In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

i post sometimes, but since i was harassed via pm it really turned my whole attitude.

Man I really need to look at the threads more lol. Ill admit I just skim most times. Anyways I search alot and my question gets answered. When I can't find it I generally just call a more experienced herper like Bry and Lolo they have yet to steer me wrong lol. Thanks for listening

i just joined mainly i use the boi when i am planning to buy from someone that i don't already know. and then i just search the forums if i have a question. and it gets answered.

i love the beginner questions makes me think the practicle stuff i have learned in 10+ yrs of doing this is not for not and actually has some use

i post here and there when i am on here but i love carpet pythons and not many threads or sales of them on here these days. mostly ball pythons and boas on here these days in threads and such and i'm not into either of them.

The reason that I have not been posting much is I am still fairly new on here. I have talked about the ban that the idiots (sorry I mean our responsible and highly caring politicians) are trying to get through. I will fight this as hard as I can. I have written e-mail, letters and made calls. I even got the guys at work to sigh letters. Anyway that is not for this forum but I will post when I come up with something. I look forward to talking to most of you and getting advice. I have been working with large snakes for 12 years or so but new to retics. Mostly just Redtails and Burmese Pythons. Thanks for everyones time and talk later.

I'm new here, but I'm not new to the hobby and have been a member of many other forums for a long time.

I answer all the questions that I can; even if I only have a small bit of input. I don't really care if it makes me look stupid or unknowledgable. If it means helping another herper in need, even in a small way, I am willing. When I am worried about my reptiles and have a question, I appreciate all the help I can get.

I'm kind of a converted lurker, does that count? :D
I've been here since the 'old' BOI and for years only visited fauna to buy/sell on the classifieds, research and (just have fun reading crazy threads) on the BOI. Late last year I started to post in the other forums, I've got two or three other sites that I post on semi-regularly, it's a balancing act deciding which forum to post on when I only have limited time (no internet at home, which will be fixed soon!). I am a pic junkie and love to post pics and see pics and some sites seem to have more of that on a regular basis but I do see a lot of good discussions (and pics!) here which has gotten me posting. There's a 'fun' atmosphere here and also a 'group' dynamic that is interesting. I'll admit to being a little hesitant to start posting due to some of that same 'group' dynamic but figured if I'm not a "bad guy", why worry?

Well, I have to be honest here.
I am very much a lurker, and I usually use this website for information that has previously been posted and to browse the classified section. There have been a few times i've considered cancelling my membership here... From the responses i've received and seen from others, it seems to me as if there is a select group of "popular" members who can say anything they want, however they want, whenever they want, to whoever they want...I don't feel comfortable posting my opinions or answering questions I know the answer to because a.) I don't want to be verbally assaulted and b.) even if I did post, my response would be worth a big, stinky pile of dung because i'm not one of those "popular" members. So normally I just stay quiet. Except for right now I guess; and I can imagine I will regret even posting this.

On the contrary...

Don't ever regret anything you say as long as you say it from the very depths of your being.
I've seen some of your posts and I don't feel that you would have anything to worry about...you don't seem to be a scammer & you sound intelligent enough. Sometimes a) you need to be strong-willed & thick-skinned; b) you need to be very vocal--it's ok & somewhat therapeutic to have differing opinions; c) you need to consider the source...sometimes it's not the 'popular' people being butt-heads!
Participate more, don't worry about other people coming back at you (you can put people on ignore so you never have to read anything they say!), get to know more people around the forums, and most important...
DON'T CANCEL YOUR MEMBERSHIP!

There should be a "what are you talking about? I post constantly" choice, just in case regs drop in :p

hehe. Sometimes, the group does seem to be a little put-offing. You have to elbow your way around sometimes.

If everyone agreed with me, I'd get bored and move somewhere else.

a) If you're posting on the BOI, post what you know and can show is the truth. If people bad mouth you, show that they are badmouthing the truth.

b) How are you going to be one of the popular people by being quiet? IMO, no opinion is worth a big stinky pile of dung. There are plenty of opinions I wouldn't trade a pile of dung for. If you know what you're doing is right, or that it is working for you, it's worth way more than that. There is NOT one way to care for any one species of animal. Ask 9 successful people and you'll get at least 5 different answers.

Be loud, be proud! Do what you can, and to the best you can at it. Many of these people that get beat up are people that buy a burm without knowing that it will get 14' or that are trying to sell it for the same reason (just an example, there are a million other ways to be irresponsible).

I lurk because many of the members keep species that I don't, and I just don't have much to say. There's definitely the "good ol' boy" factor working there too. I've tried a few times to hang around the chat room in an attempt to get to know people, but I rarely have anything to add to the conversations.

I feel like I can't play with the big boys and girls, so i'll just hang out on top of the monkey bars where they can't see me.
You want proof? I volunteer at an animal shelter and received a debilitating leg-bite from the most vicious dog I have ever seen - a 200lb. caucasian ovcharka. YET, I am still scared of being bitten by my ball-python, which doesn't even know I exist.
Point-taken?

I was very active on other forums. Left them all with no intension to return. Hated the clan like tudes. Just joined this one. Lookin for a place to share pics of mine and check out other folks animals. No BS please. Don't care what took place elsewhere.

I was another that voted I post all the time... Harald should have made an option for those of us whose lives suck and can only post when they have internet access. We're very active when we get the chance.

Fauna is a community. Just like every community ther will be people you like, people you don't, those that intimidate you and those that are intimidated by you. Don't forget that these are all the other "freaky snake people" out there and you share common ground, if not the same opinions.

The reason we have the "good old boy" thing going is that we post and get to know eachother. If you feel left out (and I did at first, also I'm gonna tread very carefully here as not to be rude) it could be that you have preconcieved notions that we all have always known eachother and that you wouldn't fit in. If that's what you expect, that's what you'll get. Remember this:

Expectations are pre-meditated resentments.

We haven't all always gotten along and most of us met here on this forum.

I'm now doing some weird gushy rambling thing...
Shutting up in 5 4 3 2 1
