won't write her off based on nothnig more than what I've seen coupled with mob mentality.

Hopefully she is on the honest path but talking about scamming people just 2 months ago on her website makes you wonder.

Did she follow thru on your deal because she knew who you were and it could cause a problem here for her if she burned you? What if you were an anonymous buyer from one of her KS ads?

I really hope she has turned a new leaf but I still worry especially since TSE built a reputation as a good guy first and then used that reputation to take a signifigant amount of money from people in the end.

Have any scammers who were brought to light on this board ever had satisfying transactions before deciding to rip people off (or reverting back to ripping people off)? The best gain trust and then hit their target exactly as Anne has a history of doing.

Yes, people may change habits...

...although not impossible, lifestyles are somewhat more difficult.

That is a good valid point!! I am glad that Clay got his moneys worth. But the fact remains she has scammed before. Does scammers scam on every deal? Some do, some don't. I could name many that are scammers, but they did not scam on every deal.

Think about this for a moment.......what better way to gain a quick "trust" than by flashing around your visual morphs, selling a couple shortly after purchasing them to establish oneself as a "good guy".....then start pulling a TSE next season when your visual male (if indeed you still have one) could be ready to breed? How many people on the TSE thread kept saying, "I'd feel better about his hets if he showed pics of the visual parents"?

Also, I am still scratching my head over that whole deal on another thread where Anne "bent" the rules and purchased the large amounts of money orders, and then seemed unconcerned when they were seized by a postal inspector for what, a month? Something still smells fishy to me on that one.......could it actually perhaps have had something to do with her past catching up to her?

I've seen itty bitty red flags all over, but when someone can still be laughing less than 2 months ago about scamming people, I see one great big flag dang near hitting me in the head on this one.

Not onle do the last several posts coincide with my opinion but she isn't holding anything unique for someone to take the risk for. No signature line, hard to find CB examples, and son on.

Why take the chance when there are a plethora of others without a past to choose from?

Well, I've been keeping up with the progress of this post over the last couple of days, and I must say that at first, I was on Anne's side. I saw her begin a post somewhere else about how she wasn't a scammer, yada da da da.

I must agree with the person who said a while back that Anne is giving us younger folk who want to go into the snake business a bad, bad name.

There is a difference between making a little business mistake and being a straight up scammer. I'm 18 years old. I've only been into herps for a couple of years. I know, though, that mites are not the end of the world and that Scott deserved to get his animal.

Did you notice that she said she was going to leave the forums for a while? Isn't that convenient! She is "gone" now and won't have to show vet proof or the animal.

Her actions speak (read?) louder than her words.

To Scott: Even if you didn't get your animal, that gives you no right to be skanking around her myspace leaving messages. As an 18 year old, I know that someone leaving me messages and calling me a naughty girl would gross me out. I am grossed out for Anne. You need to grow up as well.

Well, unfortunately I have some damning news. There is apparently a good reason she hasn't shown any vet bills or taken pictures on a current newspaper.

The fellow who contacted me asking for a reference first did so on 6/28/06. I answered him that day and he replied on 6/29/06 that he had just bought an albino female from Anne.
I found it interesting that those dates coincided with the dates Scott sent the money order and had it returned. Scott sent the money order on either the 27th or the 28th, and in his first post to this thread he posted an email he sent her on the 29th stating he called her a bunch of times.
Regardless the two transactions were going on at the same time.

Anne herself made this statement in post #132:

I still don't think I am in the wrong here, but I will hold Daffodil for Scott, if he's still interested in her.
Well, I emailed the fellow again today and asked him if the name of the snake he purchased was Daffodil.
He just responded a few minutes ago and said "Yep, that's her"

So it appears that the reason she can't take current pictures is that she did indeed sell her to someone else.
Now as far as I'm concered that act alone, while unethical no doubt, was not technically a scam since Scott's money was returned. Had she simply admitted what she did it would have been frowned upon, but it would have at least displayed honesty.
Rather than that though she has maintined that she still has the snake and even went so far as saying she would be willing to hold it for Scott if he wanted. That's when she crossed the big line. I can't help but wonder what would have happened if Scott had agreed.

Release The Hounds!

Clay,

Will the current owner be posting here? He could answer alot of questions we'll have:

- Did she mention mites
- What selling price did she accept?
- How much $$$ does it take for her to follow her word?
- Shipping

And alot more.

I am speechless, I thought that her Apology was genuine, and wanted to put the scammer life behind her, only to find out she got a better deal. :no01: :no01:

Clay, if I was you I would do a float on that girl, or even a vet visit. If I was a betting man, I would bet Daffodil had been kept with those WCs. Just my opinion.

Daffodil might have been, and I'll relate that possibility to the current owner.
I purchased the male from her 8 weeks ago however, and she only got those imports the day before she shipped him to me, she mentioned it in a PM.

As for the current owner posting here, I sent him a link to the thread, but he never indicated any interest in participating.
I'll mention it again when I email him suggesting he have a float done, he may or may not respond here directly.

and on next weeks episode Anne tries to sell a rat breeder a het for blue dumbo hairless rat.

A friend of ours is a huge ferret and specialty rat breeder in the Northeast. I have sent her a link to this thread so she can post a warning on her forums. That way the ferret and rat breeders can be aware Anne possibly switching species again.

I'll do a red alert in the avian and marine aquaria loops as well. She'll have to resort to incurable pathogens by the time we're all finished with her.
