It seems pretty clear from my point of view. I don't know anybody in this topic, but from what I can see many people's personal feelings are coming into play.
Experiences. Not feelings. There is a very distinct difference.
Jim Scharphorn has a history. He's been caught lying on these boards when he thought it was to his own advantage, he was banned in the past and is only here presently because a reset of the warning system removed his "Suspended and Fine Due" status.
The emails clearly show the man is owned a snake, and has yet to receive it.
The question of WHY he has yet to receive it is an important one, since he's calling Evan a bad guy and claiming Evan is at fault.
And that... is something Jim has not addressed, his original post and all the subsequent, redundant emails omitted the information that would be necessary to determine fault. He left a very small trail of breadcrumbs in the extended email post but they're disjointed and unclear.
What was the original deal? Jim's sent ______ in exchange for _______? Did he trade his own animals for something that Evan hadn't hatched yet? Did he request something Evan didn't have at the time? It seems like this might be the case since there was one disconnected-from-anything-else email where Evan mentioned that he'd need to go find the male snake Jim wanted. Fault for the delay- quite possibly Jim's, if he requested something Evan didn't have or was wanting something Evan had not yet hatched.
The tumor that Evan reported and Jim ignored, where does that come into play? Again, Jim hasn't posted a damn thing that actually gets to the meat of this transaction, we have no idea how many of what were to be exchanged for how many of something else but sending an animal with a tumor which he then forgets about even though he had previously acknowledged it HAS to do something to the relative values of the animals being traded. This is again on Jim's shoulders, since it's clear Evan reported the issue at the time of the original shipment and Jim then ignored it.
There were some hints around the edges and in Evan's emails- although again, Jim didn't post a clear cut email chain and a lot are taken out of context- that there was a delay in shipping at
Jim's request. That one of the animals which Jim wanted was not a strong feeder and that Jim and Evan had, at some point in the past where Jim's period of amnesia extends to, wanted it to stay with Evan until it was a better feeder. 'cause Evan is competent enough to deal with a picky feeder where Jim would end up starving it through ham handed ineptitude. Given that we still don't know the nature of the original deal and if Jim was trading for snakes that were already hatched and already in Evan's possession, this may again be on Jim's shoulders. Jim seems to have either traded for an unknown or traded for an animal with a slow feeding response and then requested that Evan work on it for him.
Additionally, how is Evan supposed to ship without an address? Evan asked for Jim's location, Jim named a town. Unless Jim is the sole resident of that town and the shipping companies are aware of that, this is utterly useless. Jim had then started getting uppity in the email exchange well before he gave his full address. And given the hints that are present about why the shipment had been delayed so long... and my suspicion that it was Jim's fault to begin with... his attitude and combative, demanding nature are just about guaranteed to leave the other person disinclined to go out of their way to help him out.
Not trying to take anyone's sides as I said I don't know anybody here. Just seems individual's personal "agendas" or opinions from previous situations are clouding this one.
Of course opinions from previous situations will come into play. These are called "experiences" and they help us learn. If they were suddenly removed, the entire species would be extinct within days as we burnt ourselves to death on our own stoves.
It's certainly not a personal agenda. Evan isn't the most well liked of people; he's conceited and he's condescending and he's argumentative- which rubs all the other conceited, condescending, argumentative people the wrong way. He might be a loudmouthed, hot-headed braggart who's entire attitude would probably be improved by a good punch in the mouth... but he's not a thief or a liar. He's not stealing snakes from Jim and he's not trying to pull one over.
Jim on the other hand IS a liar. He can't be believed any further than he can be thrown, he's got a history of telling half-truths and whole fabrications if he thinks they'll further whatever his goals are. He's basically a scumbag.
So people are going to use their
experiences as a filter and believe the jackass over the liar.
