In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Avangel Reptiles- parasitic reptiles, and more

Got this email this morning... there was a gofundme setup to purchase all of the geckos chaz has by Emily. It received $805 so I'm not sure why he's sending out emails to everyone trying to sell them if the money was already raised to buy them from him.

Has Chaz really been breeding leopard geckos for 18 years? I remember him when I was starting out, but didn't think he was that experienced then. Maybe I'm wrong, but that is weird considering his age and how long people have been breeding them. Not many people have been around for 10 years, let alone 18.

While I don't agree with giving Chaz any money, I do hope that the animals are taken care of and rehomed to good people. However I did not help out with the fundraising because buying animals from people just helps them out. I care about all animals, but I don't know that I consider it a rescue. That's just my opinion though and I want the animals somewhere safe. I wish the buyer the best of luck with them. I would also recommend quarantine for 6 months, fecals done, and crypto tests on all of them before they go to new homes.

Since the remaining geckos have been received, do we know if Chaz is all sold out of leopard geckos now? How do the final ones look?

Not sure if it was mentioned, but I fully believe these geckos should be adopted out as pet only and not bred. First, we do not know if there are any long term health issues. Second, I would not trust Chaz's genetics at this point. Also, since money was raised to rescue them, they should be treated as that. Rescues.

I am of a similar opinion.

It is believed all the leopard geckos have been taken from him. Despite the email, if you email back and ask him, he will say he has no more.

I hope that's the case. I would still make sure people are double checking who they are buying from. I worry that he still held some back to try to get back into breeding when this all dies down. I find it odd that he would still sell a multivitamin for leopard geckos without owning any.

Truth be told, there is often greater margin or little in the way of upkeep-type costs for a small-time dry goods operation. I have considered making a superior tortoise food pellet formulation for just such a reason (but without shedding my collection).

I hold no love in my heart for this bathtub product, but I think the above is why one would continue to sell dry goods despite shedding a collection. Dry goods do not require heating, feeding, watering, or cleaning. They hold their composition relatively well in reasonable conditions. They lend themselves better to "creative marketing" practices like pseudoscientifc bs for personalities so inclined to employ such tactics.

I can understand that, but from what I understood, he sold it mostly to gecko customers. He would give a sample and try to get those buyers to buy more for those geckos. I could be wrong, but I guess he's done all his "testing" and won't need the actual geckos anymore.

I think, for some, that is the bridge. It is easier to create a mental association that way. Unfortunately for him, his poor husbandry practices and inappropriate customer advances have exposed -and have now been associated with- a shoddy supplemental product with specious claims surrounding/promoting it. He is killing his own brand.

He is constantly adjusting his formulation of the supplement as well as trying to make new ones so I don't see how he would know his new formula works without geckos to try it out on. Since the last time I checked his site he has 2 new supplements, one for reptiles and one for roaches/feeders. If he changes it each batch how will he even know it's safe if he doesn't test it out? I don't see many people buying it after this thread and all the posts on Facebook, I'm hoping he just gives up once he realizes no one is going to buy his crud. His site still has one gecko for sale, an aliss, the line he "created". Personally I agree with Kristi, I think he kept some of the geckos, the geckos emily got appear to be mostly this year's hatchlings. I have a feeling he kept some adults to breed and try to sell when he thinks this has all blown over, and to test his new supplement formulations out on. I also agree with Kristi that all of the geckos rescued from him should be considered pet only, the genetic info should be tossed and they should be treated as rescues/pet only and never bred. I wouldn't trust any gecko that came from him and would not use them in any of my breeding projects.
Is there any update on the criminal investigation and the charges animal control was supposed to charge him with? Since all/most of the geckos are out of his possession I'm doubtful they will actually have enough evidence to actually charge him with anything.

I do not believe there is or was any actual testing of any kind taking place at the level of the animals. Not for safety. Not for efficacy. That, to me, was just a line of...something. ;)

He claims he was testing it and even sent a sample to the FDA to be tested but who knows if that was true. I wonder if he even feeds that garbage to his geckos.
It does look like a normal, I believe his claim was to breed snows with more yellow, I could be wrong about that. I'd have to go back and read the post about it. Knowing chaz it probably is a normal that he slapped a different name on to charge a fortune for. I believe his reasoning is, why sell a normal for $20 when I can give it a fancy name and claim its a new line and charge $200 for it.

Why does the aliss gecko look like a normal to me?

I believe he claimed it to be a new line of snows or something like that, but most people told him it wasn't what he was claiming and he never fully explained it. I know if you search the leopard gecko genetics group on facebook, there is a post there. Possibly on geckoforums, too. He's been asked about it a lot.

Hey is there an update to this story or any news as to whether the bad breeder was caught selling again or not, and if there was a police report/arrest considering animal abuse is now a federal crime. http://barkpost.com/animal-cruelty-felony/
This particular case appalls me and i want to do a story on this in an external website because this particular breeder seems to have failed to disclose the status of all the geckos involved in his abusive operation and I worry it continues to this day.

It's pretty much been closed since the last geckos were retrieved. I'm not aware of the rest as only a few people were involved with the last few. I haven't personally seen any updates on the geckos. To my knowledge he is out of the business.

Ok, by the way i meant to say it is a felony by federal law.

I don't mean to seem like i am instigating, i just don't know if anyone contacted the police about this considering geckos had been left in terrible neglect for over a month, some fed to cockroaches and many other horrors that definitely in my eyes should have ended in an arrest.

This was more of a get the geckos out situation. If we would have sent it to the police before we intervened, the geckos most likely would have been killed or sent to worse conditions. There wasn't much physical evidence, just photo afterwards so it would have been an iffy case. But like I said, I'm not 100% aware what happened including the police.

Of course I understand what actions were taken to rescue the geckos that could be rescued and the problem with involving authorities early on. I just meant that it seems clear the adults and many other geckos are still in his possession and contacting the police after the rescues of what he was willing to give away. The authorities still would have the evidence of that testimony from woman who went to chaz's apartment and who witnessed the abuse stated in this thread. But thanks for the fast response and i think the chance of preventing this breeder from doing it all over again and that the geckos are worse living under the conditions that Chaz puts them in than alive makes contacting the police worth it now for those involved.
