The following photos were taken at Red Deer Reptiles on November 9, 2008. Unfortunately, my phone did not take clear pictures, but they are clear enough that you can get an idea as to how poor the conditions were:
A kingsnake with no water and a
filthy enclosure:
Another kingsnake that appears
extremely malnourished:
A rainbow boa in a completely dry enclosure with a bone dry water dish:
A bearded dragon (which was in pretty rough shape, although I couldn't get a clear shot of it) soaking in its waterdish with
filthy water:
A poor shot of a Kenyan Sand Boa that is strongly suspected to be dead. We watched it for about 5 minutes and never once saw it take a breath. Numerous attempts to 'prevoke' it into moving even a little bit were unsuccessful:
Pictures that didn't come out as clear included shots of Amazon Tree Boas either resting on the bottom of the cage as a result of not having pearches or soaking in a waterdish, and several enclosures infested with mites.
The majority of the reptiles in the store were soaking in their waterdishes, which contained disgusting water. Scorpions that were labelled as "Lethal" were kept in containers that were within reach of small children.
I saw heat tape underneath several enclosures; however, all of the heat tape I touched was cool and it did not appear to be turned on.
Dan presented as quite rude to myself and the friends I was with. Once we left the store, he showed us a photo of us that was on a piece of paper that said "ENIMY" at the top.
After locking the door to his store, he displayed his middle finger to a friend of mine. We never really said anything to him and we certainly weren't disrespectful. His behaviour toward my friend was completely unprevoked.
It appears as though Dan has not taken any steps to improve his store to date.
